I'm HORNy...

Seriously though, I think I've only touched my horn maybe twice since riding motorcycles. Fuck the cagers and just ride invisible.

Howie,

Be careful, loud pipes don't do anything for your safety! " That is a squid comment," or so I was told. That such a comment basically indicates that you blindly believe a myth. Which after trying to explain your case you will be DISRESPECTED by someone who doesn't have the guts to say any of that crap to your face!!

YEAH I am still pissed off by some internet warrior who had the balls to disrespect me like that and never apologize and then ignore me in person.

What do we say about "That guy?"

I was going 195 mph in a wheelie when all of a sudden I had to stop, which brought me straight into a 30 mile stoppie. Why did I have to stop you might ask, because I dropped my fuckin horn at mile marker 30...Fuck the damn horn, ride that fuckin bike like you stole it... I love telling stories!!

Oh and PK, Fuck that guy..

quit thread hijacking. On topic please.

How about settling for the fact it's possible to use the horn (if you choose to) while riding evasively. And that sometimes they hear it and sometimes they don't. And that every time they have no clue how close they really came to killing us. Sound fair?

Personally they do hear it sometimes and scoot back over once in a while. I just assume they wont.

I'm noticing it seem like fewer people use the horn on a bike than people who almost never use it . Why do you think that is ?? I know some people use the horn i their cars more than other , i use the horn in the car more than the bike (then again its harder to get away from getting hit in a car vs bike)

Is this something MFS should teach to get new riders acustomed to using it, i for the most part its the last thing on my mind on a bike, nope, most of the time i don't even remember it has a horn. I would bet that those of us who grew up riding dirt are probably in the boat as me, hell you don't have a horn , nor are you going to hit it at the rock/tree that suddenly came out of nowhere. So maybe incorperate it into the swerve part where you drive straight and the tell you to swerve Lt or Rt aat the last second. Maybe us it in a couple other drills, could that possible make safer riders out of all ?? Yes i know rhe answer is subjective, discuss.

Now for the swerve part, i would like to actually find out how much better it would be with and without the horn. It would be cool to perform that just to see if there is a difference in line, sloppyness, speed chanes, just about eveything between the two ways of doing it.

I know for a fact that in a car that 2 hand on the wheel will have more control ( you have to take on off to hit the horn on most cars) how about a bike? No need to remove a hand , the horn is at your thumbtip. Does that actually make it safer for a motorcyclist to use it during accident avoidance vs a car?

Throw your 2 cents out.

I usually move but I do however use it when tourist forget to read or rather just look at the sign DON'T WALK! Or when a car in front of me ( Cali) has a green and won't move. I'm careful and always avoid a fool.

I use my horn all the time. I use it to honk at random people then wave enthusiasticly. Since they can't see my face, they can't tell if they know me or not and generally just wave back.

I don't like to use my horn too much - in bikes or cars. People aren't as predictable when you startle them, making it a little harder to execute an escape plan.

And I rev my bike when I'm in the clear. My horn (if they hear it over my bike) sounds like a little bitch.

Im on the strip by 4 a.m. M-F working at city center. I constantly have to use my horn. Be it some asshat thats fallen asleep at the wheel and at a redlight or the various early morning hookers and drunks stumbling into the streets not looking to see if traffic is comming.

Please do and post what the MSF instructers say about this subject. More info is always good.

Good point, very good point.

Loud pipes also startle people as they go by, nothing major for the rider cause he's already past, but in a group, i've seen it get bad.
