What they don't mention is the increased cost to drivers in tickets and the increased cost of law enforcement adding extra shifts/gas to patrol and enforce such a measure. All in all, it is just a ploy by a poliutician to get his name in the paper.

one thing I don't get is...

if we are so short on oil, why do we still continue to export what we have? Why are they not pursuing more alternatives like that compressed air car.

One thing to keep in mind, not to get political here...

But big oil is a business... CEO's and Stockholders need to get paid. Do you think any of them are going to want to get less money from what they are getting now? Would you?

Unless we create more competition where there are alternatives to gas powered vehicles, even hybrids use gas... then prices will never come down. However, if people have an alternative to gas, they would NEED to lower prices to compete.

+1. I couldn't agree more. We have the technology to sustain, so lets evolve!

The feds are too chickenshit to raise taxes outright because they'd take a beating in the press, so they do this crap to generate more revenue, under the guise of improved safety and environment.

Some cities in Georgia are adding an extra fee to a ticket for any moving violation. I believe they call it a gas penalty fee to pay for the higher gas prices the cop dept.s are paying.

Where I agree with that statement, the only bad thing is that to consumer is the one that will suffer until this actually happens. The more gas goes up, the more everything else will go up as well.....

Everything except salaries.

Its the only sacrifice worth making becuase it is the only one that will bring true long term change, not short term stop-gap/band-aid relief.

In turn everything else will balance itself out, but this hurdle needs to be crossed.

but just because that's the way it's always been does not make it right. The common citizen should not be made to suffer and pay for government and corporate mistakes... but we are a lazy society and do nothing to change it. We sit back and take it in the rear and hope someone else will fix it for us.

The technology is there, it's just not being used to appease the big oil companies until they can figure out how to profit from it. Once they figure that out... things will change.

But until then, we will all suffer the high price of gas and everything related to gas... including all the other products that will go up because of shipping.

On the bright side, if companies can no longer afford to ship items over seas, maybe it will bring some of our jobs home.

All I know is that with everything else going up, people are not spending like they use to... I am facing looking for a job.... sales have been almost nothing lately. Anyone hiring?

eh fuck it. I say if you cant afford the gas prices, change to a higher paying job or get a job closer to home. Things will change if you want them to or not. In order to combat that, you have to change, not the government.

I am not arguing that this is right or wrong.
Never said it was either. Just said that is how it has been, and most likely will be. Its human nature coupled with situational experiences that determine how the majority will act in any given society.

I don't think the technology is there yet. I think the talent is there to come up with solutions, but not enough incentive yet.
Oil is still the cheapest, most convenient, and packs the most energy-per-unit of any other energy method. Until that changes, no realistically viable alternative will emerge.

Anything good comes at a price.
This is the price we shall pay to move past this stage in our energy evolution.
Anything that would artificially lower back the price of oil will simply delay the inevitable. But it will not avoid it.

Everything will sort itself out in the end. There will be casualties, as usual and as expected. But all these things are part of the change, and necessary for real change to happen.

You are still the minority, and people spending less are also the minority.
When that changes, the energy issues will change.

Like I said before:

Supply & demand

When the cost of oil approaches the cost of alternative energy options, REAL alternatives will flourish and mature.

Till then, oil will be king.

I will disagree with some of this as we do have the technology to get off oil... bio diesel is the most popular right now.... However there are MANY other ways to make bio diesel other than corn. Why take away from the food supply when you have a resource crop that would be replenished 3 times a year. A crop that would not only provide fuel, but paper, clothing as well...

Yes, that is hemp... not marijuana, but HEMP! I watched a program on the science channel where these guys in an RV were traveling the country using nothing but bio diesel... hemp was one they were running on.

Greed is the main reason we are not getting off oil.... convince is another. Most people are afraid of change or new things... hell, how many wait till the 2nd or 3rd year of a new bike model because you want to wait for the bugs to be worked out.

We have to start thinking long term. There are many other products that rely on crude oil as an ingredient... not just gas. Where we and our children may not be effected by this shortage except for cost, we have to think of the grandchildren, their children and so on. Remember, the children are the future, but it's up to us to make sure they have a future.

Not to be argumentative but the other solutions are there, they do exist and are available. We just need someone in office that does not have ties to big oil to help push it through. As long as we have politicians in bed with big oil, it will never happen till it's gone then it's too late.

Just wait till the election is over, prices will continue to rise... they have leveled because of the election... as they always do in a political year. It's happened in the past, it will continue to happen in the future.

So sad.... Corporate greed is ruining this once great nation.... we are becoming nothing more than a 3rd world country. Pretty soon it will be China with the high end cars and us on bicycles and mass transit. Don't believe me... open your eyes, it's already started.

Have you looked through you local want ads lately? Last sunday's was a whopping 4 pages. This section use to be a small newspaper.

Fact is, there are no good high paying jobs out there. Least not in Phoenix. Not like I can just sell my house and move to where the jobs are... not in this market. Wouldn't get shit for my house right now.

At least I know I am doing my part to help fight this.... Sold the jeep bought a bike, I work from home and really don't go anywhere except the store. Fuck big oil... I ain't giving them any more than I have to.

