I Ride: 2002 CBR954RR
I just wanted to encourage any of you out there that frequent this forum, or have just stumbled upon it (as I did a few days ago), and have not yet gone out on a ride with the SCS, to just do it. Today, the guys rode out to Oatman, AZ, and I joined them. Being brand new to the forum, and never riding with anyone besides myself, I was slightly intimidated and nervous, as I rolled out at 6:20AM. Not knowing what to expect when I arrived at breakfast, I braced myself...hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. As soon as I took my helmet off, I was greeted by everyone, calling me by my handle on here, truly demonstrating how incredible this group is. Immediately, my feelings of awkwardness and embarrassment subsided, replaced by a sense of family somehow. The 9 people sitting around the table at The World Famous Coffee Cup were made up of every aspect of society, which helped make me feel like I wasn't an outsider, but that I, too, belonged.

There was never any pressure, competition...just pure passion for riding. Having my group-ride cherry popped today, was the most amazing experience (although I am sore). As much as I love riding, I am incredibly surprised by how much I love just sitting around watching, listening, and being around others that enjoy the same thing. Instant bonding (for me anyway), that made me feel part of something.

So if there are any of you reading this, that have wanted to join up with the SCS, but have been unsure of the type of welcome that you would receive, or felt even the slightest bit of intimidation.....brush it aside, it will never apply to these people. If you see ANY ride posted, that you are capable of making....DO IT. Coming from somebody that has never rode in formation, only been riding a bike for 1 1/2 yrs, and never been to the track....it's the easiest/best thing you will ever do. It just feels so natural. Step outside your comfort zone, it will only last for the duration of your ride to the meetup, and then it will be repayed 10 fold.

And to all of you that rode with me today: Thank you for your kindness, patience, and most of all...forever changing my life. I know it sounds pretty intense, but that's because it is. I'm hooked. Hope to see you soon.

I'm glad you had a great experience. We always welcome new riders and are always looking for good people to ride with. For your first group ride, you did great. You fit right today, like you had been riding with us for a long time.

Thanks for joining us today, hope to ride with you again really soon!

I was just ahead of you in riding formation most of the day and I was a little nervous at first as you has stated earlier in the day that you had never rode with a group. I must say you rode perfectly. I never had to check my mirrors for you or worry about you not leaving me enough room for an escape route. It was a pleasure to ride with you. Hope you make it out for more rides.

-Buck.

Funny how people hear the name "Buck" and automatically assume I'm a 6'5 300lbs farm boy from Oklahoma. In the future, please save the short jokes for Arson's dick...

Great to have ridden with you today, Timmay!!! As Buck stated, you rode a great ride today... no issues noted whatsoever.

I hope that somewhat extended dookie break I took didn't make you too late for work.

You know, the show started at 4:30 (usually I start the show, and call every cue in the show) but I got there at 5:30....parked in the grass behind the theater....however...being skinny, I COMPLETELY understand the need for a dookie break, as my metabolism is faster than your busa. So no worries, besides, I chose to stick around. I'd rather ride with you guys than do a magic show ANY day. Chris is at the show right now, which should have started 6 mins ago....the rest of you need to come.

I plan to, as soon as I get a suit. I probably will never be able to do anything other than LVMS before I buy a house here, because I'm never in town on my days off...so maybe March. By then I WILL have leathers. Unless somebody on here is 6'1"-6'2" and weighs around 160lbs.....LOL. But seriously, medium tall....something like that, 300$ or so...

Good to meet and ride with you today.
You did ride pretty well in the group.

As for the track days...Myself and a few others around here plan to go next year once they start again at LVMS and Pahrump.
Stick around and I/we will be glad to help you with track days.

I also mention to the graduating class that if any newbies need an experienced rider to steer them in the right direction while getting some actual on road experience, I tell them most members here would be willing to help out.

Not sure if anyone has joined, but I do mention that they can usualy get a hold of me via this forum.

Hey TiMMAY, glad you had a great first impression, now that everyone has given you a warm fuzzy feeling, we all can let you see what a bunch of assholes & lunatics we really are.

Nah, just kidding. We have riders come and go all the time, and I like to think that SCS is the perfect place to start (and even end) a riding career. There are still a few of us founding members here (I think 4 of us are left, out of the original 60+). I have yet to see a better club to ride with. We have peeps that ride everything from cruisers, 250 Ninja's, Hayabusa's and everything in between. From casual riders to hardcore trackday junkies (and at least one former racer).

So don't ever think that you are alone with your skills/ability. We are here to help and mentor riders of all skill levels and bike preference.

Due to a neck injury, I probably won't see you on a ride, but make sure you try to make it to the December meeting so the rest of us can meet you.

Now get back to reading all the old threads about our history :-)

I want to be at the meeting, but unfortunately I will be out of town, and any time I am in town I am working 7 days, from 6-midnight. BUT, once I get a place out here, I will be at every one that I have off...which isn't often. From now on, though, I'm going to see if there are any TWT's during my time off, and if there are, I will stay in Vegas a few days extra to make them. Sorry to hear about your neck injury.
