So I'm in the process of buying an 08 Busa and I called to get a quote for insureance today & the cheapest I could find is $3200 a year I know that the Busa is the king of the sportbike world but I'm paying $600 a year for both bikes I have right now to be covered. I am looking into some alternatives but does anyone know where else I could be looking or have any insides to this that might help me out?? I really love the Busa but I refuse to pay $3200 a year for insureance, I would be buying the bike over and over again every 3 years and that is a big fuckin NO GO!!

I pay around $675 a year for a 2006 GSXR1000 with full coverage, so I think your just getting a bad quote. I originally was quoted at around $1200 from Esurance but someone at Ride Now recommended I switch to state farms.

I have state farm and I think I'm paying about $800/yr. They were the cheapest I found when I moved down here 5 years ago

The insurance company wants to know the address where it's stored, so you could have a PO box on the moon and it wouldn't change your rate.

addresses have a major outcome of your insurance cost.

I moved from durango and 215 to flaming and pecos, my insurance went up 30 dollars. Because of the zip code.

New Superbikes=high insurance. Look for an 08 that is slightly used. That will save a few bucks. call around...the difference between companies is huge

OK, thanks to my great wifey and her connections I got a new quote from, State Farm, for $500 a year for full coverage with higher limits than the minimum so this deal is back on track for me and I should be on my new Hayabusa very soon..Stay tuned my SCS family!!

And I greatly appreciate the input..Looks as if State Farm is the best after all. I've said this in the past but the only problem I ran into before was they used to say you had to have your vehicles insured with them in order to have a bike with them, which is not the case with the insureance lady we spoke to today. Although you do get a HUGE discount when you do have your vehicles with them also which is why we are probably moving our trucks to State Farm as well. I will give out the Insurance ladies details later for anyone who may want to contact her to save some $$$

I told her that I was in a MC and would be telling everyone bout her. She is suppose to be giving me some business cards. She can do just motorcycles but if you bring your vehicles to her....WOW My premium for the 08' Busa Full coverage with 25000/50000 limits would be 983/yr if I add my trucks it will be only 536.36/yr (that is only for the bike though)

A lot of insurance companies either don't want to insure bikes or find them too high a risk. They price accordingly

And to comment to those insurance companies...Kindly go fuck yourselves. I do understand their thought process but couldn't you look at it the same way for cars and trucks. I could inflict a lot more damage to people and property if I rammed them in my Toyota Tundra then I would if I rammed into the same place with my bike. Ok, that is the end of that rant, I found my insurance carrier and that is all that matters to me...FUCK GIECO AND PROGRESSIVE, they can kiss my motorcycle drivin ass

The theory is this (by the way this happens in business all the time), if you don't want to offer someone something you give them a "nobid" which is essentially a ridiculous rate. By offering it at this ridiculous rate they are expecting you to say no but if you are extremely desperate they will go against their wishes and offer you the plan. This is consider to be more polite then just not offering a service.

As an example a company that wants to insure motorcycles but not sport bikes because they consider sport bikes to be to risky may offer great prices to cruisers and ridiculous prices for sport bikes because people might consider it rude if they say they "We sell motorcycle insurance but won't insure you because your bike is to risky". This especially comes in when you are dealing with 18 year olds.

its ok howie, when i got my 929 and wrecked it 10 days later, the insurance company took a good hit at 7,000, after 10 days. whooooo, and they covered all my gear.1,200 they lost a bit of pocket change there.

I heard the busa was cheaper than say the 1k's because they are labeled a "sport touring" bike.

Damn, that's high.

Maybe you got a stupid agent on the phone.

Try American Family.... they have been good for us over the years and they are very inexpensive. Haven't found anyone to beat them yet. I pay 20 a month on the warrior.

oh don't even get me started on state farm. been with them from the age of 16 to 35. let my insurance laps for over 30 days cause of finances, when I went to reinstate, they said because I was uninsured for over 30 days I had to go on High Risk Coverage.

Keep in mind, all these years with them, NEVER filed a claim, no accidents, no excessive tickets, maybe 2 the entire time.

I'll never go back to them.

I pay about $600 a year with State Farm. But thats with my underinsured motorist/no insurance coverage jacked up to 50,000. There was a pilot at work who got in a wreck on his Dual Sport bike with a guy who had very minimal coverage. Unfortuanately, the pilot had very minimal coverage on his bike too, and he was out of pocket $15,000 with medical bills. So I made damn sure that wasn't going to happen to me. He couldn't sue because the dude hit him was broke.

One thing about insurance, Its not just about the cost, but it's also about the ease of filing a claim, and getting good and fast results. And from what I have read from other forums, those with State Farm or who had to deal with the other parties insurance company which was State Farm, got high marks.

State Farm, Agent Jay Hodapp (also a sportbike-cruiser-trackday rider). $79 a month on my '06 ZX-10R for $250k/$500k coverage, equal UM/UIM, comp/collision with $500 deductible, and a $1 mil excess umbrella for $30 a month. I actually pay more per month for my '06 HD Ultra Classic then I do on my 10. (Btw, they have my house, cars, bikes, boat).

Here's some intersting statistics regarding insurance and the type of bike most likely to crash and get stolen. Over 2 million motorcycles were used as a sample.

If you ride a Gixxer, not good news.
