Ok, so i bought this used gixxer. The suspension is all out of whack. I'm thinking the previous owner was a stunter and has it set up for such. Either that or it just doesn't handle worth a sh!t. The first issue I have to take of is that the fork seals need replacing. I have done this myself once before, about 20 years ago on a RD 250. From what I remember it was a royal pain in the arse and I don't think I want to attempt it again. *any ideas on a reputable shop? After I get that taken care of I need to get the suspension tuned. This is probably beyond my skills too. If their is any one that would be willing to spend a few minutes with me and show me the basics I think I would be fine then. I have read several threads on the subject but it just doesn't seem to click for me.

hey W. im having the fork seals problem also. im been pricing this kind of job to be done on my bike and it runs from $230-$360 thats why iv been waiting a little bid to get the money together and have it done. The most expensive was the dealer at Craig and Lamb those guys are way to pricy I heard about a shop thats pretty good at it and suposed to be pretty good at tunning the susp. I dont want to put their name down cause i havent work with them but if you want the name pm me and ill send you the name.

Here's what I found out .... cycle shop aprox 270$, they don't do it in house, and it could be 2-3 days they have the bike. Racers edge, aprox 300$, in house, and drop it in the morning and pickup same day. I will check out a couple other places too. On a side note: I bought tires from racers edge before and they were a little on the high side, BUT when they did the tires, the guy told me that I was missing the bolt that held down the gas tank and they went ahead and put one on while they were at it. +1 for the extra effort from racers edge, a small but nice thing to do.

A old friend of mine who is an excellent M/C mechanic just came back into the picture. I am going to have him do my fork seals here shortly. If anyone else needs a good mechanic PM me and I will be happy to give you his # so you can contact him and see what he can do for you.

My bike is riding great. After you tinkered with the suspension, it rode like a whole different bike. Thank you Suspension Guru (a.k.a- egami)! ***(cheesy testimonial)*** |

i can't believe these shops charge that much for fork seals. i just replaced some seals on my bro's R6 and both seals and fork oil was about $40. took about an hour for both. shops are ridiculously overpriced which is why i do my own work ... fuck that!
