I Ride: K7 FZ-1/ 1980 CB 650
Hi there, I am a sport biker from way up north, Calgary, Alberta Canada.

Two of us are contemplating the idea to ride to Vegas on a five day trip. So far the itinerary includes leaving Calgary Thursday May 21 at 3 PM and ride straight to your fine city (about 18 hours, I am told). We want to arrive before noon on the Fri. I will be on an 07 FZ1 and he will be on an 08 1098, and yes we both are a little crazy.

Any ideas about best route to take, good rides to go on when we get here/there, places that are bike friendly to stay or anything else that may come to your mind would be awesome.

Also we both would be very interested in going on a group ride(s) with a few of you guys to get a feel for your local bike culture.

Neither one of us are very interested in the "strip" but will likely spend an afternoon there so given the limited time alloted, what are the best deals/places along the strip to "check out"?

BTW kewl site from what I have seen, we have a similar site at home, check it out.-=Calgary Ground Pilots=-

Thank so much for any info.

I posted this up for another rider coming to town...

If you want there are several ride route here around Vegas.. Some good some ok

Red Rock loop... 12 mile one way loop... Ok early morning late afternoons with out all the tourists.
Take Charleston Road all the way out past Red Rock Casion and it will be about 5 to 7 miles out on the right.... $2 entry fee for bikes
MMM Some decent twisties... watch out for dumb ass tourists that stop in the middle of the road.

The lake... I hardly ride there any more... but keep it at the speed limit and you will be ok.. Lots of LEO enforcement... When I say keep it the Speed limit Keep it the speed limit.. to many MPH over they will impound the bike... the rangers have had it with speeding sportbikes.

You can ride 93 out to the dam and do the DAMM thing then ride back on the same road and turn off on 166 be sure to turn off on 147 (north shore road) or else you will end back up in Vegas.

Start at the south end of the lake, from Boulder City and ride all the way to Overton... Calville bay is a decent road...that is a side road off the main road the speed limit is 35 MPH and tickets are expensive.. I know.

If you stay on the main road at the end of the good pavement slow down.. the road gets rough (motorcross rough) tons of bikes have went down out there... Take the 15 to Moapa then you can take the 168 to the 93 and back to Vegas Be sure to gas in Overton. Or cut it short and take the 15 back to Vegas.

I would not ride Valley of Fire on the North end of the lake,, Just not worth the trouble..

MT Charleston... Great road

95 north to the MT Charleston Exit Kyle canyon rd ( 157 I think) just a couple of mile out of town... Ride all the way till the road dead ends at the Charleston Lodge. Grab a bite to eat or take in the view and head out. You go back down the road you came on and about 4 miles take a right and go up the Mountain.( on 158). Decent road with the twisties... When the road dead ends in the T intersection Take a right (156 I think I cant remember).. This takes you back down to the 95 and you can head back to Vegas.

you can use google maps to see the routes I'm talking about..

You might also google Nelson NV just south of Boulder City.. quick side trip nothing to see except a ghost town sort of thing....

My wife can get some great rates at the NY NY and I can get some comp tickets to some of the shows, or comedy clubs...
