Around 11:30 tonight, got pulled over by a cruiser (car) for having............................................ ..........loud pipes! I just came out of a red light next to the cop and accelerated ahead of him. Came to the next red light, where I stopped and took a right hand turn. Started accelerating again and I had no idea he was behind me and he lit me up! While I'm pulling over, I couldn't figure out why he was pulling me over? I wasn't speeding, okay maybe 5 over indicated. Maybe I didn't completely stop at the red light before I took that right turn? I usually never put my foot down when I come to a stop, so maybe this time I didn't come to a complete stop? But I doubt it, after all I'm a pro. He came up to me and asked if I just got the bike? I laughed and asked him why? "Did I look like a Rookie?" I said I currently have over 41,000 miles on this bike and showed him my odometer. He asked for my driver's license so I told him I would be reaching into my riding pants to grab my wallet. (reminding everyone I ride with full gear)I decided that I wasn't going to take the risk of receiving another ticket like a couple of years ago, so I decided to identify myself as a Motorcycle Safety Instructor. So I gave him my license along with my Instructors License from the Nevada DPS & MSF, plus my insurance card. He ran a check and said I was good. He said he rides too and he's curious who he is going to pull over. He also mentioned that most bikes end up running away from him and he was very thankful that I stopped. He is told not to chase the bikes for a simple traffic violation. Interesting I thought. I told him we get a lot of cops taking the BRC and I have graduated my fair share and he knew that. I also told him that about 65% of the riders here in Las Vegas are riding dirty so chances are, he would get lucky finding some sort of violation. He was kind of surprised with that stat, but it's the truth. So I told him he did the right thing by pulling me over. He just got unlucky! But I encouraged him to continue to do so even for the most minor violation. So the point is.......You better be riding legal! By the way, a very nice young officer, we are very lucky to have him to protect & serve our community. Only regret I had, never got his name.

I dunno what to make of this... On the one hand I am legal all the way and do follow (aside from 5 over) the posted limits and traffic lights... But on the other hand you congratulated him for pulling you over and even told him to continue pulling over bikes for minor infractions? I don't know whether to say good job on following the law or traitor lol.

It's because of these illegal riders that causes so many problems for us riders who are responsible such as yourself. And if you don't believe the statistics, if anyone can recall last summer when Metro came down to bike night at MotoCafe, they ended impounding and towing a ridiculous number of bikes. They had a freaking field day. Hit the search thread, and I'm sure you can read all about it. There is no rule that you Have to have a M endorsement to join a forum and post up or even go out on a group ride. And I'm sure there are some people here who are riding dirty, and unless you are actually a SCS member, there is no way to verify that you do. Just wanted them to take notice, kind of a wake up call. It's getting that time of season again, for those who don't ride year round.

I think you handled yourself great. I'm sure there are alot of riders out there that don't ride legally and do run from him. I'm sure he appreciated the fact that someone on a sportbike gave him respect.

I can see your point... the majority of legal riders are most likely more responsible when it comes to obeying the laws and accepting when you get caught messing around. Though I'm still kinda on the fence about suggesting to these already gung ho officers to pull over more bikes for less serious infractions, why not just tell them where we meet up every week and have them crack down on us there?

I"m not sure that I'm all about them pulling people for minor violations, I saw a guy on a silver gsxr with the tag barely hanging on running from the cops the other day. I'm all about that guy getting a ticket, but me getting a ticket for not signaling a lane change, I'm not to trilled on that. Everyone should have their M but if they dont they should work towards getting one. I cant say that I was overly thrilled when Metro did their thing at Moto Cafe. Certainly they have that right, but a side effect of that was the everyone quit going to Moto Cafe, creating a decline in business, more importantly a decline in a Tax base. Your lucky you got off with a warning. Me on the other hand I never get a warning

This all sounds a little odd to me. I don't have anything against the police, I know they have a job to do just like me. But I would never thank a traffic cop for pulling me over, especially if I didn't do anything wrong to get pulled over. Nor would I suggest or encorage him to randomly pull over other people on motorcycles. To me thats like saying..."Hey thanks for fucking with me, I hope you fuck with a whole bunch of other people just because they like riding motorcycles too." I could be wrong, but last I checked there's difference between being respectful and kissing someones ass. Last edited by Fallen; 04-20-2010 at 01:24 PM.

