I saw these cooling vests before online, but they had them at cycle gear. For $35, I figured I'd try it. I rode to work with it this AM, but at just 70 outside, I was cold... So, now that its 97, I hope to see how it really works.

I'll keep you posted, but just the idea of not sweating at every stop light sounds GREAT!

Most of the hardcore summer riders here already have one of these, but this piece of gear definitely deserves some attention now that the temps are going up. I wore mine for the first time this year last Thursday and it definitely helped me stay cool. Here's the item for those who haven't seen one of these:

Cycle Gear - MOTOBOSS: Cooling Vest, SILVER

I'm probably the only member of SCS that doesn't have one yet. I should get to Cycle Gear before they're sold out.

I did most of my riding in the Bay Area where 85 was hot, so I wasn't up on the summer gear until I moved here. I got myself some pheonix gear, but this is the first year I'll have something like this. I can't wait for the ride home in 16 minutes :)

Cool (no pun intended)... why don't you come out Thursday and try it out in the evening heat!

I have one. And it works, but it's really not that hot to use one of these yet. I wear it under my mesh jacket during the real hot summer days when I find my ride to exceed 30 minutes.

I want to go Thursday. My wife finally found work (woohoo!), so there's a small childcare thing... but I'll work on it. I'd really like to meet all of you. I went to Moto Cafe last Wednesday, but wasn't able to stick around long.

So, the latest on the vest... Even though I think it is pretty much just me and one other person (Slejor) that don't have one of these, I'll throw this out - just in case someone wants to know. I soaked it at about 2:30, hung it up in my cubicle, and left the office at 5. In my 15 mile commute, I didn't sweat at all. When I got home, the shoulders were a bit dry, but my skin was totally cold. I hung out in the garage for a while wearing it, and was very comfortable. I think this thing was very much worth the 35 bucks!

Also, my T-shirt was damp, so you should expect to not wear this over your shirt/tie or you'll be looking like a homeless stock broker by the time you get to work.

Again... totally worth $35!

Hey guys just want to give you a heads up they have the motoboss cooling vest in stock over at the Pecos location. Just gave them a call and they said they had it in every size. I'm going to head over there tomorrow to pick one up. $35 is worth a try.

This cooling vest would be useful for maybe two weeks up here.

question. I just got this cooling vest TechNiche Evaporative Cooling Vest and after the first soak it was oozing slime like it was a slug on salt. are they supposed to be supper slimy. also is it safe for my leather jacket to wear it underneath? will it hurt the leather? Do I have to soak it a few times before wearing it to cut back the slime. its not just slimy to the touch but dripping slimy on my hands when I try to wring out the extra water. any and all help appreciated. thanks all :)

Yeah, that's normal...
It will stop feeling slimy after some dry/soak cycles.
But don't go crazy just soaking/drying it to get rid of the slime...just use it normally and eventually it will go away.

When I first bought my vest, I also got one for my wife. I soaked her's and it wasn't slimy hardly at all. Then I did mine, and it did the same as BloodDust's. What happened, is the vest "malfunctioned" and all that slime was basically the "stuff" coming out of the vest. A little slime is normal, but that is a complete malfunction. After mine did that, I let it dry and soaked it again - it dried in about half an hour. I took the vest back and exchanged it. The new one didn't excrete all the slime and works very well. I think you need to return it and get another one. You'll probably just end up with a vest that keeps you cool for half an hour at a time, if you don't.

The vest I have now (motoboss) holds water for about 4 or 5 hours and about 2 if I'm mostly on the freeway.

All that to say... you should exchange it :)

If your name is Sally or Nancy or toddulu. I rode 2300 miles last weekend and through 3 seperate snowstorms. Nice. Temps from 80 to 25 degrees.

There are a few companies out there that really shine when it comes to customer service. The moto gear business is so competitive that companies really have to go above and beyond to keep customers. And they rely a lot on word of mouth. This is a prime example.

Good job. BTW, who was it that you called?
