Ok so after a citation of statutes in the ranger thread, I got to reading through the NRS RE: motorcycles and stumbled across some things that raise a slight bit of concern for me. I have a pair of dirtbikes. Both came exactly as such from the factory. One old and one new-ish. I had both bikes inspected/titled and plated in colorado. To do so in colorado, the only requirements were these: - DOT rated rubber - One mirror - headlight - tail light - brake light - reflectors - horn or noise making device however, scanning through the regs for nevada, it says that mirrors need to be one on each side and at least 3 inches. well this is not the case for ANY of my bikes except the superhawk. my brutie has 2 mirrors, but both are 1.5" mirrors. the dirtbikes each have one 2" mirror. Further more, it states that blinkers are REQUIRED for all motorcycles. This was not a requirement in Colorado as hand signals were legal substitues. any of this going to cause me issues? I have not VIN checked or plated my dirtbikes here in NV yet but I do have the brutie and hawk done. The issues that does arise is mainly the blinkers. On my newer bike, not an issue, I can install. My older bike is an 84 IT490 with an AC system, that has been converted to DC using regularos/rectifiers and capacitor packs instead of batteries and Im not sure that they can handle the load that a flasher would put on them. anyone that has done a DOT conversion got any ideas? I dont generally ride these on the streets but sometimes its fun to go piss off all the cagers with em so i dont wanna loose the ability to do so. - Justin

You will need two mirror and yes, 3" in diameter. otherwise it will become a reason to pull you over and become a fix it ticket along with any other violations they can come up with. You must also have reflectors, passenger foot pegs and seat if your planning on riding two up. As far as blinkers, you might be able to get away without having them during the day but don't quote me on that one. Anyways, I'm glad to see that some riders have taken the initiative and actually reading up on the states motorcycle laws, as they will differ from state to state. Can you believe here in Nevada, a trike is considered a car? No endorsement or helmet needed.

as far as the trike, that is funny because in Colorado, anything less than 4 wheel is considered a motorcycle. Even that retarded T-rex side-by-side thing is considered a motorcycle in colorado... even though it is more of a car than a lot of cars i see. lol. so the reflectors are not an issue for me. Oddly i did not see anything about DOT tires but that may be buried somewhere in general road worthiness laws, I dont plan to ride much, if at all, at night and no one in a cage here uses blinkers anyway. Apparently they made nevada specific versions of everything that were not equipped with turn signals... On the tire thing, Im not sure that non-DOT rubber would last very long with this heat on the pavement. Dirt rubber is not super expensive but when you start replacing 2-4 sets a season, it adds up i guess. What about OHV? I was told nothing needed in terms of registrations (no OHV tags/stickers) for nevada, but what about spark arrestors? My d-bikes all have spark arrestors but My quad does not (ninja-250 motor in it) - mainly because i just have not gotten around to buying them yet. needed? And, not concerned about pax pegs - only person that would be getting on the back of mine is the wifey and she has her own litre bike.... - Justin
