So I have Geico, and I pay $770 a year when I lived in North Vegas. I move to Southern Highlands, and now it doubled!!! I am FRIGGIN' IRATE!!! I move from the freakin' ghetto to a nice area...you think I'd get a discount for that.Does anyone know a cheaper insurance company?? I need help bad! August 13th they want $525 instead of the usual $257.

They use zip codes to determine your rate. Not sure why Southern Highands would be more. You sure your insurance rate didn't change because you changed bikes? Are you still getting your MSF discount? It does not last forever, maybe two years max. That's when it becomes a great idea and spend $60 and take the one day ERC. No testing for you since you already have your M Endorsement. Other than that, you can shop around with other companies.

I took my MSF course almost exactly a year from now. I had asked her why that when I moved to an area that must have less crime than North Vegas my rate was going up?? The girl told me it is based on claims and apparently there are more claims in this area. I think it's ridiculous!

You might want to check out RideNow Insurance, which is technically American Modern Select. I had people quoting me like $2500.00/year, and the best I was getting was $1,000/year. I got a guy from American Modern to do it for a little over $500.00/year and took it (otherwise I wasn't buying the bike). A while later called "RideNow and am now paying around $400.00/year. The guy from American Modern was a little mad because it's basically the same company, but somehow the "Select" makes a diff. Check it out and compare the prices... the gal I talk to there (can't remember her name now) is really cool. Good luck finding something affordable. Phone number is (480) 755-5404. BTW, my auto rate is higher here in the Paradise section than it was in Summerlin... the reason is there's alot of theft here. And there is, but it's all on Flamingo and the businesses... absolutely nothing in the residential areas, so go figure. I guess they don't differentiate.

Would recommend State Farm also. $47 a month for full coverage. It probably helps that my truck and sons car is on the same policy. Talk to Mark Shepperman (he rides also) Office in shopping center on south west corner of 215 and Alliente Pkwy PS--just looked at this months bill. it has been reduced by $31.54 for the 3 vehicles Last edited by dannymac702; 07-11-2010 at 11:52 AM. |

Don't be fooled with the super low rates by these smaller companies. Make sure you have heard good reviews by riders who have actually filed a claim. Part of insuring the bike with a reputable company is the ease of filing a claim with little or no hassle. I have heard very good stories about State Farm, reimbursing riders for all Mods and safety gear with little or no proof. Plus getting good value for the bike. And I have heard horror stories with some other companies, not wanting to pay up or offering ridiculous low figures even with the proper documentations and receipts.

Vegasrider has an extremely good point. Most people worry about the bottom line only and do not pay attention to things such as filing a claim and what is fully covered and what the payout is. (and even how long until you actually get paid out for your claim) I also have had heard horror stories about people going with "off brand name" companies for their insurance because they got this awesome rate...UNTIL...it was time to get a claim. Then they found out none of the mods were covered (including their riding gear and helmet) and then found out after they went through all the run around that it took them like 6 months to get their claim check. Ya, that's a problem. Don't get me wrong, I like to save a buck, just like anyone else. However, there is a limit. I'm with State Farm because they have done me right and I have gotten a pretty good rate with them for full coverage on my bike. When I was in CA, I had to file a claim with them on my 02 R1 because some idiot took me down on a group ride (he was acting stupid, did a wheelie with new gearing and lost it and took me down too) and then refused to pay for my bike parts after he said he would. So, anyway, long story short, I had to file a claim on my insurance. They came out TO MY HOUSE, within a day, did the estimate and paid me a check on the spot, including the mods (which there were only one because I only had the bought the bike brand new 13 days earlier), jacket and helmet that were damaged. Plus, they went back after his insurance after it was confirmed what happened, so my rates didn't go up and all was good. That's why I'm with them. I'm not saying that you should go with them. To each their own, but it's something to think about when you're basing it on the rate alone. Sh!t does happen out there and sometimes you really do need to use your insurance company. Make sure you have one that is there for you when you truly need it/them.

I have been with Allstate for car & renter's since 1994 and when I added on my moto (2 different ones since 2000) it was WAY less than all the #s you guys are throwing around here. Yes, zip code (and therefore theft & comprehensive risk) is a factor due to claims in the area, but also age, gender, combining multiple vehicles, claim history, ticket history, value of moto, and who knows what else also factor in. I have never had a claim about a moto but a few with various cars and they always took care of me properly. Try my agent Brent Bowman at Allstate in Aliante (yes, technically North Las Vegas) at (702) 645-0843. Good luck.

Vegas Rider is absolutely correct. The more well known insurance companies tend to take care of you better, and make filing claims a fairly easy process. I'm with State Farm and I absolutely love them. Got everything through them (cars, bikes, house, life ins) and they take VERY good care of me. They don't offer a discount for having the MSF training under your belt, but their reasoning is that their rates are already at or below the rates of the companies who do offer the discount. On the couple of occasions where I have had to file a claim, they were very helpful, and very speedy in closing the loop and either replacing what I had lost, or issuing me a check. State Farm quoted me at $660 per year for a 2008 Gixxer 1K so I would imagine your R6 would be quite a bit cheaper.

I have shopped all of the above and a majority of them are outrages quotes. In 2001 I recieved a quote from Geico while at the dealer before they would deliver my R6 and it was over 350 a month. I was devistated because at that point I could not afford it nor thought it wAs worth it. The salesman then reffered me to his agent which was Statefarm and paid $50 a month and to this day I still have State Farm on my 750 and pay $43 a month Now that is a multiple policy and I'm over 25 and clean record thank to CPK

It's amazing how many positive posts there are on this forum and as well as other that span across the nation about Statefarm. This is why I choose to stick with Statefarm. Even though I can receive a 50% discount as an intructor with another company and save money, I still pass. And yes, no MSF discount, even for me.

My bike insurance was cut substantially when I let progressive know that I own the home I'm in. There's a good chance your rate went up cause you're renting now.
