BITCHES... A friend of the family had a 1st gen Ninja and I was hooked from then... I was just a lad when he pulled into the driveway.. When I was old enough (23), I purchased a 97 Yamaha FZR 600 (Still have it) for $3000 with 3k miles... Everything seems faster when you can feel the wind and power more... | Guest Posts: n/a | Well, as far back as I can remember my father has always had a bike. I used to ride when I was so small I had to ride on the gas tank. When I was about 11 or 12 my dad bought me my first dirt bike, I Honda Trail 90. All my friends had new ATC's and we used to go out riding in the desert around my house.(craig and walnut area). So I turned 16 and got my license and 2 days later went back and got my motorcycle endorcement. My first street bike was a Yamaha 125 Endouro. Now if I go longer than a few months without a bike I feel lost. |

well, in europe a lots of kids use "moped"as soon as they're 14, to go to school, hang out with friend or anything, when I was a kid a lots of guys I knew had a peugeot 103 sp, it's a 50 cc but we could get those thing going over 60 mph ! ![]() my mom had a MZ 125 I don't remember well, except it was probably as big as my zzr 1200 my dad used to go to work on a Solex ![]() which I got when I turned 14, I completly destroyed it , trying to go off road with it, making holes in the exaust so it'll sound better, and all kind of crap.... them, my parents being broke, I got a 1963 moped from an uncle it was snail slow.. the look was really retro but cool.... well it didn't last too long in my hand.. when I turned 16 , ( I started working at 15 in a bakery) I bought a Honda MT8. which is a dual purpose 80cc. it had a kit 115 on it, that was fun. but I didn't have a MC driving license (very expensive in france) but I never got caught.. I was riding everywhere in every weather, from 10 inches of snow to down in the river , it was a blast, but my piston seized and I couldn't afford to fix it... ![]() then I didn't ride for a long time, went to the military, came back to france and the in the US. I wanted a bike but my (first) wife always found excuses for me not to get one, and the day she went back to France I went straight to the dealer and bought a V-Strom 650 !! I like it, but was a little to heavy for me to go off road with, and i end up tradint it in and buying the ZZR 1200. and I love it !!

Two things have always fascinated me since I was a young child... motorcycles & airplanes I used to see guys on bikes when I was maybe 5 or 6 years old and I always wanted to ride one. But they were all big bikes and I was just a kid. Then one saturday in 1978 (I was 8 years old) I was flipping thru the channels on tv, we had 12 channels at the time... and there was a motorcycle race on ABC Wide World of Sports, so of course I sat and watched in amazement. And then it happened... a Honda commercial.. with kids riding small dirtbikes.. oh my god I must have one... I jumped out of my chair and ran down the hall and freaked my mom out asking for a bike over and over and trying to get her to come see the commercial before it was over. She wasnt interested. But I was determined. I begged for 2 years. Everyday I asked for a bike. Everytime I saw a bike, I would point and say look that guy has a bike, I want one too! Constantly. I never quit. And when I was told "dont ask again" I just asked again anyway. So for my 10th birthday, she relented and spent $125 for a used 1977 Honda XR75. I didnt care that it was used and kind of beat up because it was mine. And I rode and abused it and it never complained at all for 2 years. I took it to motocross tracks and must have rode 5000 miles on trails all around my house. I rode it everyday. I mowed yards around the neighborhood for gas money. Then I got into motocross racing and saved up my lawn mowing money and my mom 'helped' me buy a Kawasaki KX80 that I raced for two years. But the bike that got me interested in sport bikes was the Honda Interceptor. And Freddie Spencer. I'd watch him dominate the race circuits and then I'd see Interceptors on the street and really wanted one, but was just a teenager and didnt have much money so it never happened. Eventually my interest faded. Later on, I joined the Army and had a couple more dirtbikes. And then this videogame came out called RoadRash. I'm sure you've seen or heard about it. That got me interested in sportbikes again. And then a new version of RoadRash came out for a new videogame system called the 3DO. It had a video with all the guys on sportbikes doing donuts and running from the cops and tearing up the hiways at highspeeds. That set the hook. I got out of the Army a couple years later and bought a Ninja 750 (and some dirtbikes and some cruisers) and have pretty much owned some sort of bike ever since. But the Interceptor is still my favorite and probably always will be *EDIT* I found the 3 videos from the RoadRash videogame on youtube I just cut n pasted the above from a thread about this subject that was started last january: http://www.scsportbikes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6094 Some good posts in that thread

When I was a kid we lived on the farm in the middle of no where. We had one tv channel and it was black and white tv so I spent all my time out hunting and goofing off. I had this little 5hp mini bike that had an "indian" decal on the gas tank. Strap on a 22 rifle and off I went. My nearest neighbor lived like 2 miles away. So i had plenty of farm land to roam and tear up. My dad had an 1972 TS 185 ( I still remember it brand new) that I used to dream of riding. My dads thoughs on it was when you can pick it up when it falls over you can ride it all you want. It did not take long for me to figure out how to pick it up. I was really of to the races then. My dad got me a subscription to "dirt bike" and I spent every night going thru the pages wanting an "RM" or a "CR". I used to read all the tales of the Phantom Duck, and wore out the pages of reading about Roger Decoster, and Malcom Smith There was nothing I did not know about dirt bikes at that point. When I did get my first RM the world was my kingdom, and I abused it at will. I road every day, and was a terror to everyone I ran accross. I had the sherriffs chase me more than once. As I got older I started racing motorcross and I had a few good crashes. When I was out of high school I used to think the old V65 was the coolest thing around. That is when I discovered sportbikes up to that point If it did not have knob's ont he tires I was not interested. Now I'm digg'n both Every since I was a kid I have been riding, been in my blood forever.

