When I was a little kid and visited California, I would always be so sad when I came back home to the hot, dry, and worst of all not-green desert. But over the years I've come to love Las Vegas and the desert and today was just proof why.

I went to Red Rock when I got out of my morning class. There was an energy in the air and you could feel the entire park was rejoicing with the gift of rain. So often we take the desert for granted, and we forget that it's teeming with almost as much life as a dense forest. All of the plants have become a lush green, and almost every single bush is flowering to celebrate the rain.

If you can get a chance to steal away some time I highly recommend you take a lap through the loop. It's 13 miles of flowers and wonderful scents. And the fact that it's raining gives you an excuse to slow down and enjoy every moment. As a sport bike club we're all often concerned with getting to places fast, and we don't take the time to breath and enjoy our surroundings.

So whether you're on a bike or in a cage, take some time to go out and enjoy nature. The desert isn't beautiful all of the time, but when it is, it's breathtaking. Don't miss out!

I loved Red Rock in the mornings. I used to live one mile away from work and commute on the bike 50 miles a day because I would hit up Red Rock first thing. At sunrise I would ride through looking for anything on the roads, then do two hot laps and head to work. It was wonderful.

Hell yeah I'm a tree hugger! What's not to hug about trees? They're amazing! They turn sunlight into energy, and without photosynthesis none of us would be here or have any food to eat (granted, we don't eat trees and I'm grouping trees in with other photosynthetic plants like corn.). They use up carbon dioxide and produce oxygen that we breath. They also make paper! And while they may be less photosynthetically efficient than algae, I'd rather look at a tree than a lump of algae.
