Beautiful ride to work. Made all the green lights, light traffic, feeling great. Then its time to park the VFR....lots of people in the parking lot but theres a great spot right up front. As i TRY and put my right foot down to begin backing the bike into the parking spot I realize that my foot is stuck...the lace for my riding boot has become tangled with the peg...I try and go back to the left but that aint workin...so there I am leaning left and tipping right for what seemed like an hour...now keep in mind this is not a "private" moment...I am in full view of colleagues and strangers alike arriving for work AND I know I am goin over...at a complete standstill... and it is happening slooooowly. Finally...we go over...sloowwly. after a few quick jerks the lace comes loose and I pick up the bike. Light scratches on the bike but my ego...well thats another story.

Nice... I've heard of this, but have yet to experience it. Although this bring to mind the appreciation for boots with covered laces. My current choice:

Did anyone help you up? Or laugh?

How does your riding boots have laces? Proper riding boots shouldn't have laces for that reason.

This is the reason that tennis shoes or other laced shoes are a bad idea. I had warned my roomate a number of times about riding with tennis shoes and he ended finding the pavement on the driveway one day. He's still a squid by the way.

I am sorry, but I laughed so hard when I read this. I think every biker has had a moment when they thought they had their footing and almost/did fall over. Guess it could have been worse, you could have been at a stopllight. =)

Ack! I know the feeling...

About a year ago I had been doing alot of work; putting in extra hours at work, trying to catch up on classes, that sort of thing. After a couple of weeks of little or no sleep I finally had a reprieve. After this last shift of work I back my bike into the carport, swing out of the saddle and - then get pushed over and partially pinned by my motorcycle - all happening in that crazy slow-mo. I was so out of it, that even as it was happening I was just 'Whua?' instead of the usual 'OMG! THE BIKE IS FALLING! SAVE IT! STOP IT!' I just kinda lay there a sec trying to puzzle out what just happened. In my exhausted 'just-wanna-take-an-effin-nap' daze I had simply not put the kickstand down but acted as if I had, letting go the the handlebars with complete confidence. I'm not sure how I managed that because usually the kickstand goes down before I get off the bike. Whatever: FAIL

No damage to the bike other than a scratch on the bar-end mirror (That may be attributed to the fact that my sorry slow-moving ass served as a cushion) I suffered a bruise or two. No witnesses (at least I don't think I left any) All in all, no big deal but quite the wake up call: I shouldn't have been riding in that condition in the first place.

So there ya go:

1. tuck your laces
2. get proper rest

THAT is classic! I have to admit, the dude knocking the chair over and laying there was pretty funny. I've been there as well with the forgotten kickstand thing, but my worse "moment" was right after I got my first bike. I went riding with my roommate at the time around the streets of San Antonio in January (bought the bike Dec 30th). After riding for about an hour in the cold, we stopped to warm up and when I pulled into a parking spot, I simply didn't put my feet down and fell over with the bike pinning me to the ground. I was so freakin' cold that I couldn't move once I stopped and never took my feet off the pegs. Luckily I fell to the opposite side of my roommate's bike. His goofy ass was talking about some bullshit and looking in the opposite direction and never heard me fall so there I lay until he decided to turn around. Guess the cold had my voice too. I failed.

LoL these things happen. My gf got her laces stuck on the pegs of her 636, while backing her bike down a hill. Needless to say when she shifted her weight to put her other foot down, she had nothing...and went straight down with the bike. Fortunately she wasn't hurt, but the funny thing was that she was trapped under her bike. Me and my friend Mad Dog had to come over and pick up the bike off of her, which made for a few laughs.

Guess I better tuck the laces in on my Jordans!

I remember one time right after I got the FZ1 I went to Wal-Mart and the only boots I had at the time were steel-toe work boots that had some deep treads and when I went to put the sidestand down, the little ball that you push on got stuck in the tread on the boot, so I swing the stand down, and when I picked my foot up (as I was leaning the bike over onto the stand) up comes the kickstand. I almost dropped it, but didn't. THEN...the same thing happened "TWICE MORE" right after catching the bike from going all the way down.

I'm like "Fuck these boots". And promptly bought some riding boots.

I was wearing the Shift lace ups with the velcro strap to hold the laces down but I was in a hurry that morning and didnt take the .32 seconds it takes to make sure the velcro strap is securing the laces. Could have been so much worse...I made every green light on my way to work so fortunately I never had to stop, otherwise I wouldve fallen over at an intersection. This is an example of how being in a hurry or not "keeping your head in the game" can bite ya. NOW I take my time, check my gear, check my tires and bike. Simply put, there is -0- tolerance for sloppy ride prep!