***From a previous post*** Growing up as a kid in Columbus, OH, my dad exposed me to all things mechanical. Although I never attained his wrenching skills , I got a chance to check out some of the cool bikes (and cars) he would work on in his spare time. Dad also rode a BMW R60/5 like this:![]() Needless to say, I loved to ride on the back of that thing. I would always get a chance to ride mini bikes and dirt bikes in the country were my grandparents lived, but I never did anything consistent enough to get some solid skills. As a teen and even into adulthood, I learned the basics of riding a bike on the street and I would sneak rides on my friends' bikes every chance I got. This was fun at times, but it still wasn't the same as having my own bike. Fast forward to modern times...after parting ways with wife #1 in early 2001, I decided that I wanted to finally get the bike that I could never buy when I was married. I'd always wanted to get a bike, but when mentioned...they were "too dangerous". So, I took the MSF and promptly bought the F4 I still have today.

I was forbidden to ride motorcycles my whole life by my mother. She was terrified of them. I promised her that as long as she lived, I would never own a bike. When she passed away in 1998, I visited her grave and told her that I was going to start riding, but that I would alway remember how scared she was that I would die on one. I went out and got myself a used and thoroughly beaten ZX6R ex-track bike and ride the tires off of and got my moto endorsement. When I got tired of pushing the bike home a few times - I moved up to a GSXR 750 that was stolen from me after less than a year. I then moved too quickly into a GSXR1K that I totaled after about 6 months. The GSXR1K I have now was the replacement for my first 1K, and I can't see a time in my life that I won't own and ride a motorcycle.

For me it all started back in 87, me and a few friends went on Spring Break in Palm Springs. I saw every guy on a bike with a hot chic on the back and I said "Ok boys where coming back next year on motorcycles" but I never made it back and got into cars so the whole bike thing never pand out. Fast forward to 03 and I finally got a bike and been lovin it sense

| Quote: For me, well I'll try anything at least once or twice, so when a friend asked if I wanted to go for a ride I was fearless. It just got to the point that I was tired ridin on the back. Even sitting in traffic I'd envy the guy sitting on the bike next to me while I lounged in my car. Also, Ive always been one to try and hang with the boys. I do almost all my own mechanical labor and I work at a body shop doing repairs. I've always just sort of jumped right in, ready to learn. I rode around on my girl friend's quad to adjust to the hand and feet controls. My friend Rone mentioned this site and I lurked a bit trying to absorb. Then I finally took the MSF course with a buddy who felt like renewing his card. Two weeks later...I had an 06 sv650s. I didnt wanna new bike, but I couldn't pass up the deal I was offered. I told myself Id ride casually and slowly get used to it...only then my car took a dive and I suddenly found myself riding everyday. Even now I still ride the bike over the car. | |

As a kid, I always thought bikes were cool. My father was a General Contractor in Boston and one of his guy's had a Harley (Keep in mind, this is the late '70's, so the "sportbike" hadn't been invented yet). I asked him if he could wheelie it. He popped it up at one end of the street and rode it to the other end. I thought that was the coolest. Fast forward to the early '80's... I'm in grade school now. One of my teachers had a Honda "UJM". One day, he gave me a ride home from school. At that moment, I was hooked. I spent most of the '80's watching the emergence and development of the modern sportbike. I remember the Ninja and Interceptor ads on TV every weekend. By the late '80's, I was in HS and was looking forward to finally getting my license, like every other teenager. Difference was, I wanted a motorcycle license, not a car license. Well, the dad and stepmom (I lived with them) weren't having any of it. I'd get my license in the '86 Taurus. Almost every weekend, I'd go to one of the local bike dealers and sit on the bikes. I had an '80 Tercel SR5 and then an '87 LeBaron GTS Turbo, but never got that bike. I graduated in '91 and moved to Vegas in '92. When I got here, I ended up driving cars just because I needed something I could carry stuff in and couldn't afford 2 vehicles. I had a '69 Baja Bug and ended up wrecking it out at the lake. I sold the engine and trans and now had $1,000 in my pocket, plus $800 I had saved. I was living with my mother at the time, so my only bill was the $50/week i gave mom towards the utilities. I decided... now is the time. I really wanted a sportbike, but insurance was gonna cost 4 times what the bike would cost. I decided to get a dual-sport. Figured it would handle running into stuff and being dropped better than anything else, plus I could ride it in the dirt on the weekends. I ended up finding a '90 Honda NX250 in immaculate shape with only 3,000 miles on it for $2500. I borrowed $700 from mom and bought it. Rode it around the block a few times and took the license test. Passed on the first try. Ended up selling that bike with 18,000 miles on it for the same $2500 I paid for it. That's what I call re-sale value. At some point I ended up buying the first bike that ever made me go, "oooooooooo"... an '86 Interceptor 500. I ended up dropping a valve and aerating a piston. It's been a long journey since then. I've had at least a dozen bikes, 5 of which were '93-'95 ZX-7's (the last was a real 7R). Don't think I'll ever stop riding, although I have been thinking about moving from a sportbike to a sport/touring bike. Maybe a new Concours 14, since I'm such a Kawi nut.

