First off, welcome to the forum. Feel free to ask as many questions as you need. As for the bike, I'm pretty much the same height and weight as you are and I think the gs500 would be a great bike to learn on. It is very comparable to the Ninja 500, but I dont see nearly as many of them on the road. Don't worry about your height or lowering the bike, I doubt you will have any problems with that once you learn to ride the bike.

Dude you'll be fine on a GS500 as long as you keep your head on straight and pay attention to during your msf class. Only being 5'6 doesn't really matter. The only time your feet will be down is when you stop. But most of the time while you're riding, your feet will be up on the pegs. I taught my Newphew how to ride on a dirtbikes/600RR, he's about your size and he did just fine. The only extra advice that I gave him was don't let the bike's weight bully you around, you bully the bike. Meaning if the bike's weight catches you off guard during start, stops, or stalls...don't let it get the best of you.

Good luck!

Good deal on getting your MSF on, and the 500 should be a great bike.

Welcome to the site.

thank you everyone for your support im andrew by the way much better site than anyone else so far. ive noticed that the bike community is much more geared towards helping others out than themselves, unlike the car world every time i even ask they act like jerkoffs even though i wont quit that sport i still wanna be involved in this as well thank you again guys

Im both a Gear and Sprocket guy. And I would have to agree with you that the bike communities tend to lookout for each other a little better. Now thats not to say that I haven't met some good people and made some life long friends along the way in the car scene. But there's a real sense of Camarederie when it comes to other bikers. Maybe its the real dangers that come with riding that pulls us all together. Camarederie or Kamikaze-erie, call it what you will.

Again, good luck and welcome.

i totally agree when it comes to making a few good life long friends in the car i too have as well but its always nice to not feel like im asking a stupid wuestion when i have never had that type of ticket or issue and instead of getting simple answers i just get called a stupid kid just because i ask for help every now and again i just think that the biker community seems to care more about the people they ride with no matter what it is and help out the person rather than insulting them and making them feel insignificant about what they do they know how it feels to be new and dont forget what it was like so they help complete noobs like me
