Did you know that McCarran Airport has Motorcycle Parking in the long term garage? Yes, it's great, it's on one of the lower levels, and right next to the elevators.

Here's the problem, they charge $12, the same for a car, at least that what it was a couple of months ago. WTF? I have e-mailed the parking director and have expressed my views. Afterall, we take up much less space, we should be charged less. Just like if you had big RV or if you drove a big truck, you should be charged more because you take up more space.

Someone at work suggested that I should become a member of the AMA and get them involved. These are the type of things that the AMA likes to get involved with. They also said that the AMA were responsible for getting motorcyclist to use the HOV lanes on all of the federally funded highways.

I don't get it... you state that the parking is, in your words "great" refer to it as a "rip-off" because it is the same price as automobile parking? I would gladly pay the $12 per day to have a prime airport parking spot for my bike. Typically, parking charges are per vehicle, whether it's a motorcycle, automobile, or panel van.

Would you rather pay $6 a day for motorcycle parking in some secluded area of the parking garage? Whether or not the rate is the same for cars and bikes is not as important as the value of the service IMHO.

Besides, you could always park your bike in one of the "economy" parking lots in BFE. Good luck with that.

I disagree, you should be charged less, because you are occupying less space. just like you are charged more for driving an oversized vehicle. There are many fees applied to motorcycles that are less vs other types of vehicles, whether it's tolls, park entrances, stadium parking, etc. Yes, I have the right to occupy any space, but once again, not really the smartest thing to leave your bike unattended in a regular parking space that can go days unoticed if something ever happened. By ocupying the designateed area for motorcycles, allows more vehicles to occupy the regular parking spaces for cars, maximizing the number of vehicles be able to park in the garage, and providing more money for the airport, which always comes into play during the holiday season, as the long term garage always sells out.

Great that the Airport has a designated parking area for bikes, not great that it cost the same for a bike. At $12 a day, it adds up fast and sometimes depending on the length I'll be away, I have to weigh whether it's cheaper for me to leave the bike at home and take a cab.

hmmm this sounds like a fat person who is told they have to buy two airplane seats because of their weight, i dont think you understand that if they did separate fees like that, there is probably some cager thinking, why do i have to pay double because i take up more space? thats not fair. And then here we go again..

until the world acknowledges that motorcyclists are used more then just recreational purposes.... you wont see shit happening..anywhere.

Why are we able to use the HOV lanes? Why are we exempt from the smog test when we go reregister or bikes? Does Red Rock charge the same for bikes as they do for cars? I don't go there often so I can't recall, but most state parks or national parks, they cost to enter depends on the type of vehicle. I know a lot of tolls are cheaper for bikes vs cars. As far as a person who can't fit into one seat of an airplane, yes he need to pay for two seats.

I would have no problem with the airport charging less for motorcycle parking. But given the fact that they provide prime parking real estate for bikes, I personally wouldn't have a complaint. And if their hand is forced somehow to lower the rate (highly unlikely), I could see them moving the bike parking off to some out of the way spot.

In other words, I could see the parking situation for bikes being much less attractive than it is currently. Twelve bucks a day is a small price to pay for a primo spot IMHO.