Popping wheelies at 13 years old on my buddy's moped. I've been in love with the sound and speed of a rocket since I can remember. Got my first one just over a year ago (I could finally afford it). Now I'm pretty sure I'm stuck with it for life!

As far back as I can remember I was ALWAYS drawing dirtbikes, and wanted one so badly. My Mom would have nothing of it. One day when I was 11, I told my cousin I knew how to ride, so he let me try his Yami YZ80. I was wearing a spaghetti strap yellow shirt & shorts, no helmet. I didn't know how to ride JACK, wrecked, and the bike flew one direction and I landed in a ditch. Busted my jaw! Mom and Dad weren't too thrilled about that needless to say. Didn't stop me, but I had to wait a bit. I was 19, bought a used YZ80, and taught myself how to ride. I bought my first Harley in '00, second and third shortly thereafter. Met my current guy who drag races bikes, fell in love with that (& him!) , bought my first bike, a Busa, and race it now too. The rest is history. I wish I would've gotten into sportbikes in my 20's though. Oh well, better late than never, right? |

In 82 I lived in Santa Barbara and got my first vehicle, a 74 yamaha rd-250. I tought myself to ride, never heard of any kind of MSF type course and I had no friends that rode. I put on cafe bars and thought that was the coolest thing ever. Spent many a day riding to the beach to hang out, I was hooked on riding from the start. I moved back to vegas and picked up a 81 sr-250 which lasted a short time then on to a 91 fzr-600. That bike set me solid in sportbikes. 14 years on her (most troublefree, solid, dependable bike) till I got a 03 R1..then 04 gsxr 1k..and finally to the 07 R1 I have now.

Heh, I started riding a motorcycle so I could spend more time with a girl who also rides. I had wanted one previously but always told myself they were too dangerous. Nothing a little hormones couldn't fix. Most of y'all have seen my first motorcycle. She's a bit ragged at the moment, but I loves me my '00 R6. I am currently drooling over the '08 R6. I always thought that I'd move up to a full liter bike after this one, but I haven't really tapped all the potential of a 600cc yet. And '08 R6 is soooo fine.

Ever since I can remember my grandpa and my dad always had bikes in the garage. (not sportbikes of course) Course most of them didn't run. My mom was a biker babe back in the day. At the time they never talked about them or what kind they were to me, so I wish I knew. when I went on vacation to Minnesota in the 80s, most of my friends were guys and they would ride dirt bikes and 3 wheelers all over the vast land surrounding us. I wanted a 3 wheeler REALLY BAD at this point ! I was about 10 at the time. My Dad tried to surprise my sister and I and bought a couple but of course....they never ran (he was supposed to fix them) and my Dad eventually sold them after our family dog ate the foam seats off of them 5 years later. My Dad used to ride me around on the back of his motorcyle form time to time. Take me to my baby sitting job when I was 14 and so forth. I always thought these bikes were so big and heavy and that I would never ride one by my self so I never really thought about getting one like his. I remember my Dad getting into a bit of trouble with the law a couple of times. I thought it was funny. I used to go to palm springs in my late teens and saw all the girls on the back. I always thought.... I want to be that girl, not on the back but in the driver's seat !!! Now wouldn't that be even more interesting to the guys and stepping it up a level. So when I met a boyfriend in 96 he saw I had an interest and taught me on a 250 Ninja. Yep ! This was the spark that fed the fire. I sold it after a couple of years as I was working 2 jobs and was finishing up school. I met my husband, Josh in 2001 and he talked about getting one. He was never allowed as a kid or a teen to have one either....by his mother. Darn mothers !! I thought, what the heck, let's both get one. So we did. In 2004 I got a 2001 Honda CBR F4i, then recently sold that and got a 2007 Honda CBR 600 RR. Now I have a Quad AND a bike !!!

I got into riding in 2003 after a heartbreaking breakup. Figured since I has always wanted one it was a good time for it. I guess I figured it would distract me, or maybe kill me. At the time either was a decent deal to me. And I came close a couple of times. Ended up finding out that when your on a bike you really cant think about anything but riding unless you really do have a death wish. So riding ended up blocking out the heartbreak. Then I started to get better, and had to go faster and faster to outrun the memories. It took about a year to outrun her memories. This got me pretty good in a very short time I think. Found out I really enjoyed it too. God I miss riding, hopefully I get another bike this year. |
