The summer heat is upon us. It's time to do another hot weather riding demo at Cycle Gear on Pecos. It will be Sunday July 12th from 10am to 2pm. Any help is always appreciated.

Flyer to come.

OK so I need people to hand out flyers this week. I gave out stacks to several of you, so please distribute them at whatever motorcycle events you attend. I leave for LA tomorrow and will not be back till Friday night. I can use the help.

Also, I need volunteers to help with the following:

Setup/Strike
Raffle sales
cashier
help with food
help with demos

Setup is at 10 am on Sunday

Thanks guys

I have one of those big tubs to throw ice/drinks in.
Someone would need to pick it up at my place though.

Sooo...

With all the MC fatalities and thefts going on, perhaps it would be a good idea to have a segment on the MARS event to remind people about this and show/explain different options for security (alarms, lo-jack, disc locks, chains, common sense, etc...), and keep reminding peeps about MSF courses, Lee parks courses, etc...

And, perhaps we should have a sticky somewhere on our board that outlines the different MSF, Lee Parks, track, and other courses available, their costs, durations, requirements, requisites, what they're about, websites, contact info, etc...

Sort of like a cheat sheet for MC courses.

???

Perhaps we should also have monthly open practice sessions for slow speed maneuvers...parking lot style stuff. Emergency braking, swerving, etc... MSF + Lee Parks stuff.

As far as the MSF courses locally............The College of Southern Nevada offers the course at three different campuses: Charleston, Cheyenne and Henderson.

The Basic Rider's Course - designed for rider's with no or little riding experience, but rider's with lots of riding experiences take the course too. It cost $100 and it's 2 1/2 days. You ride the training bikes that are provided by the state, it's small, light weight and easy to ride. A successful completion of this course, passing both the written and skills evaluation test you will be given a MSF Completion card in which you can submit to the DMV and automatically get your motorcycle endorsement without any further testing. It's essentially a pass card. In addition, the card is honored by many insurance companies, that offer 10-20% discount since you took a motorcycle safety course.

The Experienced Rider's Course is designed for rider's who have riding expereince, and you use your own motorcycle. For example, riders' who have moved from another state who had a motorcycle endorsement, but is not honored by the Nevada DMV. It's a one day class and cost $60. It's usually offered only at the Charleston Campus. Samething as the BRC, a successful completion of this course, you get a completion card which allows you to automatically get your motorcycle endorsement at the DMV.

The Harley Dealership offers the BRC as well, but they charge $350, and it's 3 1/2 days.

Just go to the College of Southern Nevada website and type in motorcycle under the search tab, and you can register online.

See you there.

BTW, one of the prizes is a huge poker set. The box weights about 15lbs...NICE!

Here is a slide show from the MARS event we had this Sunday at Cycle Gear on Pecos. We talked about how to stay cool in the heat. It was 110 degrees...how appropriate!
