Thoughts?

Good read. There are many novelty helmets out there that I have seen. Mostly guys on cruisers. All helmets for motor vehicle use are required to be DOT approved and a law needs to be passed to enforce riders to use and ticket those who do not use DOT approved helmets. The plastic novelty helmets only protect from your head from a sunburn.

AZ requires riders under 18 to wear a helmet. Otherwise, helmets aren't required.

I thought the whole point of the helmet law was to help save lives? Not to let the dumbasses on who just bought the biggest baddest bike out there go out an kill themselves.

Bottomline is sometimes people can make stupid mistakes that cost them dearly, ie. not where a helmet, then when they get killed, it's the family that rises up and wants stronger laws. It's a viscious circle. Just nip it in the butt to begin with and have a helmet law.

I wouldnt be popular if I made the laws. I'd require a helmet, boots, gloves, jacket, and medical insurance. And mandatory loss of your driver's license on the first DUI.

that's why we vote out ppl that want to take away our rights/choices as free americans

lets make everyone that is born put a helmet/boots/gloves etc... on, they might fall down and crack their head open or stub a toe because they are an idiot

i think it's time to get back to ppl respecting machinery and making those kinds of choices. the way it's going any idiot feels they can ride that high powered bike because he has gear to protect him, not the other way round and we all know no amount of gear is gonna save that moron.

I think it should be up to the rider to decide as long as they are educated on the statistics and aware what the consequences are. even if that was the case, I would still wear a helmet, and a full face helmet too.

But they should sign a waiver stating that the tax payers won't get stuck footing the medical bills if they end up crashing.

I think you're overestimating the average person's intelligence.

Riding a motorcycle or driving a car is not a right, it is a privilege. As much as I agree with smaller government, in issues like this it's a no brainer. There is a reason why there are seat belt laws and hundreds of safety regulations to help save lives.

The main argument is that riders should have the right to choose. That if they die it only effects them...WRONG! The higher the fatality rate and cost of medical expenses to help those who don't die, the more everyone pays in insurance. Want all bikes to be limited to 85mph...get rid of helmet laws...want to pay 5 times what you are paying now for insurance...get rid of helmet laws. The list goes on forever.

For those of you who think you dieing or becoming a vegetable only effects you...ask your friends and loved ones how they feel about it. They may have a different opinion.

once again, it is called natural selection. it happens every day anyway, with or without whatever law you conceive of or get rid of. where there is a moron with a will, there is a moron with a way.

For those who ride without a helmet, I would love to invest.

Let me pay their premiums on their life insurance policy and let me become the beneficiary. My odds are in my favor that I will collect. As crazy it may sound, I have sold a piece of myself at work. I have a couple of co-workers paying me $48 a year in the event that I die, they will get $20k through our company insurance. If I die, I want as many people to gain much as possible financially.

If anyone who rides and want to create some sort of buddy system in which we pay each other's premiums, PM me. For you club members, you could even include SC as one of your beneficiaries.

I think everyone who rides a motorcycle should carry some life insurance, especially if they have a family. I have no sympathy for those who die crashing and leaving loved ones behind stuck with all the bills because they were not responsible enough for doing the right thing. If they can afford to ride, they can afford to pay a small premium for life insurance too.
