In Orange County yesterday the rangers started a so-called controlled burn. Unfortunately the Santa Ana winds that were present at the time quickly took over the fire that has burned over3500 acreas and has caused the evacuation of over 1500 homes and it is only 7% contained. I guess they have a hard time learning from past mistakes, if you recalled a few years back they did the same thing in New Mexico, hopefully this fire doesn't get as big as that fire did. Maybe somebody can help me understand why you would start a forest fire in high winds, how can that be a good thing, and what donkey's ass thinks they can control that. Who is more wreckless; them playing with matches or us playing on the loop at RR?

I was a firefighter for years...we did several controlled burn. There is a trained way to do this without letting it get out of controll...A windy day is the first clue to halt the operation... geez

That's what I thought too. You'd think that Ca. rangers would know better being they have so many fires due to an abundance of dry underbrush and windy conditions. Now the firefighters have risk there lives to clean up the rangers screw up.

Ive never known a ranger dept. to be able to do a controlled burn without fire dept assistance. We train several days and hours for wild land suppression...that pretty messed up.

Maybe Ca is different, I remember one time I was up in the Laguna moutains east of San Diego, and we seen a fire burning. Nobody was around, and no signs were posted. So we sent one of our buddies to call the fire dept. The rest us tried to put out the fire. When the ranger showed up, he started chewing our ass for putting out their fire. I seen controlled burns in Yosemite with nobody out monitoring it.

Rangers and sportbikes have been a hot topic lately, if you haven't noticed. That is why I posted here for a general comparison between our wrecklessness and there's. Some might find this topic interesting, you two obviously don't, (VegasEric and JWD). If it's posted in the wrong place, tell me where it belongs. If, in your expert opinions this topic is inappropiate, again educate me, but show some courtesy and save the insults for someone that you know a little better.

If this thread had something to do with the BLM Rangers that patrol RR, VoF, and LM, I could see the relevance. It doesn't. No one made any insults that I can see, just general comments on the appropriateness of this and other misplaced threads.

FWIW, I do find the topic interesting. I just can't make the connection to LE at RR. Since the thread was intended to prompt a sportbike-related discussion, how about we get it back on topic.

LE screws the pooch on a regular basis. How do their mistakes have a bearing on whether or not we should get jammed up for speeding on public highways? If you know what the speed limit is in a particular area, and you exceed it, don't complain when you get a ticket. We can only speculate on the consequences that the person will face who decided to attempt a "controlled burn" in Santa Ana.

I rarely take leisurely rides through RR. And even though it may send a positive message to the public, I feel somewhat hypocritical in taking part in a group ride to promote sportbike awareness at my preferred, non-track place to scrub tires in. I personally know of at least three riders who have had high-speed crashes at RR, one of which ended up in the UMC Trauma Center. None of these riders were squids or inexperienced riders. And I don't think any of them thought they were being "reckless" at the time of their accident. And riders continue to turf their bikes on a weekly basis at all of our preferred riding spots. We need to understand that we take a huge physical and financial risk when we decide to make a public road our own personal road course.

If you don't speed, you will have absolutely nothing to worry about. I have yet to hear about a rider getting hassled for no good reason. If you don't park in the areas at the overlook that say "NO PARKING", you're cool. If you get caught going 90 dragging knee around that long right hander at around the 10 mile mark in the loop, you might get fucked. With no lube.

I stand by my previous post. If this post is in the wrong place, move it, if you find it irrelevant delete it.

You made the connection to sportbikes in your response. I was merely attempting to steer this conversation back to the subject of sportbikes. I have no reason to move/delete it.

I think when Vegaseric, JWD, myself and possibly everyone else first read the subject "Ranger's F'd up", we assumed you were talkin' about the park rangers @ RR, VOL, Lake Mead because it was in the Sportbike General Discussion forum. I'm not saying that your post was irrelavent, but it should have been posted in the "General Disscussion" forum. No offense! And you're right they f'd up!

Thanks Steel, your's is the response I was looking for. You pointed out a mistake and offered a remedy to correct it. In other words, constructive criticism instead of just criticism. I'll be more careful in the future what and wear I post. Lol
