Very hot.

Ok, better answer I guess...

Read your manual.
It should tell you the temperature at which it is considered overheating.

The fan should turn on around 212-220 (depends on manuf./model).
And, usually the overheat condition does not trigger until about 248.

I think the thermostat on the coolant line opens up around 185 degrees on newer bikes.

Dont be scared if you see 225 on your temp reading.
Specially if in stop/go/slow traffic, or if your riding hard in twisties where you go open throttle for short bursts, but no long stretches of steady speed where it has a chance to cool down from the airflow.

My fan kicks in at 224. I've never seen it go past 226 yet.

On the TLR, Hot V twin the fans kick in at 220, I've got that engine ice in there keeps temps down a lot! Bike runs at 183-184 on the highway, around 200 or less in town, when I'm doing a lot of stop and go temps get around 210 or so

It shouldn't go over 240. If it does, you gotz something wrong.

dont worry too much about it. whenit starts blinking and the red light turns on, pull to the side of the road. shut the kil switch off then right back on so the fan keeps going. give it a few minutes to cool down. if you take the 15 in rush hour i would suggest taking a different route using the surface streets.

I just wanted to post what it was doing today. Tyt chart is funny. I don't understand it. Fyi- I shift at 3rpm and cruise in 6th gear to conserve gas. Can this lead to over heat

No, unless you are lugging the engine, but even then, if your bike is operating correctly, it will not overheat.

Why do you think you are overheating ?

Ok, now that could be an issue.
Although, mine has gotten pretty high in the temps, it usually doesnt last long there.

1- Check to make sure your coolant reservoir is between the high and low level marks.
2- Check to make sure the fan is turning on somewhere between 210 and 220 degrees.
3- Your bike is new, right ?

I always wondered if my bike gets too hot. I am air cooled and when I get stuck in traffic I can feel that engine burning my legs from the heat it puts out. I'm told that it's nothing to worry about, but these same people also told me there was no such thing as a tire warranty and that the busa is a 1200. ;)

And the sky is red.

Bullitt, the chart is the boiling point of water depending on how much antifreeze you have mixed in (%) and what pressure cap is on your bike.

Example: If you run a 50% mixture (stock coolant in a normal bike) and have a 15lb cap, you won't boil over until 301 degrees.

And on the left is a chart of when water will freeze with % of antifreeze added.

And here you don't think you have a temp gauge.

My fan kicks on at 222 and I used to ride from D.I. up to the north end of town in stoplight to stoplight conditions. I hit about 245 a few times if I had to sit through more than one cycle of light changes but that's only in the summer months. I was told my bike runs hot in stop and go traffic so I wasn't too worried. I just pulled over, killed the engine, and let the fan run for about 5 minutes and I was good to go
