I Ride: 2005 CBR 600RR
Hi SCS,
I've been trolling the site for about 3 hours now reading by-laws and posts and such and it sounds like SCS is a good group of people. SO, without further ado....

A little bit about myself:
I've been in Vegas now for about 4 months. I'm currently serving in the United States Air Force stationed up at Creech near Indian Springs. I've been in the USAF for just over 8 1/2 years. Past locations have been Lackland AFB in TX for basic, Keesler AFB in Mississippi for Techschool and Langley AFB in Virginia was my "first" base. I had been there for about 7 years when I finally got orders to come out to Vegas. When i got those orders my face went .

How I started riding:
I had always wanted a bike, a sport bike. Finally June of 2009 my wife broke down and let me get one. Since it was my first bike and I had never ridden before, I got a 09 Kawi Ninja 250R. Well in October I lucked out and just happened to stop at the dealer just to look at some gear, and there was my new bike, looking at me, seducing me, saying "come ride me". After inquiry i found out that this (soon to be mine) bike was a 2005 (cbr 600 rr) that only had 257 miles on it. It was black/silver tribal and all kinds of sexy. Not more than 3 hours later I had 2 bikes sitting in my garage.

Experience:
When I brought my 250r home I couldn't wait until my BRC (Beginner Riders Course) to start. So with general knowledge of how to ride I began teaching myself within the confines of the complex I lived in. By this point I already had my learners permit from NC (where my wife is from) so techincally I could ride on the road, but I was no where near ready. By the time the BRC came around I excelled and was ready to start riding! The Air Force is always helping out those who ride. I was able to take advantage of an opportunity to go to the ERC (Experienced). Both times at both courses I have learned invaluable skills. I've really only done one "Ride" Langley had a ride last year sponsored by the wing and it was a really fun, enjoyable experience. I would like to participate in more.

I always have been really careful and responsible on my bikes (ATGATT amirite?) I have my wife and baby to take care of and they are always on the back of my mind while I ride as a constant "don't be stupid" reminder.

What I'm looking for:
Like minded individuals who enjoy riding, but also do it responsibly. I'm also looking for a community who supports it's members, friends and just generally like to hang out. SCS seems like that kind of community.

My toys. The 250R has been sold.

TLDR version.

Hi, nice to meet you.

I saw Total Control linked in a post around here. Lee Parks actually came to Langley AFB and talked to all the riders there and gave us a mini class. He even took us out on the tarmac and showed us some skills on cornering. Great experience.

Great first post and welcome to the site Devlyn! Lee Parks has been a great friend of the Club and his Total Control ARC course is an excellent way to bridge the gap between the MSF ARC and a full-blown track school. We do try to maintain an environment of safe, responsible sportbike riding here. Many of us just got back from attending this trackday at Buttonwillow Raceway yesterday:

8-29-2010 - Track Day @ Buttonwillow w/TrackTactics

We'll be looking forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming rides/events. We have a member here stationed at Creech as well and I'm sure he'll be chiming in.

By the way, nice 350Z... I've got it's cousin in my garage.

Nice G, I wish my Z was black, but I got a great deal on it so I'm not too picky on that. I hope to make one of the meets as soon as I can. I havent had a day off work since July. Hopefully that ends this week though.

I am interested in going to trackdays and what not but no where near comfortable enough to get out there, hopefully when I show up to some meets I'll learn a few more things and gain some "track confidence"

Yup, just like Eric said, great Intro.

And welcome to Vegas. From what you have mentioned above as a new rider, you're doing everything right. That Ninja 250 has a great resale value, as it's in very high demand since it's probably one of the most popular starter bikes.

Wow...someone who FINALLY gets it!

Started out on a lower cc bike so you could learn the basics and worked your way up. That's how it SHOULD be done...I can only wish more people/new riders would read your post and heed it.

Good to meet you and lookin' forward to riding with you soon.

Lol, thanks. Like most things, I took some time and researched it. A guy I worked with started on a Busa and called me a wimp for starting out on a 250. Mine cost $3500. His cost $13,000. I sold my 250 for near what I paid for it and moved on to a 600, he dropped his.

I just figured if I'm gonna put my life and some money on the line I needed to be prepared for it. I've put close to 4000 miles on 2 wheels and there are times I'm still not comfortable. I'll probably stick with a 600 for a long while. I figure by the time its paid off I'll be comfortable enough maybe to move on to a liter bike..... and turn the 600 into a track bike.

I have to echo the sentiment on how well thought out your entry into riding was. Good for man. That 600 will serve you well for a long time.