Now if I can just give up smoking and give big tobacco the big fuck off as well. Well, ok, a big fuck off to the state of arizona and their high tobacco tax.

Americans have become brainwashed by our own education system. You have to go to college and get a degree, so you can get a good paying job.

I dropped out of highscool in the 10th grade, and never went to college. I dont have a degree in anything. Since I got out of the army 11 years ago, I've been self employed. No it wasnt anything I learned in the army, its stuff I learned from books I bought at Barnes & Noble and read on the internet. And since that time, last year was my worst year. I only made $170,000. Who's fault? All mine... I let alot of shit that happened last year affect me on personal levels and it got in my way. I got soft. Well fuck that shit... its all back on track.

Now if I can do it, I'm sure most everyone else could. I'm not a genius. I'm pretty lazy in alot of ways. Only thing I really do is find a direction and focus on it. You dont have to do the same thing, there are lots of things to do. You just have to do something. Am I supposed to believe that I'm smarter than those with college degrees? I dont think so... because I dont have a piece of paper that says so.

You're not limited by how much money you can make by the help wanted section in the newspaper, you're limited by your own self-imposed limitations.

Alot of people, I would even say most people, get caught up in the 9-5 syndrome. "My work schedule is from 9-5 so thats when I work". Um... thats when your day job is, thats NOT the only time you can work. Again, thats a self-imposed limitation. "I only make $XX per hour". Once again, thats only if you choose to. Lots of ways to build more income that works for you even while you're asleep. Especially since the internet was invented.

I think you are missing some of my points.

New energy methods will not become popular until another energy method is:

A- Convenient to produce, distribute, and use.
B- Packs enough energy per-unit to compete with oil products
C- It's pricing is competitive with existing technologies.


Bio diesel is nice, but even if it where to replace the current Diesel available everywhere, its market will still be limited to pretty much the same market current Diesel covers.

Yes, that is neat, in a geeky kind of way.
I do watch and enjoy those programs.

But none of that is gonna fly for mass market. It still fails some of the points I made above.

And I dont think most people are afraid of change.
They simply take the path of lest resistance...oil.
And in this regard, I think most people would be willing to change to something else as long as it is still convenient for them.

Its easier to get a regular gasoline vehicle as that fuel is available everywhere, and at a pretty good price. Those vehicles perform at the level we are used to as well.


I dont know where you live, but I have not seen gas level off in years.
Its constantly going up. Even if just by a little bit at times.

But, like I said before, I do hope it keeps going up.
Its the only thing that will stimulate a REAL change in things.

Companies exist to make money. And the need to make that money is what will bring us real alternatives for energy. But only when oil is no longer the better option and more money is thrown at really solving all the issues with current energy alternatives. They still need a lot of work to be viable.

And, this is just a hurdle we will cross at some point.
When we do, it will be much better. Until then, it will seem like we are heading backwards, but that is just a temporary and necessary evil to promote the needed change.

Its evolution. A deficiency is there long enough for the organism to overcome it somehow. But until then, it will suffer from it.

I totally agree about the school thing.... nothing against them, but the courses get shorter and the price keeps climbing.

Christ, I was checking out the Art Institute at one point thinking a degree would help.... they wanted 24k for the course. I got a chance to talk to the instructor of the class, I knew more than he did... so why would I pay 24k for a piece of paper?

I am 100% self taught. Started back in 92 and have been on my own since 97. I did real well until the dot com bust... been struggling ever since. Web design is out, I cannot compete with the people in India creating sites for 5.00 a page. Christ, I was getting 75.00 an hour at one point, now i feel lucky to get 20.

Tried porn, didn't like it.... (got some content if you know anyone that wants it ).... I ended up going strictly software.... but sales suck lately... I use to make a grand a month off my software, dropped to 200 a mo. a while back, these days, I have not had a sale in over a month. Even got a premium listing on one of the bigger software sites that send me a lot of traffic, even that hasn't helped.

Not sure what else I can do without starting all over again. Pretty good with a camera, thinking of shooting weddings... Wow, talk about fun eh?

I agree though, working for yourself has benefits, but it also has drawbacks... I miss a steady income, I miss health insurance, I miss knowing that when I wake up I have something to do.

Thought things were turning around there for a bit, had a bit of work come in, was able to catch up on a couple of bills which was nice, but it's slow again.

So if not the local paper, monster, where are these high paying jobs? Christ, where are any jobs? I would even take something part time at starbucks but even they are closing stores because of the shitty economy. It's rough out there right now... we have a lot of businesses laying off here, causing less jobs and more people out of work fighting for the ones that are around.

That's the part I didn't like. Too much sick shit out there.... It's real hard to design something when you are not into the subject matter. Unless it was a GG or solo site, I just couldn't do it.

It was fun when I was shooting, but I can't do that since my GF went back into teaching. I can just see the local headlines when the feds come knocking my door...

I do like video editing, use to do a shit load of it for 702Cash. But that is another story for another day. LOL.

I'm sure something will come around, it usually dose... I'm just too impatient to wait.
