It's good to be back from Texas, for good this time. Some of you remember me, or at least the name Gleno came up with back in the day. Now all I need is a bike, I'll will be looking around. |

I'll be looking for a bike with a more upright profile that can handle that trip comfortably. I have nothing against the aggressive riding profile of a pure sportsbike, but I see the people who make the trip to or from California on one. It's hilarious to see them standing on their pegs with their sore rear-ends sticking in the air for the last 200 miles of the trip. So that just won't work out. So, given all that, I'm thinking: * Yamaha FZ1 or FZ6. I've always liked Pat's Fizzer. He beat me two times racing his at the LV Motor Speedway drag strip nights. I've always had a secret thing for his naked and modded 1000CC Yamaha blue lady. The old-school silver engine color looks sexier with the Yamaha blue color than the black powdercoat of the newer models, so I'd have to look for an 05 or earlier most likely. Problem is, my dad rides an FZ6, and I'm not sure if I want to ride the same bike as the old man. * Suzuki bandits are insanely fun to ride. I also love the sleek trim looks of the black GSX1250FA, it's an absolute work of art. I could definitely see myself on one. * Bottom line though, my idea of a dream girl would be a Ducati, a 696 or 796. There's something sexy and exotic about the European ladies. Maybe it's the trellis frame or the growl of their V-twin engines, whatever it is, I want one someday. I'll be saving my pennies for awhile, but she will be worth the wait. If I missed out on something, let me know. |

Welcome back Mr. Flounder. Eric already beat me to it...Pat's FZ1, the very one you were speaking of, is for sale. As far as I know, he still has it up for sale, so I'd grab it up if I were you. :)

+1 on Pat's FZ1... and Kenny will swear by his FZ6... so you're in the right neighborhood...

Kenny does more miles on his friggin' FZ6 in 6 months than I do in my F150 in a year!!! LOL He goes up to friggin' Oregon and Washington and back and such all of the time. He would definitely be the one to ask about "iron butt" riding on a sportbike touring model type bike.

I have a Throttlemeister and use my sliders as highway pegs where I can stretch my legs forward and ride like I'm on a cruiser. Very comfortable. I like the big gas tank that it comes with too, over 5 gallons and I get almsot 60 on the highway, I usually get well over 200 on one tank just riding in the city. I actually can ride to LA from Vegas without even filling up. Most other riders have to fill up in Baker, Barstow or both. Waste a lot of time stopping for fuel. As far as maintenance, all I have spent on unscheduled maintenance was $400 on a steering head bearing replacement and forks upgrade. Otherwise, just oil and tires and one spark plug change at 20k, so yes over 50k on this set. I have over 71k, not bad for $7000 OTD and only the steering head bearing issue. If you consider the FZ1, you won't get nearly the fuel economy or range. Of course if money is no object, the utlimate riding machine would be the new Ducati Multistrada.

If you buy Pat's FZ1, ask him if he will toss in a free ceiling fan.
