Does anyone knows if there is such a thing as different kinds of tire compound on Pilot Power?

I was told Pilot Power comes on soft or medium compound, if Yes how could you tell?

The Pilot Powers now come in two flavors...the tried-and-true original version:

Original Pilot Powers

And the new, softer Pilot Power 2CT (these are the ones that Colin Edwards tested on his M1):

Pilot Power 2CT

I can only imagine how much those Pilot Powers are gonna cost!

Well, here's the thing, and I keep hearing people get all excited over the new 2CT version: They aren't scheduled to be available in the United States in the foreseeable future. I called Michelen and, according to them, it's a Euro only deal. And, who needs 'em? The standard Pilot Power is absolutely awesome. Try a cold track, that just got rained and snowed on, and a tire that doesn't slip at max lean (kickstand dragging), while said track is cold and still soaking wet, and can be had for $219.00 for a set installed. What else do you need?

Just be aware that the 2CT compound is a European tire, made for the roads over there. They use different asphalt in Europe then in the US. What works there will not always work here. I would imagine that Michelin North America will eventually provide us with the same technology multi compound tire, to our spec. This will not keep people from importing the 2CT & I know of more then half a dozen speed shops already doing so.

There is a Pilot Power & a Pilot Power OEM compound (at least for Yamaha). The PP OEM is a bit harder & longer lasting with the same profile characteristics, but a bit cheaper for some reason.

The Power Race is self explanatory. It comes in med-dual, med/soft-dual, & soft-single.
The Pilot Sport tire is harder then the Power offering better tire wear for commuting.

It's at Honda/Kawasaki of Las Vegas on North Rancho. It's a sale that they have from time to time. I just called and verified that it's still going on. That's $219.99 installed on your bike, plus $2.00 per tire disposal fee plus tax. This is for a set with a 180 rear. For a set with the 190 rear, it's $235.00 installed. Don't bother taking your tires off or anything. They do it all.

hmmm hate to give money to the Honda boys but for this deal I might hafta. Sounds really good that I don't have to beg and plead for a front stand to pull my front wheel.

Thanks for the info and the heads up in here

Im coming from Power Race compound and jump into something really hard compound will be a big difference. However In Vegas weather Power Race will melt like butter.

You're a pinhead. You know you can just ask me to borrow my front stand. I'm sure it'll work on your year bike. Not that I'll say yes or anything, but you could ask me. LOL

For the Cycle Gear install, do you have to take your wheels off?

Yes, you have to carry your rims in and out for that. I'm sure they could do the work for you, but it won't be for the $200 price everyone is quoting.

Nope. I bought them for $170+tax installed on the bike. However i took just the wheels in.
I want to make sure my chain is properly adjusted, shaft and wheel bearings nicely greased.

But its up to you.
