POST UP YOUR "OK'S"

Here is the update:

LAS VEGAS - Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating two separate, serious motorcycle accidents.

The first occurred near Blue Diamond Road and Rainbow Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday night. Police say two cars, a Nissan and a Mitsubishi, were traveling westbound on Blue Diamond.

The Mitsubishi attempted a U-turn in front of the Nissan, causing the Nissan to strike the vehicle. The Nissan pulled over to the side of the road after the accident. The Mitsubishi remained on the road.

A short time later, a Kawasaki motorcycle - traveling westbound on Blue Diamond - struck the Mitsubishi. The rider of the motorcycle was ejected. He was transported to University Medical Center where he later died. Police say it is unclear how fast the motorcycle was traveling at the time of the accident.

The second accident occurred a short time later on southbound Interstate 15 near Flamingo Road.

NHP says the rider was traveling at least 100 mph and attempting a wheelie when he struck a metal barrier. He was hospitalized in critical condition.

I feel bad for the Kawi rider and may he RIP...

However, I must be the only one that doesn't feel bad for the moron going over 100+ mph, doing a wheelie on an on ramp to a freeway and then going down. No offense, but he got what he deserved. There is a time and place to do stunting and on a freeway at 100+ mph is NOT it. I don't feel bad for him at all to be honest. If he didn't act like an idiot in the first place, then he and his family wouldn't be in the position that they are in now.

And we all wonder why most non-riding people think all of us motorcyclists are morons, do bad things and are bad characters?! That rider is a perfect example as to why. Because that is ALL the non-riding people see. They don't see the good things that we do (such as the safe rides SCS does or the highway clean up that SCS does for the community and such). They just see this crap on the news/internet

Again, I feel bad for the riders that are truly unfortunate and get into accidents or have something happen to them by no fault of their own. However, not for the riders that bring it upon themselves by doing something stupid such as the second accident victim.

Some people just like to learn the hard way. Yes, I agree, there is a time and place to do it, and that is in a controlled enironment, off public streets and with no other vehicles. Not on the on ramp going 100 plus on the freeway.

Let's not let that Kawi rider die for nothing, he's reminding us all how important it is to look well ahead. We discuss this in the MSF, it's your Rider Radar and you always want to be looking well ahead, up to 12 seconds so you can see something happen before it becomes immediate! And don't ride looking down, keep your head and eyes up.

well said. keeping the eyes up and your head on a swivel is so important..always have an "out" in mind. Ride your ride. Ride within your limits. Pushing it is for the track.
