I Ride: 2001 ZRX1200R, 2005 Hyosung GT650S Track Bike
By the way...thank you to all the scs member who didn't show up this morning. Atleast the fat boy (me) was there to fly the SCS colors.

The ride started out well, if not a bit cold. We made it up to Shoshone, to be greated by a charming, white trash waitress who probably should a telemarketer and not a food service professional. Let's just say, she was a bit rough around the edges.

We all fueled up and started to head out toward Death Valley! I took up sweep positon and fatgsxer took the lead. Unfortunetaley, about 1 mile outside of town, fatgsxer went down on a left hand turn. I guess too much speed, and cold dirty tires don't mix. I'll let him describe the event himself, I only caught the taile end of it.

I do have to say the CHP, and Inyo county sheriff were both pretty cool. I will post some pics ( hopefully tonight), but more likely when I get into L.A.

I leave at 7 am for a conference in L.A., so I'll post when I can. Back to work for me. I'll post mas later!

It's okay, it's more like I'm sorry you werent thinking or I guess it's just implies that. This is how this accident went for me and The things leading up to it. The whole day I was excited to go on a ride its has been a long time since I actually suited up to go for a good ride(august). So as we left sshoshone I was up front and soon after we started a sign came up for a corner and all I thought was a corner and that the pavement was fresh and nice. What I didnt consider was that my engine was hardly warm and that I just pull out of a gravel parking lot 2 minutes before and my shitty tires were defiantly cold and dirty.
As you can see I made a big mental laspe here because this is something I have always thought of and took care of every other time I riden; I guess thats how they happen.

So as I entered the corner about 85ish? it was first a little right dog leg then into a sharper left turn. When I got to the apex or maybe a little passed it, I leaned in some more cause it was needed to complete the corner b/c of my speed. If I had good warm tires this most likely would not of happened. But the tires couldnt hold it so I went down. So off me and my bike go, all it was like homer falling down the mountain ooh, eeeh, aww and then falling I stoped somewhere around 200ft my bike 250ft. I hopped right up and was uninjured. I only have two small buises and a twisted ankle.
I was wearing all the best gear I have which was icon boots and the timax pants(held up ok but any more than 30ft of pavement and it wouldnt be good. An astars leather jacket still 100%. And the hjc ac11 all strached up but did the job and didnt even get a headache.

So all in all I ruined my only ride but I came out at 100% healthy from a 70-75 mph crash so I really have nothing to complain about cause we all know how quickly it could get nasty. The only thing I worry about is if I get back on will I be able think before acting. This is my 2nd accident in two months and I rode the first 9k miles without error so I wonder if somethings causing them.
I thank Pat-vegasvideo, Will-kaw6r, trip, outkas, shwell and steel for helping me and my pieces home form 90 miles away.

Mike

No problem! It was definately cold & dirty tires that caused the crash (being is that we had just pulled out of that dirt lot). I was glad to see you get right up and walk it off ! Hope you get back to riding soon!

The damage in the bike is extensive so I’m really glad that you are intact… no broken bones. Because you had the right gear you are making the story here on the board. I’m really happy that you had the common sense in investing into protection. The only way you don’t fall on a bike is not riding one, that’s intrinsic to this kind of ‘sport’.

I will be planning another ride for late feb early March.. I have to check my calender and my health and I will post up the details.. Since I am planning this ride, it will have to be based on my health..

But I will keep everyone posted and this WILL be an open ride.. Mike I will see about making sure you make this next ride.. You just have to promise not to crash so hard next time..

I love to ride Death Valley, …is one of those trips that makes me think about buying a busa…. but this frigging cold drives me ‘krazy’, so much to wear that is cumbersome.

Not at all. It is actually a pretty easy ride. The crashes have all been rider error, note road conditions or a curse. In other words....don't be such a WUSSY!
