MANCHESTER, N.H. -- State police said a man on his way home from Motorcycle Week on Tuesday ran into some dangerous trouble. The motorcyclist lost his prosthetic leg on I-93 southbound in Manchester around 4 p.m., just a few miles from exit 5 in Londonderry. He was spotted by a trooper leaning against a guardrail. “One of our troopers found the man sitting on the guardrail, missing his leg,” said New Hampshire State Police Sgt. Paul Hunt. The man told police he lost the leg as he was navigating a curve on the interstate. “It then came across both lanes of travel, across the breakdown lane, across the grassy median,” said Hunt. Police said it's incredible he was able to safely glide to a stop and there were no accidents. Manchester firefighters searched the side of the interstate and found the prosthetic. “It was in a boot, stuck out, so it was pretty easy to find. It was just lying there,” said firefighter Mike Meehan, who found the leg. They were able to reattach it and send the motorcyclist on his way home to New Bedford, Mass. Emergency workers said because the man didn't need any medical care they never got his name. They escorted him to meet up with his friends, who rode with him home to Massachusetts.
