Do you consider yourself as a all weather rider or a fair weather rider?

I consider myself a all weather rider I have several vehicles to drive but my preferred means of transport is on my motorcycle. It does not bother me when it is cold or that one day a year it rains here.

I might chane my mind if I lived some where when there is 3 foot of snow on
the ground

but here in Vegas I like riding all year round

I too ride year round as my motorcycle is the only transportation I own. The 2 or 3 days a year it rains means rainsuit riding. You can dress warm for cold it's a little harder to dress cool for the 115 degree summers, but you do what ya gotta do.

Welp considering my bike is my main mode of trans, i have to ride in whatever comes at me...

But If I have the choice, I do not ride chance it and ride in /rain/snow..If I had a reliable second vehicle that would probably change. And it isnt so much worrying about me crashing. I can handle my self.. Its the idiotic, fucking unbelievable assholes we have behind the wheels here. Rain? snow? It dont matter, everyone instantly becomes brainless, 10mph operating non spacing death on wheels armada.

I ride whenever convenient. Most of the time for me, riding the bike is too much of an inconvenience as opposed to driving.

edit: to address the specific question... I do ride in all conditions.

Yes nice pics =]...

Yes nice pics =]...

Let me get to my point....

I think it is kinda unfair to sit there and call people babies (you are not the first) when they purposely choose not to endanger their well-being more then they have to. Not just physically, but, mentally, emotionally and financially as my life is dependent on my vehicle, where as most of you, have backup vehicles, be it another bike, car, spouse... I have none of these. (yet)

To experience months of agony, pain, poverty, for what? A ride in the snow? Ive crashed a car before, it was my only mode of transportation. I had full insurance and a rental car that was only covered for the first month. I was royally fucked for almost half a year and took YEARS for me to catch up, lost a job. etc etc etc. All because of a joy ride?

If you have the money to spend sure, if you have the options and backup vehicles needed to continue your life incase anything should happen to your main vehicle, lucky you.

Some of us dont. =]

EDIT -

I guess i could have just said

Yes I am an all weather rider. I think eric said it best. I ride when convenient. But that doesnt mean I wont ride in floods, snow, to get shit done. But I will choose not to ride in shitty ass conditions.

I have the upmost respect for Arson & Vegasbiker, as I fall under the same category: The bike is our only ride, no back-up.

I can assure you that only a very small percentage of the people on this forum would be able to survive with just having a bike as their only means of transportation. I'm not talking about the luxury of your wife/husband or boyfriend/girlfriend having a car as backup either. But just a bike.

Most of you would just give up and give in after less than a year, yet alone going 3 years plus. Yes, it's a minor inconvenience going to the grocery store everyday or every other day, or trying to purchase large items, which usually is via online delivery. Yes, you get wet when it rains but that's what rain gear is for. I have a heated vest, so it's never too cold to ride here in Vegas.

But again, I save a lot of money riding vs driving. I spend about $50 on fuel every month travelling about 1000 miles, and another $40 on insurance. Plus I look forward going to work and going home because it's a lot more fun to ride than drive in my opinion. Plus, riding everyday keeps you sharp. We never forget about the idiot cagers out on the road because we deal with them everyday.

For those of you who voted for all conditions, next TWT when it's pouring down rain, don't forget to ride in.

Since I work at home, I only ride for recreation. I'd probably ride a lot more if I had to go to a real job everyday.

But if its raining or cold outside, I'm not going to hop on my bike just for the hell of it, thats not very recreational to me. But there have been many times when I'm on long rides or weekend trips and have been caught in the rain/fog/freezing temps/scorching heat etc.

Do you have kids?

Aside from that... there are times, like when I want to go out on the town with the wifey or a few friends, when riding just isn't practical for me. If you have the lifestyle that supports a motorcycle-only household, that is great. But a lot of peeps either do not have that luxury OR they would prefer to take a more efficient approach to transportation.

And FWIW... I think the majority of peeps (including myself) could survive with a bike as sole transportation. Vegas weather makes this situation tough, but certainly doable.

I did the motorcycle only for two years riding from Pahrump to Vegas everyday. It sucked!!!!! I now ride when i want to because I enjoy it, not because I have to.

Well...My bike was my main transportation for the past 6 months. So I guess you could say I was and still am an all weather rider. That was the highlight of my day - riding to and from work. I love it! Even though I just bought a car about a month ago, I still ride to work 3 times a week. I believe it makes me a better rider. I have much respect for others that their bike is their main transportation. It's a much different lifestyle!

