Just an FYI. Anyone with more than 2 years riding expirence who is interested in becoming a RiderCoach the class is in March. It is a somewhat lengthy process to get into the class so if your interested please contact me and I can help get you on the right path. The class is going to be 7 days long, Monday March 12- Sunday 18, 2012 and costs $100. You must be in class all 7 days to pass so not only do you have to get accepted, you must be able to take off that time from work. We're in need of good coaches as the dropout rate has been extremely high the last few classes.

Yes, you must have no more than two points on your license. The drop out rate is very high, they usually can't make 7 straigt days, 10 hours a day.

But the benefits are great, 30% discount at Cycle Gear. You can get most gear at dealer cost from a lot of vendors, including Sidi Boots, Helmets, etc.

You would become part of an elite group of professional riders. There are less than 100 certified motorcycle instructors here in this state, and your certification would be recognized nationally. Your certification would be good for two years, then you have to go through another recertifcation process but nothing like what it took to get it initially. Of course you as a rider would have to ride responsibly with the proper safety gear, you have to set a higher standard than the rest. You must practice what you preach.

You won't get rich at it, 20 hours in 2.5 days is the typical time spent. But it's enough to pay for the upkeep for your bike.

Wanna know what you get paid, depends on where you teach. CSN, $275 per class; Harley Davidson, $21 an hour I believe; cycle school $400 per class, my school when it's up an running, at least $400 per class. There are some exceptions to this, those are for BRC classes, ERC classes are different pay for obvious reasons. The good thing about being a RiderCoach, you can actually teach at all schools and get paid by everyone. You must teach at least 2 classes every two years to maintain your license. Although I do agree with Kenny that you should set the standard, it is NOT a requirement to wear all gear all the time to be a Ridercoach, just to be legal.. Just an FYI

What is the ratio of range time vs. classroom time? Must we provide our own bike?

There is a professional code of conduct that the MSF requires, so yes, you have to wear gear. The amount and type of gear is open to interpretation.

If you teach the ERC, then yes, you use your bike. If it's the BRC, you use the training bikes. Ratio between Range and Classroom, about 7.5 hours in the classroom and about 12 hours on the range for the BRC.

Sign me up too! I've wondered how hard it'd be to become a coach, and now I know. Good 'ol Air Force will let me take leave that week, so I'll be good for it. PM'd you as well Howie B.

First thing to do is e-mail Mr Ken Kiphart @ kkiphart@dps.state.nv.us and tell him your interested in becoming a RiderCoach. You can tell him Howard Brown sent you his way if you wish. Keep in mind you must hold an M endorcement for a min of 2 years and pretty much clean driving record, which will be verified. Contact me @ 283-7829 and I will be glad to help prepare you for the class once you've been accepted. It isn't a very difficult class, but it can be made that much easier if you are well prepared, just sayin!!! ;)

Generally there is only 1 class a year, which is almost always in March following the RiderCoach update class. So it's pretty much a one time shot on a yearly basis.