Just my 2 cents... Most police officers in cars are either going from call to call while the motorcycle units (usually callsign is TOM unit on the police band radio) conduct traffic enforcement. As a side note, it is very hard to NOT get a ticket from a motorcycle officer (I guess the moon and stars need to align just right in order for that to happen). Occasionally, you will find a motorcycle cop driving a car but he/she will still wear their motorcycle boots if they are still assigned traffic enforcement. Now, in VEGASRIDER’s case he was pulled over by a marked police car which tells me the police officer was “fishing”. “Fishing” is when the Officer is looking for a reason to pull someone over to find something else bigger. As an LEO, I used to pull people over for minor things all the time in order to try to find something else but usually the determining factor is the person's attitude. Hell, I've let people go even if the person did not have a license as long as they had the right attitude and agreed to have someone else pick up the car who was a licensed driver (or if the passenger was a licensed driver). I don't think most officers like to hang around and wait for a tow truck cause it can take anywhere from 1 - 2 hours for them to arrive (or if you are in the middle of BFE tack on another 1 - 2 more hours). Now, do I think "fishing" is right? If you get an opportunity to ask the trooper who stopped Timothy McVeigh because he did not have a license plate on his vehicle and I think he would probably say yes. Or you can ask the guy I pulled over a little while back who jumped in his car and ran the stop sign after I drove by him. What made him run the stop sign? Maybe it was the meth rolled up in the little baggie on the passenger seat or the cocaine individually wrapped in his back pocket. Aside from the drugs, he was a cool guy and very respectful (given the circumstance) so I let his mom come by and pick up the car rather than towing it and keeping the vehicle (current laws allow for police to seize a vehicle or money if it is used in connection with a drug offense). Partly because it was the only vehicle the family owned and I felt bad enough I was taking him to jail considering he was just released less than a month prior. I know for a fact that NLVPD does have some training officers who are very aggressive with finding reasons to stop a vehicle. While training the new officers the senior officer would say "stop that car" and expect the new officer to "find" a legitimate (key word legitimate) reason to pull someone over otherwise the new officer may not make it past that phase in training. I, like most of us here, enjoy riding bike around town and occasionally speed but I am willing to accept the consequences associated with that risk. For that reason, I have a class M and always keep my registration and insurance current but that doesn't mean I will not get a speeding ticket. Just ask the NLV motorcycle LT who gave me speeding ticket two months ago. In my personal opinion, I feel vegasrider’s actions and the way he conducted himself were appropriate. As for riding dirty, that only messes it up for everyone else….. Last edited by nvryder; 04-20-2010 at 03:38 PM.

I don't think I thanked the cop for pulling me over, but definately may have thanked for not giving me a ticket for whatever reason I got pulled over to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to get pulled over, but I don't really mind it either. I find traffic stops very interesting. I do however endorse getting unlicensed and untrained riders off our streets. So yes, I encourage him to keep doing so if that what it takes. Even if it's just one rider By the way, I was riding so perfect, he had to use the Loud Pipe Strategy to get me.

Well it is good to have some LEO in put here. As a former LEO myself I know the drill about pulling people over. Truthfully I hated traffic with a passion I used it for two things finding dope loads and DWI, other than that I hated it and only maintained enough to keep the LT off my ass. I truthfully think that traffic tickets are used as another form of revenue generation and that is why I wrote just enough to make the boss happy.

Yeah Im not downing Vegasrider for thanking LE, he's just trying to help get Squidriffic, Wannabe Biker Boyz, and the Decepticons off the streets...believe me I get it. There's all these guys riding/racing around town at speeds well beyond their abilities, just dieing to wad their bikes up on the side of the road...or should I say Dieing when they wad their bikes up on the side of the road. Most of them should never be up on 2wheels in the first place, untrained and illegal. But I think there's gotta be a better way to help, than to send a message to LE that we're ok with getting pulled over for nothing. I mean Im a hard working business man, most the time a model citizen and an all around stand up guy. Life is too short and time is money. I don't have time to pay for someone elses bullshit, while LE fishes or profiles. I do something to get pulled over, shame on me. I get pulled over for no good reason, shame on them.
