So I'm looking at getting a new (to me) used bike (hardly).

So I can get this bike from the dealer with approximately 750 miles, it's a 2006 CBR1000RR for $6500 out the door, it's FMV is about $8000 in it's current condition, and they'll do the first time service when it's time:

I'm not really digging the yellow, but it should grow on me....if not I'll paint it. So what does everyone think? Pretty much a new bike, and I wanted either this or a zx10r.

Hell... for $6500 out the door, that's a great deal! I actually like that color scheme.

Just from knowing the dealers and their ethics around here, why are they selling below fair market value? Doesnt sound like their MO.
If its a solid bike, sounds like a good deal though. The color??? It may just grow on ya.

I would say the only thing to worry about is which dealer are you working with. If it's Carter or Ridenow be forewarned about their service dept record.

Yup the beast is going to another dude, Carlos, he's cool and we'll probably see him riding with us here in the near future.

Agreed, this is a one of those dealers, but it's being sold as consignment (a personal sale, which the seller tosses the dealer a small fee for allowing them to "advertise" in their establishment) So I'm not worried about them having worked on it in the past, but for a first time servicing, I CAN do it myself, but if they're going to toss it in with the sale, why not? If I get it back and the valves are tap dancing like Richard simmons then I'll know somethings up!

I think I'm gonna get it....just a matter of paperwork, green paper that is!

Thanks matt + E, that bike looks sic, i've seen that color before, only thing i don't like are the blue rims, i would leave them black. i dunno, i might paint it a different color, the more i see the yellow the more i like it.

If you do get it be sure to ask about the gas tank recall. Mines a 07 and it had to be recalled

I did ask about that & the manual recall, both have already been fixed. Also they're throwing in a brand new Yuasa battery !

I dunno about exact matching, probably just black ones.

Off subject but I went to Cycle Gear yesterday to try on boots, there were a few Alpinestars that I liked, but all of them were flexible in the ankle area, even the $400 ones. I know they're supposed to flex a little, but I didn't see much of a difference from the $80 ones I was looking at before, except an expensive price tag and an established logo.

Actually I found out that it's being sold from the dealer, so I'm really getting it for about $6K the other money is in taxes, tag, etc....

A dealer can't sell something in Nevada that isn't what it says it is, meaning it has to work. I'm sorry but if I leave there and let's say a valve gets stuck down hits the piston, how could that be my fault? With my background I don't think I'd have a hard time fighting that in court, if it even had to go there, I'd just call the next day and say "yo shit be wack mang!" And have them fix it, that or I set the bike on fire and drive it through the front window (assuming it will drive one last time)

has nothing to do with how it runs. i was saying make sure that the title is clean and clear, also it would tell you if there were any claims on. do you relly think the dealership will tell if it has had any claims on it???

I don't understand what you mean by claims? You were talking to me earlier today and I didn't really get it?

a claim can be placed on the title when a creditor of the previous owner sues for money due. It's an asset that can be used as collateral on a debt.

that help?

Cool, I get it now. But could the Dealer legally sell the bike if that were the case? Let's say that happened, couldn't I just call the dealer back and be like "hey this shizit it has a claim out on it, give me my money back b"

Either way, a free carfax report sounds like the best way to avoid any mayhem.

So wouldn't the Dealer have to obtain a title once they purchase it from the seller? Then would they legally be able to sell it again knowing there's a claim on it?

If anything the date the claim was made would be before my purchase date and that would alleviate me from the "claim" burden if there was one, correct? Meaning the vehicle history would show the dealer would be responsible to inform me that I'm purchasing a motorcycle that has a claim out on it, plus they wouldn't be able to get a title for it to sell in the first place.

I'm gonna get a carfax, but I don't see it even possible for a dealer to sell a motorcycle that has an insurance claim out on it, let alone obtain a title, or sell a motorcycle that's been rebuilt with a clean title on hand (never shows rebuilt), just my 2 cents, but thank everyone for their opinions....much love!

And even still, take my buddies bike for example, get a car fax on it, there will be no vehicle damage history, since he never did an insurance claim on it, in this world you will never know the truth unless you watch the item come off the assembly line and into your possession. Either way F it, I'm getting it, I'll be riding a Honda (+1 Jeff....) and it will be sweet, if anything goes wrong I'll fix it, cause that's how I roll.....even in 2-3 years if the engine explodes from me riding a wheelie too long (cause I will) I'll buy another motor on ebay for $1000 or less, swap it out and call it a day, have before, never stopped me from being a hooligan....it's just my time and money, time is endless, now if only my money were like that!

*End Rant

You guys are funny... here's my .02.

Carfax might give you some good information, but it won't beat just a basic once-over by someone with basic mechanical skills. I'm quite sure Jimmy has done his homework on this bike, but I'd just check a couple things for shits and grins:
  • Does the engine VIN match the frame?
  • Is the bodywork all OEM?

Aight, so carfax don't be working for motorcycles and sheit! I asked the dealer he was like um, WTF? So I even tried to get a carfax (carfax.com) Typed in VIN, kept saying the vin wasn't correct, so I did a little more research, carfax does not support motorcycles.

BTW cash is in, I'm getting the bike today, MOFO's!
