I really don't think that I would ever quit.

For me I have been riding since I was 5 on an old 5hp mini bike... Man that thing was fun...but I just enjoy it way to much to ever quit. I may go thru another phase...may be sport touring, but I wont quit.

I have been thru a lot of phases for riding..

Dirt, I had 1 RM 125, a KX 250, and 2 CR 250... a few broken fingers and toes, and a nasty couple of burns, and caused my mom several heart attacks and panic attacks.

I rode an enduro bike for several years trying to get the best of both worlds.

I rode a cruiser for a while

Then I was with out a bike for a while.. and now street bikes..

For me I really don't think I will ever quit riding it is in my blood....

What about you?

Dad bungee chorded me to him on his CB 750 Super Sport when I was 1 year old.

Got my first Dirtbike at 5

Have been riding every since.

Took a bad spill on the 15 and rainbow that cost me the bike, but went home and rode dads. All the time, and friends. I also broke in all of my friends when they bought them.

I have had many motorcycles.
XR 100, CR 125, CR 250
CB 750, XS1100, V45 Magna, V45 Sabre, VTX 1800

I am taking lessons from my father. He took his 1800 Goldwing and turned it into a Trike. He said, " I know I may not be able to hold this thing up, but they are gonna have to pull me off of it when I am done."

So trike it is!

Things happen in life, which may force us to sell a bike, or may not let us get a replacement machine as fast as we would hope to. I dont think any of that means we will quit riding.

But if you are caught in that limbo land of not having a bike, it's selling your gear that is the final nail in the coffin!

Let's say you even choose to step away from bikes for a bit, so you sell your bike, well I dont think that means you've given up on riding. You may revisit it in a couple years, but if you go through with selling all of your gear, you have officially quit.

It's one thing to pick up another bike cause you caught the riding bug again, but not likely when you have to repurchase all that gear that took you so long to accumulate.

Meh. But what do I know. arson is talking about having sex with guys for KTM's lol

Back in 98 I vowed not to ride a street bike again after riding for ten years and many close calls with idiots (cars and bikes). Gas prices hit $4.00 +, broke down and bought another street bike in summer 08 and no regrets just missed a lot of changes thru the years. Same goes with dirt bikes, got out of it in 01, moved here in 04 and bought a new dirt bike and quad. Due to the economy I'm down to our two cars and the street bike. Like I told my wife I'm never gonna stop riding again. I'll be the old fart in 30 years still on a street bike unless I pick up a nice cruiser like Freddy's.

After Gleno's accident I seriously questioned if it was worth riding anymore. Sometimes I still do. But I have been riding since I was 18 and I really doubt that I will ever stop riding.

...now if I can only get my bike fixed......

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and please have a safe New Year!!!

Yea but I can do it for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! I've done it already to a few bikes, so I'm familiar with it, it's actually really simple, just depends how much you wanna take off. My short ass on the TL, I took 2 inches off my seat, so only 1 inch is left, you'd think it would be uncomfortable but it's not, it's way better, it's like sitting in a saddle now. Plus I cut underneath the foam so it retains the factory look when you're not on it.

The day Gleno died. The similarities between his situation & mine (A geat wife, kids, age, etc.) were too close. As good a rider as he was and the total nothing he could've done events made me realize that it really could happen to me too. And as hard as that's been on his family, it would've been complete selfishness to swing my leg over & wave goodbye to the family. That's just my story. Sure as hell doesn't have be yours. Miss the hell out of my trusty steed though.

You know what, people die, motorcycle or not, they die and it sucks! You have a 17% chance of crashing/dieing on a motorcycle, you also have a 17% chance of crashing/dieing in an airplane. Now does that mean you're not going to fly just because planes crash? Or would it take someone you "knew" to die in a plane to keep you from getting on another aircraft?

I'm not trying to single anyone out, but it just bothers me that when people claim they don't ride because someone they know crashed/died on a bike. If you were a pilot, and you knew other pilots and everyone talked about all the crashes, people they know who crashed, etc... see where I'm going, do you think pilots wouldn't fly anymore?

People crash/die in cars 100 times more than motorcycles everyday! Doesn't mean you're any less likely to crash/die in a car than on a motorcycle, period!

You ride because you enjoy every aspect about it, just do your best to minimize the risks involved. And you don't ride..........because?!?!?

Hey, everything you say is completely valid. Like I said, just my story. Riding to me became an avoidable risk.
Don't ride because the bike was sold within 3 weeks of Glen's death.

i completely agree, with this comment. A good friend of mine died doing a wheelie and hitting a rock with his rear tire. I never once thought about leaving the sportbike world.......................... When i ride, i just remeber to keep the fucker on 2 wheels to avoid tickets and rocks!

Well, I think if riding is in your blood, you never truly quit. I have pseudo quit a few times due to health issues... now that I have it all figured out I don't anticipate quitting ever again. I'll be riding when I'm an 80 year-old grandma. On a sad note, a very special friend of mine who I rode with frequently, and roomed with on road trips passed away last week. When I go, I hope I go like him. We just did a road trip through CA in September (over 2K miles in 1 week). We just went to the Internat'l Motorcycle Show in Long Beach in the beginning of December. He told me then that he had leukemia and wasn't sure if he'd make it. 3 weeks later, he went into the hospital, then a coma, then a couple days later he died. That is a man who lived and rode until he died... I hope I can do the same...

So true, and well said. The times I have sold bikes, thinking I was DONE with riding, I didn't sell or get rid of one piece of gear... just in case. In my case, it was also the thought that maybe I'd even ride on the back of someone's bike...

Talking about NOT riding depresses me... hope nobody takes this the wrong way but I have to side with Jimmy on this one. Alot of people die in car crashes and I have NEVER, NOT ONCE heard someone say, damn riding in a car is just too dangerous so I'm gonna walk from now on. I know there are risks when you get on a bike but they're actually not too different than getting into a car. I've had close calls on my bike and far more close calls in my vehicles and it will NEVER stop me from driving/riding. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if they don't want to ride, this is a free country and they have that right but I also have the right to not understand the logic behind some of the reasons. I want to put this out there right now since it has been brought up...If something ever happened to me on my bike, I would hope that EVERYONE who knows me and rides would continue to ride and know that at least I left this world with a smile doing something I enjoy and living it up..

On a far much better note...Is everyone ready to ride tomorrow morning??? 1st group ride of the year
