FAILURE TO YIELD

Woman faces charge in fatal cycle crash

A 23-year-old Henderson woman who was involved in a fatal vehicle crash in Henderson on March 22 is facing a charge in Henderson Municipal Court in the accident.

Melissa Chernoff is facing one count of failure to yield to the right of way. She had pulled out in front of an 18-year-old Henderson man on Equestrian Drive at Roan Road, according to municipal court documents.

Mario Pernett, who was driving a 2004 Kawasaki ZX6-RR motorcycle, slammed into the side of Chernoff's 2002 Toyota Corolla.

Henderson police had previously indicated that the initial investigation found Pernett appeared to have been at fault because he was speeding. A police report about the collision, however, says that Pernett was not speeding.

It's not much of a charge. Was this the accident where the kid was riding his friends bike with no helmet and no license?

I'm glad the Henderson PD finally got it right. I hope justice is served, but as Rone stated it isn't much of a charge. That's the same infraction the person who pulled out in front of me last year was given.

we could always show up with a list of all the victims for the year due to careless driving along with the after mass of the motor cycles sit them in front of the court house and let the victims families make there statements.

Along with advertising the look twice save a life program for moto riders.

I know its been talked about alot....but it seems to be a never ending battle for justice as is everything else i guess.

but thats just my thoughts on it. i really feel if we all pulled together and used all our resources we could really make some hard hitting progress as far as making sure that not only when poeple take the driving courses that being aware of moto being around and what happens when your not is taught,
but for all the dealer ships who sell moto's to make it a point to not just sell it because some young kid or adult wants a new toy, but to make sure they know the proper gear for that toy verses where to go for it and are given the proper resources to contact as far as getting certified to ride that toy.

ok i'm done.
