Hey all,

Just wanted to let you all know that it's going to be a while before I'm back on my bike.

As some of you know, I somehow screwed up my back while moving my family from one house to another on 5/26.

Well, after much pain over the past couple of weeks, the doctor did X-rays last week on my back and they came to the determination that it appears that one of my vertebra has "slid" forward just a touch. He didn't state how far or anything like that. However, they had me take two more "oblique" X-rays today to confirm this and to get a clearer view of the situation. That would explain why I'm in so much pain and it's not going away even though I've been doing everything they have told me to do.

So, I have no clue when I'll be well enough to ride my bike again. At this point I can barely sit down in a normal chair, let alone ride an R1. Worse yet, since I got off unemployment earlier this month and worked my new job 1 week before this happened, I'm not collecting any type of money while I've been down. That's the hardest part about all of this. My job doesn't pay me any type of sick pay. So, I'm not sure what to do. I don't know if my job were to fire me, if I could then re-file for unemployment or not or would I be still screwed AND not have a job to go back to once I'm better. I know I can't just quit my job (after a notice) and collect unemployment because they don't pay when you quit. So, right now I'm really screwed and have no money coming in. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Not good. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, please let me know. I may call unemployment tomorrow and explain what happened and see what they say. I don't know what else to do at this point.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know what is going on and why I won't be on any rides for a while.

Enjoy one for me!

LOL I'm sure you would.

Well, the bad thing is, the plates are due near the end of this month. I'm not going to have the money. So, I'm actually going to have to file it "non-op" with the DMV so I don't have to pay the $125 in registration fees because I can't afford it.

Then when I can afford it, I'll have to go to the DMV and pay the registration fees so I can ride it again. However, I don't know if that means if I have to turn in my personalized plate or not. If so, I'm gonna be super pissed off.

Sorry to hear about your back. I can sympathize with you as I know that feeling all too well. I've had 3 knee surguries, 2 reconstructed elbows, my lower back from L1 - L5 is jacked up and from C2 - C4 in the neck. It just takes time to heal. If you need any help maintaining your personal plates just let me know.

That sucks some big fat donkey balls!

Also... Tom you stole my joke! I was gonna offer to keep the R1 in shape by whipping it through Red Rock every now and then...

But I hope you get better soon... and I wish I was a doctor already. Anyways, let me know if there's anything I can do.

There is no reason why they would deny you un-employment. That’s what it’s there for. You lose your job unintentionally or your hurt. Too bad you couldn’t say you were injured at work!!!! nice little comp pay. :-)

Thanks guys...I appreciate it.

Well, I have a call into unemployment. Waiting for them to call me back so I can go over everything. I'm going to recall them tomorrow.

Tom - I did get your call today but was in too much pain to call you back. I was really sleeping mostly today. Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude. I'll give you a call tomorrow. I appreciate the call, bro.

I'll let you guys know what they say. Hopefully it will be something good. I really hate to have my job "fire" me just to get unemployment because it can really screw me later for background investigations, but if that's what I have to have happen so that I can pay bills now, then that's what I have to do.

Can your slipped? disk be treated by a chiropractor? I have no idea of your diagnosis so a chiropractor may not be appropriate but if it is they can offer amazing relief. A lot of people laugh then off but I swear by it. One or two adjustments once in a while (not the three times a week for six months crap) keeps me functioning. Just a thought and I hope you do get better soon whatever treatment you use.

I appreciate the info. I don't know if my moved vertebrea is considered a "slipped disc" or not. I truly don't know what a slipped disc is, to be honest with you. I just know that the doctor never mentioned slipped disc at all, but I have heard people talk about slipped discs all the time. So, I don't know if that's what it is or not. I have to go back to the doctor next week to see what the second set of X-rays revealed. I will also talk to them about the chiropractor option and see if that will help me or if I have to go to physical therapy or what.

Hopefully they will give you good news. I've been fortunate enough to never really cause serious injury to my back, but there are times when it does hurt like hell and therapy, ice, pills, etc. just don't work. I've learned to call my chiropractor and after a visit or two I am on the road to recovery.

Of course if y xrays//MRI show serious injury then be cautious how you take care of it. Otherwise you might find help with a legitimate chiropractor. I know a good one in south Henderson 95/horizon area. Good luck.

Thanks! I appreciate the good luck.

However, I'm on the road to recovery now. Yesterday I was bending over a box on the floor looking for a pencil sharpener for my son and I felt my back pop when I moved. I was like, "Uh-oh!" However, I think things popped back into place instead of more out of place. The sharp pains have now gone away and my back feels much better than it has the past 4 weeks. I'm not on any pain meds at all and I can walk around just fine and can even bend over just fine now. Of course I'm not picking anything up or anything and I'm still a bit stiff and have to be careful how I move in certain directions, but that might be because I haven't moved all that much in the past 4 weeks. That might just take time.

So, the good thing is, in a little while I might actually be back on the bike. However, the bad thing is, my bike plates are due on the 26th and since i've been out of work, I'll have to wait to renew them. Soooo, it might still be a bit before I can ride.

But the good thing is, I did secure a desk job (IT job that I've been hoping for) that I start on this Monday. So, as soon as I can pay for the plates, I'll do so and then maybe I can make a ride again soon.

As a side note, the security job I worked 1 week before my back went out, "asked" (if that's what you want to call it) me to give them a "medical resignation" until my back was better and I was medically cleared to come back. They couldn't hold my position with the company any longer.

Sounds like a "do it yourself" chiropractic adjustment did the trick. Too bad you had to suffer so long, miss work, etc. any job is a good one right now but that one sounded crappy anyway.

My $.02 ... I love my inversion table. Helps me out greatly. Five minutes a day really makes a difference.

I might have to check into that. That's two of you that suggested an inversion table. :)
