So I was riding from my house down to Red Rock (the casino) and on the 215 there was a red rock (the canyon) park ranger. I slowed down just to be safe, but do they have any authority to pull people over and ticket them when they're outside the national park?

Im gonna say No they don't have authority to pull you over. But that's not to say they wouldn't pull you over if they caught you doing something terribly wrong.

Hell Yeah!!!!!!!!!They are Federal Employees and commissioned police officers. They can pull you over, cite you, and arrest you just like any other law enforcement official. So, good move on slowing down.

I don't think he could pull you over for speeding or anything like that, although I could be wrong. last year I was on 215 heading home one night, not paying attention and I guess I got up to 95mph in my truck.....and I got pulled over by a Taxi Cab authority officer, he gave me a lecture but no ticket, not sure if he could have given me one. I think he was just pissed because I disrespected his being an officer of something by flying past him instead of staying behind him in fear like a good little sheeple | |

| You're prolly right. Or that can at least detain you until back up arrive with the proper authority. It would be a super dick move for a ranger to pull you over on the 215, that's the highway patrols job. But I supose it's possible.

Just the other day on my way home from work going down the 215 westbound, I zipped passed a Clark County School Police cruiser going about 15 over indicated, which in reality more like 8 over so 72ish in a 65. But he was only going about 55-60 max. By the time I got to the Durango curve, he was so far back along with the rest of the chicken drivers that were scared to pass a cop, that I couldn't see them anymore in my mirrors. But an interesting thought about who has jurisdiction in what areas. Not just Rangers, but Marshals, School Police, Taxi Cab, US Postal, etc. I occasionally see CHP cruisers on the I-15 heading back to Califronia from Vegas. Not sure why they were here from the first place. Maybe they had to go to court.

Some BLM Rangers can issue federal, state, and/or County tickets. But the reality of the situation. They may pull you over give you and rip into you then let you go. Unless they are specifically authorized to enforce state and local laws, or have a Nevada Peace Officers Certification, they dont have the authority to issue citations. The best they could do is call metro or NHP and have them issue the citation.

My dad got a ticket in his car about 3 weeks ago from a ranger on 215. The ranger said he is a federal police officer and he can write someone a ticket anywhere in the united states.

| He is right. Federal officers, in this case Park Rangers, have jurisdiction any where in the United States. Much like FBI agents, DEA or ATF. They are commissioned police officers as well. Just because NHP patrols the highways doesn't mean Metro can't issue a ticket on the freeway. Metro has jurisdiction in ALL of Clark County. So Park Rangers, as Federal Employees, have jurisdiction anywhere in the United States.

I can see that happening. Absolute Power currups and that's why there should always be jurisdictions. That kind of power would go straight to some peoples heads. And again it would be a total dick move for a ranger to ticket someone on the 215, but some rangers are a little overzealous. For example the only time I've ever had LE draw down on me was a Red Rock Ranger. The Ranger kinda reminds me of Farva from Super Troopers....way over the top.

I saw on Fox5news one time that all the law enforcement agencies in the area have an easement opening all lines of jurisdiction.

| Quote: This became an issue in denver on red-light cameras writing tickets... most were dismissed because you could not proove who was driving. Then they changed it to the camera had to see your face in the picture... they later changed the legislature to say it doesnt matter who was driving, the registered owner gets the ticket. The problem with this law is that, especially if you have a unique bike (such as myself) or unique gear or something that does stand out more, you are FAR more likely to get nic'd by that same officer on something stupid like weaving (everyone, bike and cage, weaves to a certain extent - and cops have flat out told me if they want to get someone or need to hit a quota, weaving it is) and they will try and go for any other low hanging, hard to disproove fruit to tack on (ask how i know this). my thoughts... if your gonna do it, dont be a whiney bitch about it if you get caught. Otherwise, dont F around on the streets! Which brings me to my next point... in a new thread. Just my $0.02 though. - Justin

Weaving? A motorcycle is entitled to have full use of their lane. NRS486.341 As long as you stay within your lane, weaving or swerving is perfectly legal. We have reasons to do it, from warming up your tires or simply applying the smidgy technique to make yourself more visible. Motorcycles cannot be ridden with the same mentality as driving a car. That would get you killed. Yes, the rules and laws are the same for bikes and Cars for the most part. that's what makes riding out on the streets so challenging.

at least was the case in colorado but I can only imagine that it isnt too far off from that here also. my thoughts are, again, that do as you will, but dont bitch about it if you get popped. dont wanna get popped, dont break the law. I have been nailed and ticketed many times and every single time (except one) I deserved it. - Justin

As far speeding and as long you are not on federal land, most speeding tickets can be reduced to a parking violation here in Vegas. Nobody pays speeding tickets here inVegas unless you want to. We would have no limo and taxi drivers if this kind of fixing were not allowed.
