Most of Buells have been turds compared to the jap bikes, but maybe they are finally getting it right with this next evolution. http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes/spo...125r/index.asp and review http://motorcycles.about.com/od/newm..._1125R_Rev.htm What do you think? I have always thought they had cool ideas and with the right power train would be nice bikes. Now they finally have a better power train though not quite up to jap bike performance, or Italian for that matter, its light years ahead of previous models. |

I do not think it would be cost effective for Harley to put too much into these bikes.. As stated above, the Other manu are light years ahead... But they are fairly young to the sportbike world... To be honest i would not choose a buell over any of the big foru from Japan, nor would I accept one of them over the euro bikes.. Money better spent elsewhere... But they are def getting better.

I was under the impression that Harley had (in the last couple of years) purchased a controlling interest in Buell, but left Eric in charge. Am I wrong?

I've had two "X" bikes for the past 3 years. Not a bit of trouble. The tube framers were not the bomb. Eric has really turned the company around and is having a ball with it. As for your opinon...hey nobody held a gun to my head to buy one. For the money/looks/sound I like it. The best part is you can't swing a dead cat and hit 10 of them like you can the ricers. As for the company Harley owns 51% but they left Eric in charge. He's made a ton of money off Harley as they have purchased the company back from him. (Very wise move for him) Imagine people paying you to RD for them...that's what Hardley Ever Runs is doing. A lot of the new/improved stuff that Harley is coming out with, Buell tested and perfected. In regards to the new rotax...size of the powerplant isn't everything and especially if the bike handles like a lawn mower. I've got mine on order and "hopefully" it will be here in time for a Christmas present to myself...

I know the size of the powerplant isnt everthing, but being able to keep up in the straights is kinda important and with the new engine hopefully they will. If they can, I would really consider getting it. Though it still runs in the 1k class and puts down hp like a 600. |

Just saw this thread, since I just picked up a Buell, I would like to agree with Pat. The fact that Buell stores the fuel in the frame and the oil in the swingarm is amazing and greatly lightens the bike. I agree with Pat that the motor is the weak point, but also the strong point. The Buell will not Dyno like a Jap-4, but you should look at the DynoMap. What Buell DOES is make linear power and tons of torque right off the line. If you want to be the fastest running blazing top speeds, the Buell is not for you. If you want to rip it up right off the line and have instant power when you twist the wick, the Buell is pretty amazing.... So far, there are more things that impress me than I would have guessed. The bike (so far) is laid out in a very logical manner. Hard to explain, but essentially I am impressed with the engineering. It doesn't always work, but a lot of thought when into the design. |
