there is only 1 way to actually find out if it's a Bark Scorpion, looks more like a baby desert hairy scorpion to me. The reason I say this is because the bark is the worst scorpion your gonna find out here in the west, it could kill someone with heart troubles or a small child!! Just something to keep in mind brotha, I have only seen 2 of them in the valley back when I used to do pest control, they come in on the Palm Trees shipped here from Arizona

I will tell you how you can tell the difference without any doubts..Right under the back stinger, there is a bump (node). the problem is you have to know what your looking for. I had to study all that to take the test for my license. Doesn't matter anyway, nobody was stung so it's all good

Howie, how do I make sure that I dont have anymore in the house? And if i do, how do I get rid of them? I'm back to shaking out my shoes everyday just to make sure I dont get a nasty surprise when I put them on. Just like when I was in the Army and over in Somalia, Haiti, and Panama. Panama had those nasty little black ones... | |

when you stop hearing the crickets, then you must really worry. I would call pest control out, they have the good chemicals, the stuff you buy is not as potent and not very effective, you have to have a license to buy the good shit.

Get a Mcrib, eat it. Take a dump. Spread the dump around the yard.... No more bugs..... But you may end up with alot of McWeeds...

Eagle Pest Control took care of my scorpion problem.. Plus they sprayed inside the house every time too at no extra charge... I only had one scorpion in my house in 6 years... just be careful not to step on one if you see it.. they carry their babies on their backs... that would be a mess of little bitty scorpions all over. (and they don't "squish" easily either.. )

Was actually stung by one in the garage a few weeks ago. Hurt like hell for a few days and got a red line running up my foot, but within about 72 hours it was gone. Felt like a small hammer hit my foot when the little bastard struck me.

Last one I had I took a few drops of Black Jack and put it on his back. Watched him sting himself. And then I drank to that...

I had one in my bathroom and sprayed it with bug spray. It immediately curled up and never moved again. I threw him away the next day.

on a side note, if you catch them and put them in a jar or container with a spider or something else, it is very cool to watch them fight and I don't think it is illegal just yet.. |

but that means I would have to go out and catch a spider

Will, I talked to my bug guy today and showed him your pics. He said it is really hard to identify a bark scorpion, especially from a picture. He did say the smaller the claws the more poisonous though and they are really hard to get rid of.

I found one in my garage a week ago while prepping for the track day last Saturday. First one in the 10 years we've lived in our house too. Not sure which type it was, but my bug guy (who happened to come by yesterday) said it was a desert hairy scorpion. He said the easiest way to tell the difference between the Bark and Desert Hairy is that the Bark's don't get very big, about 1.5 - 2 inches in length normally. The one in my garage was about 4.5 inches from claws to stinger and damn near made me fill my Huggies. Luckily I saw him first. From what my bug guy said, they are extremely hard to get rid of. Basically, it's a crap shoot with any of the pesticides that you can buy, or that the pros can put down because scorpions supposedly only eat once a month or so. Any pesticides put down only last about 7 days so you're paying for something that you "hope" will get eaten and get rid of your scorpion problem (remember this is the bug guy talking). I think that's why the pest companies don't have a problem with coming out and spraying for Scorpions for free every time you see one, because they know 9 times out of 10, they won't kill the scorpions. I ended up hitting him in the mouth with some Raid, and believe it or not, that put the hurt on him. The finishing move was when I chopped him in half with a metal dust pan. I didn't have the stones to capture him for further study...his days were numbered as soon as he came into my garage. Me and the creepy-crawly's just don't get along.
