Thanks to all you people who helped me out after I did my lowside, one hell of a first experience. I owe you all a beer, between the advice, comfort, clutch, gear shifting, waiting, and following me to make sure I was ok, I really appreciate it. Ill make do on my promise after I get the bike up and running again

No problem man... we've pretty much all been there before. A new clutch lever, shifter, and a set of decent tires and you'll be all good!

How's your shoulder feeling now?

Didn't I tell you to go slow? At least you're okay though. Bikes can be replaced or repaired. And aren't you glad you had gear? Nothing to do now but get back up on the horse, a more experienced rider.

I'm not trying to make any Innuendos, but just because you crashed Headlong into the asphalt after Riding the Wild Wind, perhaps because your Jealousy of the others' speed (thats right, You Don't Fool Me), instead of just saying I Don't Need You; don't feel like you're not in Good Company. It must have been rough, and I wouldn't doubt as you were going down it felt like you were having a Sheer Heart Attack. Just remember next time, it's not a Bicycle Race, just worry about Keeping Yourself Alive, instead of rushing through and praying to Jesus, "Save Me." After all, No One But You has to worry about your bike and yourself Doing Alright. Because it's the person who tries to keep up and wipes out that's the real Loser In The End because their bike will be Nevermore. And while you may be saying See What a Fool I've Been and Say It's Not True, you'll be ready to Tear It Up in Red Rock in no time, as long as you keep the Flick Of The Wrists under control through turns. Being a motorcyclist sometimes seems like A Hard Life and you may feel like you're Going Slightly Mad, but in the end it's worth it once you Spread Your Wings. Today you can safely say "My Life Has Been Saved" and tomorrow is another Beautiful Day. And although you haven't been hanging out with us that long, In Only 7 Days you've made some friends. And Friends Will Be Friends and, if I may speak on behalf of SCS, We Believe in you. So if you're ever in need Call Me because I know your Time to Shine is coming... that is, as long as you Don't Try So Hard.

I guarantee I've forgotten more about Queen than you will ever know. And what do you know about Queen? You grew up with the music of the 90's. I can name every Queen album ever made in chronological order off the top of my head. And Every November 24th I wear a black arm band (who's using Google now, Bi-atch!!)

It's "A Kind Of Magic" and it wasn't Freddy's last. Innuendo was the last studio album he worked on live, and the music videos show his obvious deterioration. Althought "Made in Heaven" was released by Queen in 1995 I wanna say, four years after his death. It used clips from previously unfinished songs and the rest of the band filled in. And then in 2008 Queen came back with Paul Rogers to release their Cosmos Rockin'

I guess if there was ever a spot to go down during a ride, RR is the spot to do it. It's very forgiving, meaning you don't have oncoming traffic to deal with in the event you go wide in a turn or worrying about hitting guardrails. You also have the luxury of counting on the good people on this forum to help you, instead of calling a tow truck and figuring out how to get yourself back home.

No guard rails, just drop offs into cactus. Red Rock is NOT a forgiving place to crash. The only place I would even consider "forgiving" is the track.

+1. I know from track experience The track has no traffic either and plenty of run off. If I would have wrecked the same way I did at RR as I did at the track I would have ended up at the bottom of one of those drop offs. And my bike would have been totaled.

I don't have hard numbers on this, but based on my experience, this is how I see some of our typical riding areas vs accidents requiring ambulance or leading to serious injury/death.

Ordered from worst to best.

1- City streets
2- Lake Mead
3- Red Rock
4- Track

So, in my opinion, if riding outside the track, Red Rock is the most forgiving place.
We see crashes in there all the time, and typically they ride out, some cases the bike needs to be towed out, but very rarely is the rider seriously injured or requires an ambulance to come pick them up.

At the Lake, the high rate of speeds is typically what contributes to serious injuries or death, as a mistake will result in you being launched off-road onto rocks and other bad stuff.

And on the streets, well, there are plenty of road hazards for you to plow onto, or cause you to lose control of your bike, plus moving road hazards that will plow onto you as well.

And the track...very rarely are there any mild/serious physical injuries, and often the riders are simply bummed more than anything.

In ALL riding areas I mentioned, the rider is typically (oh so close to 100%) at fault, and the root cause of the accident.

You really need to get out more and ride besides RR and LM and you will see RR is very forgiving, It's one way for christ sakes, you're not restricted to one side of the road.

Yes, track is the most forgiving but that's totally different, were talking about public streets.

Fred had a great post, and agrees with me as well. But we all have our opinions.

Funny Kenny, I haven't seen you on any of the Red Rock rides. And I think you forget I lived in SoCal with my bike, so yes I'm very familair with other roads. Also, I'm pretty sure I've been riding Red Rock longer than you've had a bike.

Yeah, you haven't, no need to waste my time going on those useless RR rides when you can go these Epic Roads in California, which is why I'm kind of surprised that you think RR is difficult you being from California. Cal Hwy 108 Sonora Pass, very technical road with a 25% grade, two lanes of traffic on a road the same width or smaller than RR. Also one of the few roads I have been on that never had any corner signs, showing what lies ahead and what your recommended speed should be.

25% Grade

Now the speeds on this pass is very difficult to get past 50, put roads such as Montezuma Valley Road going down to Borrengo Springs which you probably know very well where there are long sweepers where you can take it much faster is knuckle breaking as there are shear cliffs, guardrails or just plain solid rock wall. These two roads that I just mentioned, no comparison to RR.

Don't get me wrong, RR is great. Meaning that it's a great way to introduce new riders and seasoned riders to corner, improve on their lines, entry points, throttle control and head turns. Eventually, it's time to move on to greater things, and they are found in the great state of California. And recently discovered Southern Oregon.

I never said RR was difficult. But when comes to crashing, I guess I should just leave it to the expert.

You have a point there, if you never ride, you definatley keep that risk level low. I put on a new pair of the Michellin Pures in May, and already have logged 10,000 miles which included rain, mud and gravel. Damn forest roads!
