I have recently been told that in the newer Yamaha models that they put the fuel pump in the tank of the fuel injected models... Thus making the "Actual" number of gallons the tank will hold differ from what the specs say. Anyone know if this is true? Thanks. | |

Most modern bikes have the pump in the tank, but the capacities are measured with the pump in. I don't know about the other brands but the kawi have the whole pump in the tank to make the fuel in the pump cooler by being furthur from the engine heat. the pumps used to be half in half out.

BMW does it as well and has for years. Helps keep the pump cool and hopefully extend the life of it. Don't know about the fuel capacity. Havn't run it dry to find out.

| Guest Posts: n/a | Quote: MPG has nothing to do with the size of your tank.. Here's how to figure out your MPG, on a full tank reset you odometer, drive till you get gas, take your odometer and divide your actual miles driven by how much gas your bike took. Example, you drove 130 miles and your bike took 4.5 gallons. Your MPG would be 130/4.5 = 28.888889, which just happens to be shitty for a bike.. |

in his other post he's having major problems with both MPG and the actual capacity of his tank. It's weird.

| Quote: It's a good day when I can get 35mpg mostly it's around 30mpg. That's no hot rodding, all freeway. I have tried everything. I even called Dyno Jet to see if the power commander could be causing this but they told me it would be nothing that drastic but the PC will cause a little more gas consumption. I even tried trimming the cylinders as they requested... Still, nothing. There has to be something somewhere that is not right on this bike. | |

You could try unplugging the PC and use the stock ECU for a tank or two. But as for the tank volume issue, you got me stumped bro.

check your fuel pressure regulator they do go bad and up the fuel pressure and make you use more fuel unknowingly
