I hope you have a garage? Keeping the bike out of site is the best theft deterrent. In my opinion, an alarm doesnt help much. If you do have to park it outside, a good cable running thru the frame and a wheel, and then wrapped around something solid like a steel pole... and preferably with TWO hardened padlocks. If its a hassle for a thief to take your bike, they will most likely look for an easier target, and it wont take them long to find one.

garage cover disk lock chain insurance those are your best bets. Most people ignore alarms and i think most bikes are stolen by being picked up and thrown in a truck or van anyways, and only takes a couple seconds to do that. Having the right coverage on ins. is pretty much the only way I sleep at night.

Buy a bike that weighs 750 pounds like my ST1300. You wont see that getting tossed into the back of a van very easily. Its cheaper on insurance as well, alot cheaper.

I have LoJack on my bike. If anyone moves it more then 5 feet without my special key in it, I get a phone call, text message and email. I can call the police and they will immediately go get the bike using the locating device built on to it. This has no monthly fee but it costs around $1000 for installation (they have a money back guarantee on the install price if it gets stolen which is around a normal deductable). This is the best system I was able to find as I am in the same predicament.

Hey Adam, is that transferrable to another bike if you sell your current bike?

| Quote: And like Pheer and Gambler said, you should probably go with a less popular/ less stolen bike then if you can't afford good insurance coverage. If it's a bike you see stunters using you can pretty much guess there's a big market for extra parts on that type of bike. | |

It is transferable but there is a cost associated with the transfer. It is less then the original price though, basically they require a checkup on the device before they will switch it which I would guess costs at least one or two hundred dollars.
