ok i wanna start ride my bike to work. i'm just worried about thief. i mean i don't want to come out i find my bike is gone. i work at a casino an park were security patrols so the chance are slim but i also dont want to make it look like it would be easy. i was wondering is a chain and lock good idea or what else works. what do you guys use and think. oh an yes i know if they really want your bike they will get it so lets stay on prevention.

You could lock your rotors.. Honestly if someone wants your bike, you stand corrected, they will take it. The best thing is to make sure you are insured for theft. In the event something does happen, you wont be completely screwed.

+1. If they really want to take it, they will lift the whole damn thing up, throw it the back of a pick up or van, and off they go. My brother-in-law is with Metro and he says motorcycles right now are the hot commodity on the black market because parts are hard to track and they are easy to strip.

Make sure your motorcycle parking has surveillance camera coverage. This isn't a guarantee that it won't get jacked, but it helps. And aside from all of the locks and whatnot, throw a cover (and a cover with a cable/lock is even better) over it when you park. Thieves like to search for particular typed/models of bikes and this will help. It also takes more work/time to jack a covered bike.

+1,

Which Casino? Depending on which casino it is, they may or may not have motorcycle parking and if they do, some are better than others.

This is me, but others may disagree. Take your helmet with you. I don't care if you have a helmet lock, it's just like leaving a $300 item in plain sight locked up inside your car. It's an invitation for it to get stolen, damaged, or vandalized. Yes, I know of a rider who had an ice cream cone discarded inside his helmet during the summer. Nasty. Plus if your helmet is stolen, your bike is now disabled since you cannot legally ride without one.

same as what everyone else said...

park in front of a monitored camera where security patrols, disk lock, cable lock around a pole, bike cover, lojack, theft insurance...

The Venetian has great motorcycle parking. The largest and the best location for a casino. On the first level and it's huge. I've parked there many times, but I have always taken my helmet.

I don't know much about disc locks. But I would say braid over chain. Braids are ususally rubber coated and they weigh much less than a chain with about the same protection.

i would use a disc brake lock from cyclegear one that has an alream on it so if they movie it. it will make a high pitch noise.

One of these. One of those. Of course, plenty of this if the bike has a loan on it. Regardless of whether there is a loan on it or not, as others have mentioned its a must to have plenty of that. Oh, and touch of this never hurts.

Based from all of the posts from various forums I have belonged to, most bikes are not stolen at work or from a casino. They are in apartment and condominium complexes. So if you live where you park your bike outside overnight, this should be your primary concern, not at work.

I hope you have a garage, then no worries.

I got the Scorpio rLink SR-i1100 alarm on my bike. It's pretty nice. Gps tracking, perimeter alarm, tilt alarm, it sends a message to my phone when an alarm is triggered, and does a lot more too. If you want an alarm, my opinion, this is the best. Here's the link:

I'm not trying to argue, if they want it, they WILL get it, but at least I have a better chance to recovering it quickly. I've had my '07 GSXR 1000 stolen from me in San Antonio, and a few months later, my '06 F-350 diesel. When I got my '05 GSXR 1000 here, the first thing I bought was the alarm. I know how it feels to get my stuff jacked, it SUCKS! But I feel a little better with my alarm and all the things it does on it.

Leave it in your garage , but if you must ask for it to get stolen , Valet is probably the best way to keep your bike for a few extra days of riding.