Nope, at least not that I know of. That would definatley make things difficult, and just not practicle. I agree, you have to have some form of transportation that will allows your family to move around.

Definately your ride must depend on your lifestyle. Single with no kids definatley is taylored made for bikes.

But I think the Vegas weather is one of the better climates to ride year round and that's part of the reason why I do it. I really wouldn't call it tough.

Anywhere between 70-118 degrees is good for me. 2-wheelers are supposed to be fun. Freezing with rain are dangerous conditions for a CAR, to say nothing about a 2-wheeler with no cage, seatbelt or airbags... not fun! LV residents are lucky to have excellent weather year-round and hardly any rain or snow, but to me this is a safety issue.

Ride safe.

I'll watch out for you if you pass me in the rain in my sedan (with the radio, wipers and heated seats on).

Yes, we are blessed with year round weather. But what's wrong with 65 degrees? Your riding range is from 70-118? Riding in 110 plus degree heat becomes a safety issue before 50 or 60 degrees. I still ride in the heat, even 110 plus but I make sure my rides are short and drink plenty of fluids before and after my ride regardless if I'm thirsty or not.

Used to be all weather when my R6 was my only vehicle
did that for 4 years
coldest day was about 28 degrees and hottest over 100

Now a days I have several vehicles and commute to work according to the weather/seasons

Mainly from end of March thru mid Oct commute on my bike when temps start dropping into the 50's I commute in my car or truck.

Prepping to ride in cold or wet weather takes much longer for me with the extra thermals, turtleneck and balcava and rain gear, then feeling big and restricted by all that extra stuff. these days for me its more of a convineince to drive rather than ride on cold or wet days

Plus I dont think that Power Race or Power One tires do to good in rain

I Will and have ridden for pleasure any day regardless of weather

My 'comfortable' riding range is about 50 - 105

Any colder than 50 means I have to bundle up too much, and hotter than 105 means its starting to get too hot for my gear, which means its getting too hot too ride.

So that means I dont ride a whole lot in december - january and then july - august. But the other 8 months are great.

The only time I ride in bad weather is if it happens during a ride otherwise I try to avoid it. The best bad weather ride for me was in panguich when it was raining.

Now this is a more of a realistic riding range that probably most people can relate to. But a clear cold day in the 40's & even in the 30's with my heated vest, I'm nice and warm.

ill ride when its nice out. but if i had cold weather, heated stuff, i wouldn't mind riding in the winter. same with rain, i would ride in it if i had the proper gear to do so. but since i have the gear to ride in nice weather, that's when i ride.

For fun only. I have the pleasure of sitting my butt on heated or cooled leather in a climate controlled environment on my way to and from work.

I have a car, had to use it before I got my new bike. Now It collects dust, snow, rain, what ever the hell the weather is. I will ride it until the wheels fall off. I didn't get it to look at it! LOL

Born and raised around bikes. It was mine and dads thing, now that he is gone, I find myself closer to him when I ride! So I would ride all day and night if I could.

See you out there!

Fair weather!

For 3 reasons: 1. I don't want to lose the joy of riding 2. I have a car 3. I have a kid

My bike truly is a leisure mode of transportation, not a necessity. I want it to stay that way and riding when it's super windy or raining just isn't enjoyable to me.

All weather baby! Come June, it will have been 3 years of 2 wheels.

I'd say it's cause I'm hardcore or some crap, but if I ever get the rest of my identity back and enough money for a car... I imagine there will be days where I just don't feel like creatively packing my bike to get something mundane accomplished. Only with the bike do I get random free Starbucks tho...

Hot or cold I ride, but if it is raining I will drive the truck. Riding in the rain doesn't bother me. It is the idiots that drive that scare the hell out of me. Everytime I have been riding in the rain and get hung up at a red light some asshole comes sliding to a stop behind me. Have actually had one care sliding in behind me and when it came to a stop the bumper actually tapped my back tire. For those of you that only have your bike for primary transportation, be safe and stay clear of the the four wheeled F***ers.

Not that I endorse this type of riding here in Vegas, but for the reason mentioned above, about the vehicles sliding to a stop, I filter right up to the front of the intersection during a red light. Plus, this way, I stay ahead of the wash, giving me better visibility.

You do what you got to do.

That is a good idea, but if you are first to the light you are at the mercy of everyone behind you. I have alot of respect for those with only a bike for primary. Only time I use my truck is when it rains, otherwise the wife has it and I ride to work everyday and as much as I can on weekends. Speaking of weekends, since the wife goes out of town next weekend I have 3 full days and nights to be on the road.
