That didnt work out... trying to do some research now on what tire to get and where from... might end up going ebay.
I just cant decide if I should replace both front and rear- and if so, what tire to get? Or if I should just replace the front and try to match it with my rear, which is a Dunlop Sportmax?
All I REALLY need is a front, but it seems most people say to change them both at same time.

Personally, I would replace both tires if the front one is bad. Reason being that you are more likely to lose traction in the rear well before the front with a new front tire. And highsides really suck. My .02.

Thanks Eric. The reason I need a new one though is because it got a little goose-egg looking bump on it all the sudden the other day. I was riding home and I was almost home when I noticed the steering was wobbly at low speeds. I checked it out and there's like a bump in my front tire.
I want to do the right thing for safety, but I'm also not in favor or spending more money than I have to. Obviously, if money weren't an issue, I would buy both without thinking twice.

How old/worn are these tires? If the rear still has plenty of tread, then you will probably be OK.

Maybe I will take a pic and send it to you when I get home... I bought the rear "slightly used" off ebay last winter cause it came with the rim that I needed. So the rear has been on there since about December and has probably gone about 4,000 miles since I've had it. The front was on the bike when I bought it last August so it had slightly more miles than that before it got this bubble.

Arson, can you speak dummy language for me bro? lol... PP I'm guessing= power pilot? I found a set of Dunlop roadmaster on ebay for $250ish... I don't need an aggressive tire... just one for straight up commute riding mostly.

Well you can also look at the tread wear mark. Look in the grooves of your tires and you should see a line that goes across one of the grooves. this is your wear mark. If the rubber is anywhere flush or near this mark, its time for some new tires.

The pilot power or road would be perfect.

Sorry about the abbreviations hehe!

The pilot powers are 198$ Shipped For front and rear!!!

Roads would be $235.95 Shipped

You could spend a little more and go with the ROADS (comparable to the dunlop roadmasters), they would last longer...but for the extra 40 bucks it may or may not be worth it to you depending on how much you do commute.

I got around 8000-10000 miles on my first set of Pilot powers pretty much all commuting miles. I am on my 3rd set now(upgraded and went to the 2cts for the track) -I easily commuted around 30,000-35,000 miles on 2 pairs of pilot powers. I was also pretty anal about my tire pressures, could be why I got so many miles out of 2 sets. I usually check my tires once a week also.

And that goose egg/flat spots usually happens from sitting for to long or that tire has just reached its end life point. If you plan on having your bike sit for more then a few weeks, I would suggest getting a front and rear stand to prop her up off the floor! Get rid of eggs, flat spots, etc!

For some reason the shipping rates didnt update for me, its 15 bucks to ship the tires to vegas so, add $15 to that. Looks like you would be paying the same for either set of roads/road master.

Up to you at this point! Unless you want to go with pilot powers.. or some other brand/type

Thanks for the info Arson... I was planning on coming to the bbq until I realized yesterday that it was on Sunday. I have my son on Sundays... so I may or may not come depending on how the days going with him (unpredictable with a 3 year old!).
As far as the tires... The rear still has some tread left, but I think I'm going to go ahead and buy a whole set anyway and just keep this rear for an emergency spare. That way I can ride with confidence that I have 2 new tires that are matching as well. I only commute about 150 miles a week on my bike because I only ride a couple days when I don't have my son. I just want a good tire for straight up riding.
I'd like to order today or tomorrow so I will have them by end of next week. The prices sound good on that site, Arson! Now I just have to decide PP or the roads... any one prefer one or the other for straight up riding? It's rare that I ever hit any canyons or twisties or anything like that.
As far as the goose egg... it probably came from sitting because I was out of town for a week and the bike didn't move... so that's probably a good amount of time in this heat!

For just straight up riding you would probably get the most life out of the roads without a doubt.

However, as a side note, if you keep having issues with bubbles/flat spots. You are def going to want to find a way to prop her off the ground (front and rear stands).

And no worries!! Didnt know if you knew bout the bbq! =D Hope to see you man, been too long!!!!

If you are going to go Michelin go Pilot Road 2's i'm running them on my R-6 and have had great mileage with them. Have about 12,000 on them so far and they look new with plenty of tread left. If you make it to the BBQ I'll show them to you and you can decide for yourself if they would work for you or not.

I was going to order mine through that site, but at the time I needed them, I didn't have any stands to take my tires off and to the shop to have them mounted. Now that I have stands, I'll probably go through that site as I've heard good things about them and pretty fast delivery from what I've heard here. Especially on the Pilot Powers (PP), the Pilot Power CT2s and even the Pilot Roads

Ok cool bro, thanks...

I think I'm going to spend the extra $30 or $40 for the Roads so now I just have to find where I'm going to buy them. Cycle Sector seems to have pretty good prices, but they don't have my sizes listed. I need 160/60/17 and 120/60/17

Give 'em a call...maybe they don't list it because they don't think it's a popular size or something. Never hurts to make a call. Maybe they have one set left sitting around and just didn't put that size on the site, so you'd be the lucky owner because you took a sec to call them.

Ya, I called em and left a message... they must not be open on Saturdays.

However, I just called around town too and Cycle Gear actually has some great prices on the Roads! $235 for the set... plus she said they are having a 10% off sale on the 16th and if I purchased them now, I could just bring my receipt back that night and they will give me the 10% back! I thought that was pretty sweet. I talked to Kristen... super nice chick.
The Road 2s are about $70 more! She did try to sell me on them, but I heard great things about the Roads and can't imagine that the Road 2s are worth $70 more... especially since I'm on a tight budget here.

cool...plus it's local and you can go right down and get them taken care of. Plus, I think it's like $10/rim to mount/balance them if you buy the tires from them.

Keep this in mind, though. The Pilot Road 2 is a much newer and more advanced dual compound tire design. It may be worth the extra few $$$ to pick those up. Especially since you can get the 10% discount. They're the best of both worlds. (handling and longevity)

For the record, I ordered the tires today through Cycle Gear on Pecos. Super deals on Michelin right now! Everyone was awesome at Cycle Gear as usual!!! Thanks to Gregg, John, and Pilot. I love that store- had to get out of there before I spent even more cash that I don't have. But $245 for the Roads with mounting and balancing and everything included!

Thanks again for the help guys! Eric, I would've gotten the Road 2s for the little extra, but getting the front AND the rear was already busting my budget! I think I got a sick deal for the Roads though.

That 10% off sale is going on tomorrow at Cycle Gear again according to the website... for only two hours though... I gotta go pick up some tires of my own then figure out some way to prop it up to get them mounted..
