I Ride: '03 Ninja 250
Hi everyone,

I've been reading the forums for a few months now, but hadn't posted anything since I don't own a bike.

Some info about me. I took the Riders Edge Course and got the "M" endorsement back in 2001, but never really owned or rode a bike since then. Three weeks ago, I took the MSF class at CSN again. This was a great idea because, it turns out I had forgotten almost everything!

Flash forward to now... I will soon be getting me a good, affordable 250cc beginners bike. I don't know if it will be a Ninja 250 or a Virago 250, but I will be riding it daily for a few months (Yes, I know I will hate 250cc soon after I get it). But once I get used to riding a motorcycle, I will upgrade to a better bike!

But, still I wanted to say harro!

I agree with Tread. You're doing the right thing by getting a 250 first. Too many people jump on something too big for them for a first bike. I congratulate you for taking the course a second time just to make sure you have the basics down pat to ride.

We need more people like you starting out with riding bikes.

Enjoy the forum, welcome to the addiction and hope to ride with you soon.

Take care...

Both are great bike choices. Honda also released a 250 that looks pretty good. If you don't plan on keeping the 250 for a long time, you might want to factor in the ease to resell it. Welcome to the site!

Werd.

Smart way of learning with the 250. I can't tell you how many squids try and learn on a liter bike and regret it.

AWWW YEAH! Another 250! Welcome to the club. Luckily this group concerns itself more with skill than blatant speed. Sure going fast in a straight line is cool, but crashing as soon as you try to turn isn't, and getting a 250 is just about the best way to learn about turning.

And if you're riding it everyday for a month (or more) it'll have the power you need to get around town, and it'll get amazing gas mileage. And I don't know about you, but I've had mine for 5 months tomorrow, and I'm still learning. So you just gotta give yourself time.

Welcome, I'm curious if there were any difference between the Harley BRC and CSN's? Besides the price of course and being one day shorter.

I was originally thinking about buying a 600-750cc bike. But, after I saw some of the horror stories, and watched some newbie crash videos on YouTube, I figured a 250cc would be a good place to start.

I saw the CRB250!! That's one sweet looking bike, plus it is fuel injected, which is a huge plus! I just don't want to buy a new bike and then drop it, and weep. And since its a new model in the market, it wouldn't be one of the cheaper bikes.

True dat! I'd rather learn getting out of situations with sharper riding skills than just brute power. I feel that starting with a 250 will make me a better and safer rider.

You've only had yours for 5 months? Wow... I figured it was more like a year since you have ridden your bike more than 10,000 miles! Congratulations!

So, here's a question. How do you keep up with the bigger bikes on rides?

Back in 2001, the Riders Edge course was only 2 days, and it cost just under $200. Of course they had extra bells and whistles; They took our pictures on bikes in the showroom, fed us, and gave us a certificate to hang as well (Plus, students also got something like 10-20% discount the days of the classes). Generally speaking, the exercises and the training was similar. As a matter of fact, while I was driving by I would see one of my instructors at C(C)SN Henderson Campus. Though, it seemed that the instructors were a little more lenient during the test at the end of the class. Even though the class was doing great during the practices, only two of the students "really" did great during the tests. The rest of us had test anxiety.

I hear that these days their classes cost $300+, but its also 3 days. I put that in quotes because apparently the first day they talk about motorcycles to familiarize you with its components. They even have a real motorcycle in the class (we didn't have one).

He dosent we pull over after we don't see him for awile and wait for him haha jk Matt, the 250 keeps up just fine also because we don't go allout and overboard on the streets we save that for the track days, when were out its to just have a little fun and all be together on runs, that sounded a little gay haha.

You smile and wave as they pass you, then honk as they're walking their bikes around the corner because they can't turn.

That would be true if your bike doesn't keep stalling 5 feet above sea level!

Our rides, though usually spirited, aren't always drag races between stop lights. In Red Rock, we speed up through certain parts and cruise slowly through others. Though the general misconception is that all sport bike clubs haul ass everywhere. You will find that even though there are many experienced riders and much more powerful bikes in the group, SCS is about enjoying the experience of riding and helping others discover that experience as well, safely. Everyone rides there own ride. No pressure to go hauling ass down the street. You may even find that some of the more docile riders out on the the street, are freaking speed demons on the track.
