Went on a day trip with Scuba Views to the Sand Hollow State Park which is just north of St George. Pretty good diving spot, and it only took a couple of hours to get there.

Water was 81 degrees, so I only used my .5m wetsuit. Didnt need gloves or a hood. Water clarity was pretty murky next to the beach, but just a few yards out the conditions improved to 30 - 45 feet visibility.

The really cool thing about it, was not sinking up to my knees in muck while walking in the water with my gear on. The bottom was pretty solid feeling, hard-packed sand. A whole different experience than beach diving at Lake Mead.

We did two dives, but I only took my camera on the first dive. Saw alot of fish, mostly on the second dive. I managed to get face to face with a pretty big largemouth bass that was hanging out under a ledge. Also found an underwater obstacle course on the second dive, some big tubes to swim thru that someone had anchored inside of a small underwater canyon.

Another thing I really liked, was not having to go deeper than 30 feet. So that meant longer dive times :)

So a few pics of the surface...

Here is me saying, "Hell yeah, lets go diving..."

Few pics of the bottom, its quite a bit different than Lake Mead.

Lots of small fish in this one

Following a largemouth bass

A few pics of my girlfriend Michelle, a NAUI master diver.

A few pics of the plane. Water got a little murky there, had 7 divers stirring up the bottom.

If I were Jaws, this guy would be having such a bad day...

We got there pretty early, and were finished by 1pm. Just in time, because alot of other people started showing up. Some were divers, some were just families coming out to go swimming and have picnics. So we packed up and headed back to Vegas, stopping in Mesquite for a lunch buffet on the way home.

Since it takes me at least 45 minutes to get to Lake Mead so I can dive in cold water, with poor visibility, and have to wade thru muck up to my knees... I think I'd rather drive 2 hours to Sand Hollow instead.

And just to keep this motorcycle related... if you have dirtbikes or quads, it looked like a pretty good riding area just on the other side of the reservoir. Saw a few quads tearing up the sand.

I've tried a few different types and I like these split fins the best just because they dont aggravate my ankle injury that still bothers me from my bike wreck in Utah two years ago.

This place isnt near as silty/murky as any diving I've done in Lake Mead. Think I may go back next weekend and do a night dive there.
