Just like the title says, Got bored, it's snowing, so I made a heated jacket liner, with a little box to turn on/off the jacket/gloves....

A little ghetto, equipped with fuses for safety and all.... But it works like a charm!

Gloves are next!

Edit: Oh yea total cost approx $35 + or - a few bux

I was thinking a flame thrower would be better, for 2 reasons first it would clear the snow, and the cars! If you saw a motorcycle shooting a 20ft flame in front of it you'd probably get out of the way.

It only weighs approx 2-3 ounces? Not heavy at all, plastic a little wire, some solder?

Na, with all components running and the output of my alternator I'm only getting about 70-80 watts, plenty of heat, not too much, not too little.
When it touches your bare skin it feels instantly hot, but as long as I have at least a long sleeve on I'm good to go. Also I installed the switched so if it gets too hot I can easily turn them off on the go. Next plan will be to install a rheostat to control temp to a comfortable setting.

How much wire and what gauge did you use? Got to be careful using regular hook-up wire since it's resistance is very low and it's designed to carry current not heat. Don't want to see this going down the road.

I used 30 ga stranded wire, teflon coated, rated up to 600F, won't melt, won't "break" easily, ultra flexible....most importantly....WARM! And I used 33ft, to give about 3.3 ohms of resistance, my alt outputs about 14.4 volts (I know it's high, better than the stock 12.4 @ 5K) anyways, so given the formula Watts = voltage x current (amps) I should be getting approx 65 watts or better from the jacket.

I've tested it and it works just fine, all lights work, everything runs good, just warmer than before!

Yeah, I've been playing with design ideas and researching for about 2 years now.

It's not cold for me. I've already got one made, including glove liners and it out performs any of the other crap on the market. I been researching suppliers because I'm going to start manufacturing them specifically for sportbike riders at a much better price than the Gerbing and Aerostitch crap.

That's awesome, It took me about 30min to make mine, about 1 hour to make the power box. I don't know about making them large scale, but a few buds have been requesting them. We'll see.

Performed amazing! I rode all winter long, coldest I saw was 18 degrees. This year I'm making heated gloves too!

I plan on wiring up my new jacket, the built in liner so I don't have to put additional layers on. I also plan on wiring up my pants as well. No need for a heat troller on those. But I will def need a heat troller for the gloves.

Plus I did away with the box, just plug the liner directly to the harness, like I said....amazing!

Wiring up your own heated gear is brilliant. I snowboard and scuba dive on cold water, but the coldest I've ever been is on a motorcycle. There's something about being out in the elements on a motorcycle that can chill you right to the bone. I'd definitely wouldn't mind learning how to wire up a jacket.

I've actually got a sweet liner, about 90w of heat that I could mass produce. Looks pro, wiring harness included. If anyones interested I'd make/sell ya one for $100. Just hook the wiring harness up to the bike, then just plug in your jacket when you wanna be warm on them long rides. if interested PM me
