I was wondering if SCSB is involved wih any charity rides or events. If we are please pardon my ignorance. I read the article below and many others like it. I was just wondering if we could organize or have organized a charity ride. Because of my occupation, I wam witness to good folks losing homes and jobs everyday...while it is heartbreaking NOw it starting to really piss me off. Kids are the innocent victims in this mess. Maybe there is nothing that can be done...i dunno...its just a thought...any ideas? LAS VEGAS - Until a few months ago, 55-year-old Thomas Milton and his 10-year-old daughter were unable to do what some families take for granted: Sit with each other in their own home and watch television. Before moving into their current home, they spent two years without a home. They were homeless, floating from one place to another. "You're never comfortable," Milton said. "You're always on eggshells, because you're living in someone else's house. You're in their apartment, even though you might be paying them a little something, but it's theirs." According to Title I Hope for the Clark County School District, Milton's daughter was one of about 5,500 students without a home last school year. That's up nearly a thousand from the year before. "Miserable, you feel like you're nothing. You're worthless," Milton said. "You don't give up, just keep fighting. But at the same time, you feel like this nothing. It's just like you're not even a real man." Milton says many options exist for people looking for a home. One option, Family Promise, helped him and his daughter get their life back. "It's just a great feeling. It's just a joy, especially when you got a kid, when a kid can just come home and do whatever they want to do, and that's just stay home," Milton said. A number of factors are contributing to the valley's rise in homeless families, but the economy is the main culprit. |

We deal with 2 charities, one, we use for rides/events , candle lighters I believe..and another, we use for our annual scs xmas party, where we adopt a family and provide them with an awesome xmas experience for thier child and the parents (child is usually in remission from a life threatening disease/illness.) But that is about it. If you want to get a charity ride setup. It would take a bit of work. Not hard. Just have to get everything in order. If this is something that you would like the club to help out with. Def talk to one of us about coming to our next meeting and see if you can speak at the meeting with your idea.. Hope that helps!!

Yes..I will do some research and see if I can find a charity that deals with homeless kids/displaced families. Thanks for the tip. Leaves me feeling like I should be more involved with the club...? My bad. Both of the charities you mentioned are awesome. This charity stuff is new to me. I recently became involved with The Clark County Neighborhood Justice Center as a volunteer. I am also a volunteer Boating Safety Officer with the Park Service at Lake Mead. Anyway. i will do some research and see what comes up.

SafePlace/Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth has programs for homeless kids. Went on a poker run organized by some sportbike club where the proceeds benefited them. I've also heard about these orgs on the news a lot.
