The question was asked if you like your Horn , well how many people actually use it. Mine may get used less than once a year, so pretty much consider it, Never. For the most part i believe using the horn is just being a prick, most of the time if you use your horn, it wasn't needed cause it wasn't even a close call. The last thing in my mind durning an actual close call would be hitting the horn, same goes with driving my car.

Well you've put such a negative spin on horn use, poor, poor horn. There are proper ways to use a horn, such as a short "beep, beep" can mean, I'm coming through, as in parking garage driving. It can also mean, oops!! my bad, I didn't see you. I find the most often expression I use my upgraded dual, hi/lo horn for is what I term as the "fuck you" blast, "HHHHHOOOONNNNNKKKKK!!!!!, HHHHHHOOOOONNNNNKKK!!!!! which is used for those occasions of asshattery cage driving we so often see.

My point exactly, for the most part i watch the road and look ahead where i don't get myself into those situation very often (even in my car) Now i wouldnt mind an auto horn for the times i don't have time to use it cause i'm trying to keep from getting killed.

I've seen many accident where the driver used the horn instead of the steering wheel to try avoid the situation. Horns are almost useless.

What do you do if you're in the leftlane of a 3 lane road, (D.I. arterial over I-15) just entering a blind spot of a car in the middle lane and they start to change into your lane and don't have an escape route? I do beleive that a honk of the horn is more polite than a boot to the door and a mirror slap.

i disagree. a car doesnt just instantly go from one lane to another it takes a couple seconds. that should be more than enough time to get off the throttle and give the car room. i think terrasmaks point is get over this sense of entitlement and just hit the brakes or avoid the situation instead of using that time to hit the horn as if you are the most important person on the road

Seems like I touched a nerve by providing a scenario that you two might not have experienced before, (bumper to bumper rush hour). By the way, it doesn't take much effort to move my thump the 1/2 an inch to my horn, I was blessed with coordination. It doesn't even upset my ability to steer, hit the gas, brakes or any other options that might be available.

As to my sense of entitlement, yes I am entitled to not get smashed by some knucklehead without the incredible coordination that is needed to use a blinker, look over their shoulder, while eatin a Big Mac and yapping on a cell phone.

I ride everyday. My bike is my primary transportation. I ride through traffic pretty much 6 out of 7 of those days. I absolutely need and use my horn in most situations where a car starts easing over into my lane. He has no right to it and needs to know i'm there. Most time just simply decelerating isn't an option due to cars trying to run me over from behind. That, and i want to make sure he knows what the f he just did. Most times it's a quick double tap and they jerk back over and apologize. Then the asshats that keep coming over get the long one along with the bird. That's about it till one of these fuckers actually hits me. Regardless of consequences if he hits me and i'm able i'm pulling his ass out and beating him. Simple.

but thats the exact attitude that gets people killed every single day on bikes!

rather than a beep on the horn, long or short doesnt matter, i much rather just move out of the way. when i say move out of the ,i dont care if its decelerating or moving into the emergency lane, both, what ever...im just getting out of the way in a calm manner. no panic stops, oh shit swerves... nothing. who the hell am i to teach them a lesson. i just want ot keep the rubberside down and make it home to my family friends.

if people would stop thinking in suck an offensive manner less moto riders would be getting killed. 99.9% of all collisions on the street could have been avoided if they would start being more defensive drivers instead of using their horns and start worrying about getting out the way first.

believe ive been there. you arent the only one here that has ever been on a bike just so you know. for 2 years i did nothing but ride. i sold my truck and had my r1 thats the only thing i used to get from point a to point b. in all that time riding, well over 30,000miles on the streets of vegas, i never had a close call because i worried about me instead of worrying about giving them horn and teaching hte some kind of lesson.

I do use the horn on the bikes.
It does come in handy sometimes.

But, it definitely does not replace defensive riding.

careful responding here guys, certain people posting are perfect riders that were born on motorcycles, know everything there is about operating a motorcycle, and exactly what your capabilities and skills are.

to add your 2 cents could lead to someone disrespecting you, which I find totally unacceptable. Go internet warriors.

