I have a question about oil. What kind of oil do you use? Where to get it and why? In my motorcycle I’ve been using Castrol R4 Synthetic but want to try something different… this is the only fully synthetic oil I find available locally.

(Also I’m looking for a place to buy Mobil1 MX4T since is the brand I use in my cage with excellent results.)

Josh is being a bad boy.
I have been using Motul 5100 with good results. Have also used the Mobil1 MX4T, purchased from Autozone on Trop and Eastern awhile back.

I believe you, I used regular Castrol (Car oil) in my older bike but she was cold blooded… this 636 gets hot in the summer really fast so was afraid to use regular oil, but… if I’m not able to get this Mobil MX4T (I’m gonna check Autozone and see if they still carry that oil in stock, ‘R6Owner’ ) I will try Mobil1 Synthetic 10-40. They say that the difference between car oil and bike oil is less that 1% , time to test that theory.

I read one time about that but I can’t find literature anymore online. One of the difference between motorcycle oil and car oils are the friction modifiers (wear additives and cleaning agents). Besides that oil is oil.

Is Mobil1 for Motorcycle or for car the one you’re using? In the case is the motorcycle one; where do you get it?

SuperTech… let me see….hmmm…. YES, you are the only one!...Guy! We’re here debating about oils and you say to be using something sold at Wal-Mart that looks like oil but I’m afraid to use in my mother-in-law Saturn!!!... ... Kidding … now seriously are you using regular car oil or motorcycle oil made by SuperTech?

Mobil 1 MX4T for the Moto..

Bike specific.. Nothing less.. It is for the engine and the clutch as well, so all the unecessary additives are avoided by using moto specific oils...

I have heard of alot of people using regular car oil. They say it works great...and then all of the suddon, the gears slip, and the clutch slips... Its not like we are talking about $400 in supplies here. For every 2 thousand or so miles...spend the extra $4 and get the good stuff....why risk it?

The cost adds up, but it is nowhere near the cost of a new clutch... Shop around and you can save a few pennies on the oil.. the Internet is your friend..

I spend about the same amount on my bikes as I do my cars.. I use synth in those as well, I just save money by doing it myself.. And I enjoy the quality time wit my beotches.. They don't talk back..

So for twenty bucks more +/- total, you have some piece of mind when you start it up and ride out...

Oh yeah.. another off-topic remark.... I go get my BLUE Cripple cards to hang in my car tomorrow, gotta love that ish.. but i'm finally going to the doctor after breaking a rib, knee and stabbing a hole in my foot with a peg... they figure since they gotta look at my other knee, they might as well tell me if the other stuff i never went to the doctor for is healed correctly.

I just got Mobil MX4T Synthetic oil, chances I’ll replace it next weekend. Price was ok at $9.00 a quart from an auto store. I need to try this brand because I only read good thing about their synthetic oils.

Actually I started looking in car stores because you suggested me so; I was thinking that car stores didn’t carry motorcycle stuff so I wasn’t looking there at all. Checker auto parts (Charleston and Maryland parkway). I asked the guy and he told me that they always carry the product, so I was surprised. Thanks!

Good choice Rick..

Mad951 do you use that stuff in your street bike. That weight is great for track use (extra ponies because of weight), but is it a good idea for a streetbike.

I've used Mobil 1, 15W-50. Haven't had any problems yet. Used it for 30k in my R1 and so far in the Gixx 750.

Just make sure that on the back seal it doesn't say "Energy Conserving" on whatever you use.

To qualify as "Energy Conserving" it must have friction modifiers. Good for Car engines, Bad for bike clutch plates.

I like Baby oil... It is clear, so when it is not clear anymore I know it is time to change it. and it is good for my skin, so I do not have to wash my hands when I am done....

I couldn't resist..

Now get back on topic....

Mobil 1 MX4TI is the only thing I use in the Busa.. When I had the 750, I would use any of the Moto specific Synthetics from the Moto shops, fpr everyday riding, MX4TI for the track though.

I think sometime depends on what kind of ride you do. hard riding , track or just mellow kind of ride.
I have used Motul 5100 semi-synthetic 15w50 on my bikes and never had slipped clutches or any other problems i have heard on some other oils.

Since i do street/cyns and track i dont need full Synthetic.
