I will be riding too regardless as my bike is my only mode of reliable trans. I figured no one would want to risk riding out to get food if it is pouring and possible chance of flash floods, but hey, I will post up a location tomorrow morning, I guess I will see you all there?!

haha yeah.

I can tell you right now. After viewing 10+ accidents.

A flash flood at every turn. Placing my foot into a puddle instead of the ground at EVERY LIGHT.

Every single piece of clothing i had on was soaked Including the inside of my helmet

Shoes soaked.

Jacket soaked

And this was just the 15 min ride home from work

So everyone RIDING out to TWT. I wouldnt recommend it.

But hey, HAVE FUN!!!!! My ass is staying inside. Unless you want to risk your life on these streets right now for some tacos?

GO FOR IT@!!!!!!

I am in. Of course, I am driving an SUV with all wheel drive and stability and traction control. The bike stays in the garage. There is some flooding going on right now. It's minor, but enough were I don't feel like riding.

Minor rain, thats funny. Id love to see you saying minor when every time you are at a light and your knee cap is up to it in water.

SUVs, TRUCKS, flying down the right lane splashing water all over you and inside you. Sure. Tis but a sprinkle out there....

No i just rode home from where you are. And minor is not what i would call it. But thanks i am currently drying my gear so that i can ride to work in the morning...

And rain gear would be good except it rains in vegas, 4 times in 3 years.

And i have far better things to save up for like some actual leathers... and maybe a working car.

But have fun, im going to stay in and try to not catch pneumonia.

Did i mention its 46 degress? and i was sopping wet for 15+ minutes?

Since my schedule has changed, I can't make it to TWT for a while.

But as far as the rain, I actually enjoy riding in the rain. It's a nice change from the dry weather. As long as you have rain gear on, you can stay dry. It doesn't have to be motorcycle specfic rain gear either, you can pick up a rain suit at Dicks, Sport Chalet or Bass Pro Shop for under $50.

rain gear will keep water from going into and up your leg when having to place it in 2-3 feet of water?

or would that be a combo of rain gear/water protective boots?

And riding in the rain can be enjoyable.

When its not 46degrees out side.

Having proper water PROOF gear.

Not on vegas streets

And not having to deal with flash floods.

And perhaps maybe not having to ride on vegas streets with every other moron in a car sliding through turns, braking late. Gee.. just seems......not ...that....enjoyable?

To be honest, i think its completely moronic, and idiotic to RIDE ON VEGAS streets, with flash floods, rain and our drivers in this weather. The HUGE decrease in traction, increase of oil, and shit all over the roads? Seems like a no brainer to keep the bike in.

There is a diff between riding in a sprinkle and a fucking flash flood.

Hence why i wanted to postpone this twt. =]

Those look good if you are going to get water thrown at you.

But not so much if you are fully immersed in it, say from 100 gallon splash of water by a 60mph truck. Or Putting your leg down at a light and having the water pretty much up to your knee for 5+ minutes as you wait for the fucking retards in the cage infront of you to decide if they need to make a left or if they want to just stay in the middle lane till a spot opens up in the turn lane so they can squeeze in. ALl while the light is green for traffic.

Nope not jaded. Just cold. And wet.

My violin is here somewhere, now where is it?

Seriously, 46 degrees? I'm sure you've ridden in much colder temps than this. It can easily be countered by getting some good gear that will keep you warm.

Rain gear is usually waterproof, at least the good ones.

But agreed, when the weather is bad, the risk level increases vs ideal riding conditions. Obviously, you have to adapt to riding in adverse conditions. Riding the sameway you do when it's dry in the rain is a recipe for disaster. My biggest complaint is that it becomes very difficult to see if you're caught behind the wash. Therefore, I make it a point that I try to stay in front of the pack, or fall way behind. If that means filtering up to the front during red lights, I'll do it.

Ironically, the MSF classes are taught even if it's raining. It's a bonus in my opinion. They get the experience of riding in the rain. It reinforces that you have to have the proper gear for all ocassions.

I rode home the day it snowed all day long last year. In a perforated jacket, and my summer gloves and a turtle neck. I even have a photo to prove. I could give a fuck less if its cold, and or wet. But would I CHOOSE to ride in it ifi had another option? Fuck no. I am smarter then that. Especially on VEGAS STREETS. And when Im standing in a puddle at a stop light. Helmet fogging, Drivers not paying attention on slippery roads, mixed with the loss of stopping and traction with the bike. IM pretty sure its safe to say that I, you should not be on a motorcycle for a nice little ride to get some tacos.

As far as MSF goes..

MSF is a controlled environment.

Are las vegas streets controlled? Shit if they were id love to ride around all day in the rain, snow. Sure riding in the rain can help improve your skills, in a CONTROLLED environment. Who the fuck says, lets go practice rain riding on vegas streets. Maybe thats why some people crash? I have no clue?

Fact of the matter is it is pretty stupid to ride on las vegas roads in weather like this. Regardless of your gear. Plain and simple. Maybe this headstate is a reason why i havent crashed in 6 years, but yet, ride every single day of the year. Minus a day or two on the weekend if i stay in.

If the weather cleared up by 7, great, my soaked gear and shoes and helmet were not going to get me very far. And i doubt that "proper rain gear" would have done much to keep dry on a ride home like tonight. Unless you know of some rain gear that can surround my feet to top of my head in a water tight coating. And doesnt cost a grand. Dont forget to justify the purchase for the other 360 days a year, it doesnt rain.

Say Arson,

Just saying that if you dress for the conditions, you wouldn't be bitching so much. Who in their right mind would be riding in a perforated jacket and summer gloves in the winter, when it's 30 - 40 degrees out. When your bike is your only ride, you have to be prepared for all types of weather, including the rain. You should have an assortment of gear. You're an expereinced rider, you have the knowledge and abilities to ride in these conditions if you choose to do so. But if you're cold and wet because you don't have the right riding gear on, you're getting distracted which means that the Morons your trying to avoid, may get you during these times.

Remember, you want to be focusing your attention to the ride, not yourself because your cold and wet.

I know what you went thru, as I have gone thru the same thing. You have to be very careful to position yourself, or at least be prepared to get( like you said), about a 100 gallons of water splashed onto you by passing vehicles whenever you see water that has been accumulated. Every intersections turns into a miniature lake, and if you're spacing with other vehicles is not appropriate, another 100 gallons will be heading your way.

Hellooo, you are talkin to me here. =D

The day was gorgeous, as the tneck was enough in the morning, until the snow started. I have no problem riding in these conditions but do not support nor condone it unless YOU HAVE TO. I am not bitching as much as i was venting earlier because of the fucking moronic drivers i had to deal with on the way home mixed with being cold and wet. But like I said, how much water was thrown at me mixed with standing in feet of water. I dont think any rain suit, shit even iron mans suit could have protected me.

And it was def not worth going back out to grab some tacos for. Which was the point somewhere mixed between my whining.

Definately not worth riding for some two dollar tacos.

I heard the weather was going to be rainy this week, so I kept my rain gear with me for this week. Didn't need it on the way in this morning, but at least I have it if I need it.

Check out Brass Pro Shops over at the Silverton in the Marine Section. Great rain/marine gear. Like someone said, gators for the boots, rubber band your rain gear around every opening, wrist, waist, legs, etc. Even try wearing rubber/latex gloves underneath your riding gloves if they aren't waterproof.

Okay, I'm heading out for my 20 minute commute back home. My luck probably stopped raining as I was looking forward to the rain.