Lighten up Francis, you're the one acting like the sudo expert. The horn is a piece of equipment, I use it, you don't. Big Deal. I'll get you some ear plugs so you don't have to hear them thar mean ole horns. Also, I was riding motorcycles before you were an itch in your daddy's pants and I can pee longer and farther than you too

thats rich. while you are being a douchebag i am actually hoping people might ride a bit safer and we wont have to lose anyone that is a part of this family we call scs. i dont care if you have been doing something for 50 years, it doesnt mean you are doing it right. so if you dont like what i have to say or give a crap about being as safe as you can, then maybe this isnt the right moto group for you. or maybe i am in the wrong for wanting some moto buddies to be safe.

Now it's name calling, since someone has a different opinion than you and is trying to help you untie that knot in your panties with a little levity? So sorry that your feelings are hurt, I'll throw my horn away in your honor and declare you the safety expert.

i wasnt name calling i was using the word douchebag as an adjective. if i said hey douchebag that would be name calling. i could care less if you have a different opinion than me. i dont really need you to untie that knot because i will gladly admit to having a knot in my panties when it comes to safety. ive already lost one good friend from this club and i hope to not lose anymore. for somebody so "old", you sure havent learn that there is nothing wrong with some free advise. or perhaps you are just one of those people who doesnt like to admit when they might just be wrong. who knows you could be right. maybe it is better to just lay on the horn instead of just getting out of the way...i'll watch the obituaries and see.

I think it is a riders responsibility to honk the horn when someone does something stupid like pull out in front of you. The fact that if you are capable of honking the horn means you could have gotten out of the way without the horn is fine, but what about that same guy who you avoided that pulls out next week and kills someone. The horn is the only source of education we have to teach car drivers to look twice before they drive into our lane.

fair enough myth. but get out of the way first and protect yourself, then honk the horn.

You might want to change the bait on your trolling hook, cause I ain'ta swallering that. I'll give you this; your wild ass ASSumptions about me are quite amusing. In all seriousness though, what is it that cagers say when they wipe out a rider? "I didn't see him, ", I'll continue with trying to stimulate their sense of hearing if needs be. Keep watching those obituaries until you're an old man crapping in your "huggies" for all I care, because it might take that long for you to see my name listed.

P.S. Instead of hoping that people ride safer, why don't you take action and become an MSF instructor?

I must agree with old and wise Michelle this thread has run its course and we must honk our horn and close it for now, but before we do let a women add a piece of advice.......( Did you really think this Italian girl would not add something here.....think about it!!!!)

The only thing a horn is good for..... is blowing thats it, it will not save a life, it will not protect you, and it will not wake a person up who is on a freaking cell phone, digging in their purse, or reading a paper while driving.

If you feel the need to use the horn go for it, but please take the second your using that horn and get the HELL out of the way because that will save your life.

Trust me......Robert and I was on the freeway coming home and some dumb ass in a car starts coming over in our lane and the only thing that protected us was ROBERT'S smart thinking and getting out of the way. The music in the car was so damn loud that nothing would have woke this guy up. Then when he finally saw us he waved....YES he waved as if it was nothing.

So stop the bullshit and understand that we all have opinion about things that is what makes us unique and there is no need to debate this shit, cause at the end of the day your going to do what the hell you want anyway.

So a wise old man once told me (MY FATHER) do not ask the questions if you can not handle the answers....... thought for the day!!!!!!!

My TL's horn does not work but I just so happen to have some loud ass pipes and they actually seem to move traffic right out of my way when I'm cruising along on the freeway at mach speeds.. All this while the police are chasing me butt naked on donkeys...and if that weren't enough, I always seem to drive right by a doughnut shop and the cops disappear into thin air...

Although the first part of my story is true, if you believe the rest you are just a complete and utter dumbass and must NEVER let me catch you driving anything other than the fuckin shortbus..now CARRY ON everyone

why should we close this thread?? because there is an actual debate in here? because some people dont agree with others? who cares. without debate there would be no resolve, no progress, no learning. this board has gotten horrible about that lately.
