Owning an insurance agency, all I really do is collect families. Often I insure first time lady riders and would like to direct them to a womens MC community. Sorta like this forum, just more polite, smells better and is geared for women.......Any input would be appreciated, Thanks Barry

Hi Barry,

Perhaps I am misunderstanding the purpose of your request... are these ladies looking for a social outlet where they want to ride with ladies only, or are they looking for a place to learn about riding, gear, people to ride with...?

I'll give you my take... I have been riding for a long time and been on many, many motorcycle forums. They are meant to provide information and advice on riding, gear, etc. There are more and more women joining these forums and we help each other out. I personally am not aware of a forum specifically for women, and quite honestly, have never had a thought to look for one. If the women you are speaking of are looking for good information and advice, any one of the existing forums out there, including this one, provide exactly that, and the info. is the same regardless of gender. Yes, you may need to sift through some sites that are more raunchy or that aren't safety conscious, or search for those geared towards the type of riding you do, but they all have something to offer. I also find that most men riders are far more evolved and polite towards women than many non-riding men, so when you say "smells better" etc., I think this place "smells" pretty good. Most of they guys love to see women riders and will do what they can to help... it's up to us women to put ourselves out there, and ask for the help (not demand it). I have found that someone is always there to offer advice or come over and help me with something if I ask. It also helps if you put out some effort yourself and let the guys know what research you've already done and what you tried, so they see you are intelligent and want to learn, you're not just some girlie looking for a free fix or free advice.

Overall, this is probably the best site in Vegas for new riders... they are very safety conscious, notice new riders on the boards and at meetings and someone usually takes the new riders "under their wing" so to speak, to help them learn proper riding techniques. I may regret this but... .... if you'd like to send your lady riders our way, and tell them to look me up, I'd be happy to help them out with questions they have, help them learn, and if I don't know the answers, I can find someone who does... again, I'm sure any of the guys here can help, but if they feel more comfy with another lady, they can start with me.

I farted... I don't know why I had to let that be known, but whatever.

Anyway, I'd have to echo Karen's thoughts... and women (and men) who are new to riding need to concentrate on finding the best resources for learning. The number of actual riding enthusiasts, men and women, who are gear/riding education/safety oriented is a very small percentage of total riders. Further breaking this group down to just women will net just a handful of riders.

Eric...!!! I take back what I said about it smelling good in here! Geez, I gotta leave now!!

Barry... yes, there is alot of this stuff on this forum, but it's a choice. Do you stay away from great information and people because they can be rude and crude sometimes, or do you choose to take it for what it is, laugh at it and join in the fun? We all like to laugh, and these forums give me plenty of opportunities for laughter... case in point above.

GUYS, the polite and smelly remark is because I know some of you......I love this forum, lurk daily and even post on occasion. I have spoken at meetings and contribute whenever you guys have a good cause (like Wednesdays), BUT for a new rider on a cruiser, with no experience, SIN CITY SPORTBIKES seems a little overwhelming......she's also 50+, and a client NOT a friend. I'll send my friends here all day long.........if I had any.

I think this is a case of worrying too much. We all have to start somewhere and we all find our way, one way or another. I say, give her all of the forums and info. you can, along with your impressions of each, so she has an idea of what to expect. She can then make the contacts and find the right place for herself. SHE made the decision to ride, SHE picked her bike and SHE needs to figure out the ropes... just like we all did. Who cares if she's 50+? Does that mean she's less capable of... anything?

Damn, I was such a totally different person before learning to ride... and scuba dive for that matter. Both of these things pushed me outside my boundaries and forced me to do things I wouldn't otherwise do... and gave me whole new perspectives on things. It's a journey and each one of our journeys is our own personal one. Don't try to make hers for her... she needs to find it on her own.
