I am curiouse about lowering bikes. My girlfriend is 5'5 and I am only 5'6. The problem that we run into is not so much the seat height, but the actuall width of the seat. For example, I love the new GSXR-1000, because of how thin the seat is, making it much easier to plant my feet on the ground. My girlfriend in a big fan of the CBR-600rr, but again, the serat is so wide, so cannot touch her feet. The gsxr-1000 on the other hand, is great for her. She wants a 600, but the only one we have found that fits, is the GSXR-600. How dangerouse would it be for her to lower the cbr???

Lowering bikes isn't dangerous if you put thought into the mod as with any other mod.. Corner clearance will be affected drastically, and the handling will be much different, but can be adjusted (to an extent) to match the lowering characteristics. If you/she will primarily be doing street riding on the sane side you/she will be fine. But lowering a bike can be done in 1.5+/- hours so going back and forth is not at all impossible (If you decide to do trackdays and/or really aggressive riding)... I owned an '01 R6 (I loved that bike), and at first I did not feel extremely comfy on it, so I lowered it and it was great for street riding, but once I started doing trackdays (TDs) I had to go back to stock, and once I did that I never went back..

The biggest difference is the handling is much slower and takes a little more muscle to get the bike over.. But once you get used to it, you hardly notice..

Oh yeah, seats can be custom padded or even shaved to accomodate.

I am 5ft 4 and touch just fine on my F4i, I would shave the seat before lowering if it were mine??

BTW I think there is about an inch diff. in the F4i and CBR600RR (the ladder being the taller)

I Ride: 2001 ZRX1200R, 2005 Hyosung GT650S Track Bike
The f4i's are very comfy, yet managable bikes.* I did my first track day on Dave's (sinfulf4i) with no problem.* BTW The first time I had ever rode Dave's bike, was on Lap 1 of the track day.* I am sure you will be happy!

I Ride: '06 600RR TOTALLED '08 1000RR Black/Yellow
Yeah I got a 600RR, and Im also a shorty (in the 5'6 club). Before I bought my '06 600RR I was playing with the idea of lowering it. But after I started riding it, I realized that its not too tall even with the wide seat. You only have your feet down for a short period of time while riding. At the lights Im One flat foot down, or both feet touchin but reaching for it. But normally one firm foot down works well for me. Im sure lowering bikes can be done safely, but I didn't wanna monkey around with it performance.

I'm also 5'6. When I got my bike I lowered it an inch and then after about a month of riding it I raised it back up. Once she gets the riding part figured out the height seems to not make much of a difference unless you cant touch at all. When I was looking for a bike to buy I ran across a suzuki 600 that was lowered with I think he said a harris product. I took some pics of the bike but I'm not sure if you will get anything out of it. http://www.clanor.com/cycles/gsxr/ I think you can see the lowering in the 3rd pic.
