Cities POSTED: 10:43 am CST February 9, 2006 UPDATED: 10:32 pm CST February 9, 2006 FORT WORTH, Texas -- William Marshall Storey led police from multiple cities and the NBC 5 Chopper 5 on a high-speed chase Thursday, officials said. The motorcycle driver reached speeds of 140 mph while driving through Fort Worth, Arlington, Southlake, Dalworthington Gardens, Grand Prairie and Irving, police said. He also weaved through traffic and drove on highway shoulders, according to police. Although Storey, 23, allegedly broke traffic laws, evaded police helicopters and endangered himself and other drivers in multiple cities, only one municipality issued an arrest warrant for Storey. The warrant came from Dalworthington Gardens, where Storey pulled abreast of a motorcycle officer on Spur 303. The officer motioned for Storey to pull over and stop, but Storey ignored the order, swerved toward the officer and sped way. Dalworthington Gardens issued a felony evading arrest warrant for Storey. Officers found Storey in a house located in Benbrook, Texas, and arrested him without further incident. The arrest occurred late Thursday afternoon. Ironically, the same Dalworthington Gardens officer who motioned for Storey to pull over executed the arrest warrant. Police said Storey has an extensive record of traffic violations and other offenses. The Dalworthington Gardens police said Storey has a prior conviction for evading arrest, which means he now faces a third-degree felony charge. The chase started at about 10 a.m. in Fort Worth before traveling along Highway 114 in Southlake, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and southbound Highway 360 into Arlington. It lasted for at least an hour, according to an NBC 5 report. A police helicopter and the NBC 5 Chopper 5 followed Storey to an Arlington home. NBC 5 showed video of Storey at his mother's house and traveling in a pickup truck to visit a friend, according to the report. Still, other police departments declined to arrest Storey. "Well, we talked with the young man," an Arlington police officer said. "He was frightened. He honestly told us he had no idea the police were behind him." Lt. Dean Sullivan, of the Fort Worth Police Department, said officers in that jurisdiction did not witness or gauge the speed of Storey. Other cities also declined to issue a warrant because officers on the ground did not engage in the pursuit. Storey's family members told NBC 5 that the suspect suffers from diabetes and could act irrationally if his insulin levels are not stable. They attributed Thursday's chase to an insulin imbalance. | |
