Hello, I've been in Vegas for about 15 years (since highschool) and bought my last bike back when I first got back from Iraq in 2003. It was a GSX-R SRAD 600 with 750 motor swap, and was pretty trick. It wasn't my dream bike *ducati 999* but it was a great bike. I rode pretty religiously and actually used it for commuting. My car only saw use during bad weather. Two years later a 16 year old girl was flying through a parking lot in her mom's pick up truck and jumped out of a parking lot in front of me in the right lane, and I was sandwiched between my bike and her pick up before going over the top of her pick up and my bike sliding around the back side and following me down the street in front of boca park. I spent the night in the hospital with mild injuries and a concussion, but it was an event that destroyed my bike and my confidence in riding. ![]() Six years later, I just returned from northern california where my family resides and got the fever to ride again. Now I'm older and more established, and somehow, the cards had it that I would find a pristine ducati 999 in ducati red that the owner has babied all it's life. Dug up all my old leathers and gear. Went down to cycle gear for a new shoei helmet (old one was destroyed in the wreck--anyone who says kbc won't save your life I beg to differ.) Picked up a dainese mesh while I was at it, and went to the bank to withdraw the money that would be used to purchase the beautiful bike I visited yesterday. Now I have this beautiful machine in my garage. No pics yet. Only problem: I have not ridden in 6 years. Never thought I would again. I have no intention of riding in the city--I promised myself and family that I would only ride outskirts and canyons, and eventually get down to the track. I'm looking for mature riders to ride with. Guys that will help me get back on the horse so to speak. I don't want to hang with the stunter wreckless crowd I did back when I was in my early 20's. I'm pushing 30 now, and want to ride for the sport and enjoyment, and eventually push it hard on the track. ![]() Please tell me I've found the right place. Let me know? I saw a ride coming up this weekend, but I've gotta get registration and insurance first. Thanks for reading. Last edited by Agent0range; 07-13-2011 at 11:03 PM. |

Thanks... As you can tell it's after 1 AM and I can't sleep now. I've been poking around your site and it seems like a great group of people come here. Take it easy on me when I come out. Still quite timid, although once upon a time it wasn't unreasonable to see me doing alot of illegal things with my old gixxer. (not those things!)

| Quote: I can 2nd that what Eric said about responsible group of riders to help you along the way. However, you should consider taking the Experienced Rider Course at CSN for $60 as a refresher course, it's only one day. If you already have your Motorcycle endorsement, there is no testing, just go out and have some fun, you use your own bike. In the event you need one, they can test you so you can get your M endorsment. Either way, you will also save money on your insurance, since it's considered a safety course and most companies will offer anywhere frome 10-30% off. Also 15% off at CycleGear showing your completion card! Yes, you can get your 15% off for the stuff you just bought, it's retroactive up to 30 days.

I actually took the motorcycle safety course a couple of months before my wreck, but not sure if I took the experienced one or not. I was required to take it to ride at Nellis AFB. I have the M endorsement--isn't illegal to ride without it? I'd like to take the course again anyway. The one I took at Nellis they provided ninja 250s. |

Welcome to the forum and to being back up on 2wheels. I chose the username Fallen, because I too know what its like to take a hard hit. Its a little reminder to myself to ride within my skill level and to try to be on my A-Game everytime I start my bike. When I was younger I totalled a bike and ended up climbing out from under an on coming car. I also concider this one of the Luckiest Days of my life. Though some might think of an accident negativley, I still try to concider it as a positive. I get a second chance to get it right and to live life. If riding is in your blood its just something you gotta do. Its no different from a surfer surviving a shark attack and then getting back into the water. Just know your limitations, work up to your comfort levels and you should be fine. Also there's a common saying amoung riders "Ride your own ride." This is good advice. If you're focused on what the rider in front of you is doing, you're not paying enough attention to what you should be doing yourself. And in doing so target fixation, corners and stops will sneak up on you quickly. Just take your time and set your own pace. Best of luck out there and enjoy your new bike.

Welcome to the site. Love to see you come out and ride with us. We are not the typical, chip on our shoulders, ego driven riders. Most of us have been riding for a long time and intend to ride for much longer. Cruise around the site and then come hang out with us.

Thanks, this definitely looks like the group I want to ride with. Unfortunately the upcoming Experienced Rider's Courses are when I'm out of town. I took the bike out today since it's insured now for a quick around the neighborhood ride. It comes back pretty quick. I'm a financial advisor so I will be in and out of town on business for the rest of this month, but will definitely join for a ride soon. |

Ghostowl sounds like you and I are about the same age, and have had similar experiences. I think on the first ride I make it out to I'll try to hang back with you (V-twins taking it a little easy) The RC51 is a sweet ride. I actually found one in Nor Cal and was pretty tempted, but didn't know how I would get it back down here. I think fate brought me to my duc. I've actually been riding around this whole weekend getting my riding legs back. I haven't made it up to red rock yet, but have been riding around summerlin and rode to church this morning lol. Oh hey by the way a guy came up to me at the summerlin starbucks on west charleston this morning and said he's got a 999s in black for sale with 6K on the odo and he wants 11K for it. In case anyone is interested, I have his number. Last edited by Agent0range; 07-17-2011 at 10:39 AM. |
